View Full Version : Extra Power P380 Mag Springs work good

I read somewhere on this forum (I think Jocko posted it - Many good ideas come from him!) That the Keltec P3AT springs from Wolff will work fine as extra power springs in the 6 round P380 mag.

I bought some and tried it and they work great! The factory springs worked fine also (Yep, fixing things that ain't broke - must have too much time on my hands) but seemed to me to have a lighter force on the rounds than other mags for other pistols that I own and I worried about the stock springs holding up with 6 rounds on them day after day. These Wolff sorings look just the same but have 2 extra coils. Anyhow for those who are interested:

A pack of 3 from wolff, stock number 79073, is about $18

I'm posting this as a new thread because I can't find the original post.

Yes they do "work", sort of. I tried them in 2 of 4 mags as a comparison with the OEM springs. After 3000+ rnds on the OEM and about about 2400 rnds on the Wolff Keltec, the Wolff Keltec are weaker and have more set "shorter" than the OEM. I purchased a 10 pack and gave the remainder of them to a friend for his Keltec. Waste of money. The wire, on the Wolff Keltec, is a smaller dia. than the Kahr. When they say 10% extra power it's 10% more than Keltec specs. out.

That's kind of the experience I had. I went back to the regular Kahr ones.

I just checked again at http://www.gunsprings.com/index.cfm?page=items&cID=1&mID=29 and there's still no support for the P380 OR the .45's.

considering wolffs makes alla of kahrs springs. I ain't buying the part that the 10%mpore strength magazine springs aree under rated than kahr standard springs.. Nothing wrong with kahrs factory springs, but certainly nothing wrong witht he wolffs 10% more strength mag springs either

My generalized opinion... If it is just going to be a range gun then knock yourself out with whatever non-OEM springs tickle your fancy. For carry SD and HD I'd stick with OEM. If Wolf is the OEM for Kahr springs then I'd get the same ones that Kahr puts in their piece.

Lots of opinions on the springs! I'm really gald to get more feedback on this because it could be very imortant to people who depend upon the P380 as a carry gun!

I got out my Mitutoyo (or however you spell it ) calipers and measured wire diameter of the springs:

Stock = .037
Wolff PTA3 = .0.36
Otherwise the springs appeared to be idential in size and finish, except for the extra two coils on the Wolff.

I got some magazines out and pressed on the follower. The Wolff was noticeably more difficult to move.

I don't think the .001 difference in diameter is significant and in fact both springs varied .001 in either direction from their average measurements of .036 and .037. I don't know a lot abut springs but I would assume that the difference between .036 and .037 could be an acceptable manufacturing vriation.

But one never knows - As of now I think the P3AT are made of the same material and will remain more powerful - But I'm saving one of 4 mags as stock. I shoot a lot so if the Wolff springs don't work after a while I'll report back.

I ckecked with Wolff by email - The wire for both springs is the same.
