We finally got power back yesterday evening and internet access this morning. We came through the storm OK with practically no damage to the house. As Atlantic sits on higher ground than the surrounding communites there was a bare minimum of flooding problems here. Not so in other nearby towns. Many lost much which brings me to what I want to give you to think about. The first group to offer aid did so in the way of hot food for the victims of this natural disaster. It was the Salvation Army. The first group to show up to help people rebuild their shattered homes was the Baptist Men`s Association. Both Christian based organizations.I have seen no one else.

Good to see that you are back and that all went relatively well.

Some of the people on here thought they saw you on TV wearing a pink shower cap and nothing else.

Surely you didn't think that FEMA would be first in line to help.

Very glad to hear you came through safe and sound! I sure know how it is when bad weather strikes. We get our share here in SW Missouri. It is always good to be prepared for the times when mother nature gets grumpy. :D

First of all,I wouldn`t be caught dead wearing a pink shower cap.How tacky.
Secondly,no,I didn`t expect to see FEMA.Our governess flew over in her helicopter and later made a speech for the cameras.I`m sure that I would have found immense comfort in her words if I could have seen her on television, but with no electricity... Haven`t seen the Red Cross either.Or any foreign countries offering aid.Odd ain`t it?

What they all said pal. Now I can find something else to worry about. I had your number and was chomping to have someone call but figured you had enough to deal with without me chatting you up on the telephone.

Thanks for the tip, I'm throwing away my pink shower cap. Who knew.

Awful glad your all ok and back with us.

Whew! I feel much better knowing you are okay Dietrich. Didn't think I'd fret much since it was such a minor blow, but the longer the silence the more fret. Welcome home.

And that surprises people why? They were expecting maybe the Muslims?

Anyway, glad you're back and had minimal damage.

I`ll be honest with you Linc.I`ve been through two worse hurricanes as far as pure power goes but I`ve never been in one that lasted half as long as this one did.It went through two full changes of the tide. What flooded during the first high tide didn`t have time to recede before the next high tide came in so everything flooded twice. The strongest wind we felt was 115 mph according to the Cedar Island/Ocracoke ferry office. On a non-storm related note,I really missed shooting the breeze with you guys.Is it peculiar behavior to actually miss someone you`ve never laid eyes on in person?Mrs.Dietrich has always said that I was an oddball but I always figured she just said that because she`s jealous.

Glad to hear you made it through relatively unscathed. That the Salvation Army was the first to show up is no surprise to me. That is one organization I will gladly donate too. They prove time and time again that they really care about people that have been through a disaster and are usually the first to show up.

They are about the only ones I do. Then of course I buy books from their store. Can't beat the selection or price and I don't mind passing them on.

The roads had a lot of debris washed up from the sound and the marshes.Seaweed, marsh grass, pieces of docks, etc.,that were pushed off the road by private motorgrader owners and by the state. All roads in this location are open. The Outer Banks had several places where Hiway 12 was compromised. All of this is normal after a storm here.

Dietrich: Glad to hear you rode-out the storm with minimal damage. I had the (mis)fortune 6 years ago to struggle thru the Katrinia mess in MS. Salvation Army is great. They do wonderful work. Have contributed to them for years.
