Looking at a used PM9 of unknown history. Looks like its never been never cleaned or lubed and to have a couple hundred rounds shot. Feels tight and show very little wear.

Should I be concerned?

I am not asking for a cost analysis, just want to avoid any potential mechanical pitfalls. For example, should I be concerned if the gun was not broke-in properly. Is there more than one version and I should avoid one or the other, especially if the gun was not broke-in properly.

Kahr pistols are pretty tough. The only issue with an improper break in is the frustration the shooter might experience during the process.

Replied . . . to a fellow Arizonan. :)

Rack the slide and make sure is moves freely.
I'ts not a biggie, but the slide stop spring is easily bent.
Causing premature slide lock.
It's a cheap easy fix.
But I think some people do it accidentally during reassembly.
And then think the gun is unreliable and get rid of it.

Check bore, action, frame...
The PM is a newer model from Kahr anyway.
Don't think there were any specific issues with any PMs.

I bought mine slightly used. (maybe 50 rounds) I thought the pistol was new. I've never had a problem of any sort. If the price is attractive when compared to new I buy it in a heart beat. If it's not I'd let it go and buy new.

Thanks for the kind advice and info. It has standard sights but comes with a Crimson Trace laser box and 1x 6rnd mag for $600.

Unless you really want the laser, that's a good but not too hard to find price.

Balance the cost savings against Kahr's warranty only to the first owner and their willingness to cover shipping on guns returned for warranty service. That shipping cost can nicely eliminate any savings.

With that caveat, if it speaks to your heart . . . go for it. Around here, PM's are not usually stocked by dealers. They go for the less expensive CW line.

Again only talking about the pistol itself, the recently released CM9 can be found easily for less than $450. It is the same size as the PM9 you are considering.

I am not a laser guy, but I believe you are probably looking at $150 for the Crimson trace itself. However, they too have a great warranty that has been helpful to forum members. You should research if it extends to a used product before making your decision.

Whatever you decide, you are likely to be happy and we will be glad to help with any bumps in the road. :D

serial number will tell u alot. u can check out aht on the glock talk, under kahr serial # and see when it was made. Kahrs are tight, u ca't tell if one has 1 round or 5000 rounds out of it, if it has bneenproperly taken care of. ine khas over 32K through it and I c an assure u it is as tight as it was after 1000 rounds and looks perfect through out. Some guns might show wear frojmalot of shooting but again I would be 905 of allguns traded have never been shot 2500 rounds even, so fear no with amout of round through it. Look it over good, price with laser is good, IF you wnat a laser on ur gun, if not then I would consider the kahr cm9, basically the same damn gun for around $400. to $450

5 year warranty on khars, so that could be a factor if u are worried about that stuff, and again serial number will give age of mfg . Kahr can al;so tell yhouwhen it was made..

The PM9's are rugged and reliable guns - look for common sense signs of "home gunsmithing" like file marks and check the frame for cracks (not a known probelm - but easy to look for) . If it looks okay buy it - Worst case you have to buy a part from Kahr (easy to do on website)

Picked it up this am. Gave it a brief cleaning and and went to the range. Put 100 rounds of my reloads through it. These are 125 gr lite loads. I loaded these to just cycle the slide on my glock 17. I was worried they might not cycle the PM9. Did not have one problem and the gun is very accurate. Here is the first target at 25 then 50ft. Shoots just as nice as my PM45. I even like the laser as it was visible in bright daylight. I am very happy! Thanks for all the advice.

u did well, damn nice group to. very nice. I am still using the same 9" paper plate that I started shooting at 32K rounds ago. Still looks great even, I guess I should not be to proud of that though.
