Evening Folks

I am now the proud owner of an early version K9. Carbon Steel version, serial number AExxxx. My question is which is a better coating for my pistol. Cerakote has some great qualities...as does chrome. I just want to ensure my ccw does not rust.

If any one has some experience with either I would appreciate the advice.

Thanks.

I've tried a variety of finishes over the years and have had the best success with hard chrome. I'd recommend Metaloy Industries, Inc., 3430 Hwy 143 | Berryville, AR 72616. www.originalmetaloy.com

Both will serve the purpose that you outlined. A well done chrome job should enhance the value of your pistol and increase your pride of ownership.

The chrome finish is likely to be higher in price.

Semi off topic
The EXO Failzero looks interesting to me.
It's self lubricating!
Don't think they do individuals guns anymore though?

Thinking about a Glock Talo EXO 40.

K-kote does it for me....but i've had two indestructable pistols in hard chrome. One a satin hc python. Other was a ruger 22auto

Hard Chrome is good, electroless nickle is better, and Robar's NP3 Plus is best!!!

Old school bumper chrome. Nice. Just warms my little black heart to see a throwback to the classics. I had a Springfield 1911 way back in the day that I bumper chromed (after I smithed it just right), I wish I still had that one. Never a problem one out of it. Having said that, there are some amazing treatments out there these days that look good too, I've just been out of the refinishing loop too long to know much about them right now.

i got my carbon steel slide K9 Cerakoted recently by local gunsmith, and I have mixed feeling about it.

It look great. And its holding up to everyday carry in leather holster great so far. But its bit too shinny(Black) in my eye, and also makes it lettle slipply to pull slide if its raining(I have outside range).
But it does look heck of alot better then what it was. And it was cheap to get it done($100). I think, however, I was hoping for sort of Glock Tennifer sort of color, and feel, and Cerakote just isnt that...

If I was to do it again, I'd either go with electroless nickle or Hard Chrome. But if I had my way, I'd get all my guns coated with Fail Zero...

When I faced this issue I went with Hard Chrome [when Tech-Plate was doing that: very happy with their work. Too bad they can't do it for the immediate future. :(]

Here is hard chrome: polished sides and matte top, with hard chrome control parts.
