The frame rail on the right side of my PM45 (toward the front, the smaller rail) is shaving from the slide. Anyone else had this problem? Is Kahr able to remedy it?

Mine and many others did that a little bit. I just took an exacto knife and trimmed the offending sliver off. Take a little sandpaper or a fine file and clean it up or just leave it. It won't get worse. It really doesn't do anything but guide the slide onto the metal guides.
Pure cosmetic and doesn't hurt anything at all.
Oh and welcome to the forum. Just noticed first post. Hope you find it a nice oasis as many of us do.

His description is unclear... small rail shaving from the slide... the steel slide??
Pictures are helpful.

no need to have kahr remedy it. If u just keep shooting it, the slide will wear in/out that raised area on that rail. that rail does not contact the slide when in operation. It is there to help you slide the slide on right and probably gives that upper part alittle stiffness. What your doing is just shooting/wearing in the gun. Some of the polymer guns will do what urs is doing. There is noting wrong with your gun. U can fine sand that area and help it along faster or just leave it alone and shoot it like u stole it.

Thanks. It didn't appear to affect the function, but I had to ask. Of the many guns I own, I only have two in polymer.

Let me guess, is one of the many a Python? Just a wild guess......
Jealous.

2 1/2",4" and 6". Probably older than you are. Paid less than $200 for each one brand new.

then I am guessing you are also an old man to. I sold guns for 40 years and I can't remember a python being less than $200, what a steal. They used to say back then that the cold python spent 6 hours on a colt timing bench just geting finely hones and timed. never felt a smoother gun, But in all honesty the CVolt Python was certainlyt not a good seller for us. The 6" models sold somewhat but the 2.5" model which I had one in the case that was nickel set there for years..
I see that in 1968 they retailed for $ 160, so I must have sleept to long to remember back then, Unbelieveable as today they in excellent condtion are going for around $1200 on up-, With box and papers even more..
I think the "culprit" is not the act of shooting, but the act of taking the slide off that brings up that little hangnail of plastic.
The right side... the half moon cutout in the slide for the disconnector arm on the trigger bar... sharp little cutout that is! Watch for burrs there, use care upon disassembly...
My 2c at least

I think you're probably right. I have Glock 30 that has probably 3K rounds through it with no apparent wear. It cost $400, but it's a brick. that is why I bought the PM45 (for a lot more $$). Kahr should have reinforced the rails on the frame with steel like the guide rail in the frame. I have no confidence in this gun. It's as good as gone. I'm going back to my Wilson Sentinel. It's a single stack, and gives me six plus one. I'll live with the extra weight, literally and figuratively.

The poly rails are there to assist in putting the slide back on the gun. The rails the slide operates on are steel. The front rails are molded into the dust cover and the rear rails are molded into the rear of the frame.

I understand and know that, but I don't have to like it. Thanks for your input.

OK, no problem and you're welcome.
I've been thinking about going with a PM45. Might I ask why you have no confidence in the gun? Are you having reliability or accuracy issues with it?

Greg

Here are some patent drawings of the steel inserts:

The whole patent:

I haven't run across color photos, but there are probably some out there.

Thats frame rail shaving! And Kahr corrected it promptly too!

ur rails shaving are of the actual steel insert. I don't think he isw referring to the steel insert. Kahr shouldhave addressed ur issue. something was really outta whack onur steel rails..
I know, Jocko... sorta making a comparison - to show the difference.
I ran my finger inside the slide of my PM45 and PM9... the only sharp spot is the disconnector notch. The REAR part of the notch can be smoothed a little, with no effect on performance. The FRONT should be left alone. The rear is the part that can shave a little doo-dad off the plastic rail. Notice the direction the shavings come from, always shaved from the back forward. So... thats something to consider I guess.
