Hi Guys,

Recovering from surgery I had Tuesday to remove my prostate. Recovery is going slower than I had figured on but it is steady and progressing. Feeling well enough to climb the stairs to get to my computer and to do some browsing. Some interesting post to comment on but am still getting tired rather fast and not yet able to spend all the time online that I'd like to spend.

Take care,
Bill K.

Take it slow and easy Bill. Always takes longer than you'd like but don't want to rush things.

I didn't know you could have a prostrate removed, I better go to surgery .com and see what else I can do without myself.

Maybe get you a recliner up close to the computer. This kahrtalk is good therapy sometimes. I know it was a good thing when I had my something took out. Up front, Gall Bladder? I think. Nothing serious but slow moving for a week or so.

We're there for ya if you need anything........................

that, did they do robotic surgery or cut you from crotch to bellie button. Mine was the full meal deal back then, and a year later the cancer came back and 7 weeks of radiation seems to now have it in remission. so far so good, now if I could just be able to ride to the fokking dairy queen on my Harley to get a milkshake without dumping my bike all over the damn highway, I would be alot more happier. You will be OK take it slowly, that is major major sh-t my friend.

When I was in surgery I had asked my doctor if he could add a couple more inches but he said insurance would not cover "rampectomy".

Get well soon, and good luck with your recovery.
Last fall I found out I had prostate cancer and chose to go a different route and had it nuked with very few problems. Using this treatment calypsomedical.com
Last PSA test 1.7 down from 5.7

i have a feeling ur older than dirt p;opeye and tha tis why the nuke thing was probably the best for you. My oldest brother also went that rout 9years ago and his PSA has been for year under 1.
los of advancementr since I had the radical surgery 10 years ago, but I was only 53 and at the time they recommended complete removalover nuking or just radiation. Today with the robitic surgery one is on his way home the next day with minor incisions and they say it is far safer than the intrusive surgery that I had back then, certaily alot less blood loss to. Catch prostrate cancer earlier enough andu will out live it, catch it to late and lioke mose all ouither cancers u will die from it but yoiu will love a long time with it before u cash in.

It is heridiatry they tell me. My two uncles had it, my dad had it,, I had it, my brother had it my middle brother has been spared.

Thanks guys for the kind words and well wishes.

Not being nearly as macho as jocko [Hmmm... Macho Jocko, kinda has a nice ring to it. :)] I opted for robotic surgery vs. open surgery. Was actually diagnosed 3+ years ago but because of favorable numbers was, until recently, able to take the path of "active surveillance".

Thursday will be significant. This once proud former Marine Corps Sgt. gets exchange his catheter for diapers and pads :( (only for a short while I hope).

See ya...

macho to it, back when I had it that was the only surgery, now this robotic is the way to go, if one meets the standards and evidentle3y your gleason score was in the right numbers. Glad to see your back. I had to wear a catheter for about 2 weeks bu they tell me the robotic people don't wear um long. I look down at my gut and I feel like I had a cesearian, but heh, I am good togo, have been for 9 years, the cancer came back on me a year later and then 7 weeks of radiation and since then have been fine, I will probably die on my bike before this sh-t gets me. take care, don't rush it, good things come to those who wait, besides that , now you can read my dribble every day and that will make u wantto mend really faster soyou can get the hell outta dopdge!!!

caio ol friend.

fokk I thought they took all marines prostrates out before they went into service, oh thats right, it your balls they take out:D:D

Lots of ways to go today when you have prosate cancer that were not available only a few years back. As mentioned age has a lot to do with what options one might want to go with. I chose the type of radiation I did because it was like a smart bomb (GPS for the body) and only radiated the area that needed to be radiated and not other organs.
As some of you know I still ride a motorcycle and the surgery could have been a problem with incontinence when riding. From the riders I've talked to that have had the surgery it's a very real problem. The bottom line with something like Prostate Cancer is there is no one cure that is best for all. Age and your over all health, and your life style has to be taken into account. You and you only have to be 100% comfortable with what path you are going with. I took my time and was able to talk to alot of men who went thought it and chose the treatment that was best for me. The important thing is that there is absolutely no reason for a man to die of prostate cancer today. There are just so many good options to go with.

confoprmal bgeam radiation done on my prostarte area. It is very similar to the smart bomb, actualy it just radiates that one area. Ihad it done after the radical prostarte surgery and was clean for a year, then it came back and Ihad the conformal beam (smart bomb). I opted for the surgery back then per my docs feelings to as the intent was surgery is no guarantee as u well kow and as I well found out, but witght h surgery one stillhas the option of radiation if surgery does not get it all. you cant do radiation and then surgery. . I worried also about continuance but it was never one issues, not one time. I tide damn near 24/7 and the only time I pee my pant sis when I see some topless blonde on the back of a honda:D:D

As far as surgery it does seem that most guys are opting for the robotic. In my research on radiation treatment I seem to remember about 4-5 different ways to go. Also, I'd probably have qualified for two different "trial" treatments. One that does freezing and a second that does heating. Both are out patient treatments but don't yet have long term results stats. Some folks get by with holistic treatment. Like to see a simple preventive regimen that would prevent the cancer in the first place.

Oh well, life goes on (or doesn't) and that's just the way it is...

Keep the faith,
Bill K.

Bill, with all the new advances in the medical fields I would not be suprised if that became a reality in certain types of cancer in a few years. Who knows maybe in a few years there will be a pill for men and women to take so we don't get prostate or breast cancer.
One of my options because I caught it so early was actually do nothing. Now they figure I'll die of somethhing else before the prostate cancer even if it were to come back. Shoot give me another twenty years and all I'll be looking for is some nurse to change my sh8ty pants and wipe the drool of my chin.:)

But for now lets ride and shoot'm if we got'm http://harleytechtalk.org/htt/Smileys/classic/bike.gif....:33:

I was told that to, but u kinow this is also a guess by the doctors who don'thave the cancer in their body. I choose not to gamble foronce it gets out, ur done or at least on borrowed time. My dad had it at age 73 sand the doctors toldus that wouldnot be the thing that ends myt dads life kand he died at age 83 of just being worn out. Its a crap shoot but I choosenot to roll the dice.

heh WTf, we 3 osters ar ehere writing about it, so Imo WE MADE THE RIGHT CHOICES..

They told my dad much the same thing, the prostrate cancer was a slow variety and he'd outlive it. He didn't, had it in alot of other places too.

I'll go out on a very wispy limb right here and tell you I believe the cure is already available. Just too much money for drug companies and research facilities to be made without the cure so it's bought and kept under wraps.

Just like Chevy suburbans that get 75 miles to the gallon, the technology is there. You think the oil companies are gonna play along with that.

I'm glad you guys are still here to chat with no matter what it takes.

Popeye
08-16-2011, 12:06 PM
Bawanna, that's why I chose not to let it go,because it can spread to other areas. Didn't want to take that chance but they had to tell me that do nothing was also one of my options. Hell today all I do is have it checked every 6 months and I'm good to go as if it never happened. :biggrin1:

jocko
08-16-2011, 12:14 PM
nope, don't believe that bawanna, cures are not something that drug companies hide. Might be technology out there for 75 mpg but we can't afford to buy the vehicle, nope not buying that either, but heh, who am I to argue with the great one either. I will get to the P. O. pronto and recall my special package to you.

No worries I got room for 3 more horse heads on my living room wall, I've arranged them quite nicely I think.

After that I'll have to redo the man cave and make room for a dozen or so out there. I think I'm up to 19 at last count.
