And it took up all my gun funds and WASN'T a gun. Took the step to shore up our resources and bought our intial investment in 3 months worth of food for stowing away should we ever need it. Feels good to have 90 days worth of food sitting stored away. Almost as good as having a new gun ;).
We went with the Wise Foods (https://www.wisefoodstorage.com/store/index.php) and found a local guy who stocked them, got a better deal than what they advertise online. I am pretty excited. It feels good to have that buffer. I was really pleased with the food (they let us sample a few of the offerings) and it tastes better than an MRE. Looked up the MRE route, but I commonly see that the big issue with that is if it is relied upon as a sole food source, it can cause some serious impacting and constipation.
Just had to brag a bit. I feel a little ridiculous about how excited I am about it. I really hope that 20 years from now when I look in the closet, I'll laugh my butt off about when I see it stacked in a corner about how paranoid I could be as a young'un.

I've been thinking about doing that, but I hope you will be able to laugh about it in the future.

Not funny really but we had a period where we had to go to several preparedness classes for earthquakes, or other disasters here at work as a citizen rescue type group. We had to prepare little packs with like a hard hat and gloves, flashlight, dust mask, etc. We were asked to go home and add items we thought would be beneficial. I of course brought the subject up at the dinner table. My two sons each approached after dinner with 2 boxes each of 45 ACP Gold Dot.
I asked the theory behind that, and they said they are like master keys, just find a survivalist and take what you need.
I of course shared this at the next class, the instructor also a Sgt here was NOT impressed. I did leave the ammo in the pack though, it's still there to this day. One never knows.

Thanks for sharing. I just posted this relevant Dilbert cartoon on another thread:

One of the number one items to consider in addition to food, water, medical supplies and bullets is.... toilet paper! There just ain't no real substitute for TP, and it does have a good shelf life. Seems I remember a "scare" that was started in the 70's that the TP makers were going on strike and a huge rush on the stores ensued. Turned out to be a false alarm, and within a week or so it cooled down...just imagine if you had to go without TP for even a couple of days. Yep, there are certainly other ways to take care of the "paper work", but none quite as comfortable and sanitary as good old TP!
I figure that a roll of TP should be worth a couple of loaves of bread or a pound of dried rice or beans in a meltdown scenerio.:D

I've started to mention that several times... if I were trying to accumulate stuff for when the $#!+ hits the fan... and storing it in those 40ft shipping containers, I would have at least one full of toilet paper.

Everyone has thier own ideas about an "end of the world" stash.
Mine is a Bianchi IIIA vest, Mossberg 500 12 guage, Sig Sauer P239/357 and 800 rounds of Federal Tactical Bonded HPs.
But that's just me...

It is a shame it has gotten to the point where so many of us are thinking of survival due to an economic and/or political disaster. [Awkward wording but you know what I mean.]

Yep! It's probably a little late to start thinking about it because the people with real money (for example the Rothchilds and other wealthy banking interests going back decades) have already cornered much of the future. Here in our own country, reasonably well heeled survivalists have filled in the middle ground.
So, I suspect the best thing we can do is try to keep the country together without too much hate, without too much "gotta do it my way", and see if we can make it through the foreseeable future.
Just my three cents, adjusted for inflation. I am NOT political nor am I interested in starting an argument. But, the folks who think we can just turn on a dime, dump everything developed over the years since WWII and not crash the vehicle . . . well, based on the historical record of the 1930's depression, that will make things much worse for most of us in the near term . . . and maybe for the next generation or two who will wonder how people ever managed to live so well in the past.
By the way, I would love to be very wrong about this.

You know what Bawanna, after your family vacation where everyone enjoyed the range, the shotgun wedding pictures, and now this statement, I want to live beside you. If nothing bad happens it will just be really cool and if something bad does happen it would be really good too. No down side to being your neighbor unless the neighbor happened to be a left leaning liberial. And in that case if something bad happens you can refer any bad guys to the neighbors house because liberials are always giving things away (except what they give away usually belongs to someone else.)
Oh boy, I don't need to get off on a rant.:31:

I'm on an unnamed search and rescue team. We have backpacks full of equipment including an EMT bag.
I asked the instructor about carry of weapons to protect against armed looters. Was told technically you’re not suppose to carry.
But nobody’s going to check. And you can be sure some of us are.
I've got the food, water, ammo, TP, and other Necessities to last for a couple weeks. Whether it's tornado, nuclear, or Financial, I want to make it thru.
Am I paranoid?..... I could care less. Food doesn't devalue. (anyone watch the stock market lately?)

We have always been stockpilers of food and paper goods. Always a 90 day supply tho the food may not always be what we will want. It's not a planned 90 day survival stock, just our practice.

Well come on over yqtszhj, I'll help unload the truck and have refreshments on hand. The neighbors house is much nicer than mine, you'll like it.
I'm sure we'll be good friends unless your dog does a job in my yard, then we'll still be good friends but your dog will be on my bad list. But maybe not, a dogs' gotta do what a dogs gotta do you know.
We do have a few falling over left leaning liberals in the neighborhood, I know who they are and they know who I am. One even proudly posted a sign for that poser that lives in the White House. Tree hugger for sure too I think.
You'll like it up here. No worry on the libs, I got them all pegged and under control.

Well Bawanna, if you don't get to have fun with the libturds, can you at least use them for moving target practice?

It's like the old working ants and fiddling grasshopper fable, though these days, the ants work all Summer getting ready for Winter, then the government takes the ants "bounty" and distributes it to the idle-all-Summer-long-fiddling-and having-fun crowd, whose "RIGHTS" now include enslaving the working class to feed their sorry butts.
