Hi Guys,

I just joined this forum. I am picking up my new CM9 that I ordered from Davidson's on Tuesday. This is my first Kahr. I've been reading as much as I can around the forum. I'll follow all the prep instruction etc... I was just wondering whether the initial 200 break-in round should be fired all in one session? Should in do 50 a day for 4 days? 100 a day for 2 days? If I don't do them all in one session, should I clean the gun between sessions during the break-in period? I'm an Eezox guy. I use Shooter's Choice synthetic grease on the rails. Is this procedure OK for the break-in period or should I use conventional gun oil and grease until the break-in is finished. How much does a human head weight? Sorry for all the questions. I just want to get it right from the start. BTW, this CM9 is to replace my LCP which was great but just not for me.

Thanks in Advance,
Mark

I did them all in one session on my CW's, My arm was getting tired after 215 rounds of .40, 200 FMJ and 2 mags of my SD load to see if they functioned well. I put another 300 or so rounds thru it before I felt comfortable carrying it. I put as many rounds through my CW45 as I could before it broke and the trigger wouldn't reset and it went back to Kahr. Now still working to the 500 mark on it, but I do carry it alot since it's had about 150 rounds with no malfunctions since I got it back. I like to have 500 flawless rounds thru a semi before carrying, but I think the .45 is pretty well broke in. I know I have at least one shot, so plan on making that one count.
Seems like a lot of people do the 200 rounds and more during one session, particularly with the 9mm's, the 200 rounds with practice ammo, then enough of their self defense ammo to be comfortable carrying it for sd.

You can do it either way. It's easy to tire when shooting a lot of rounds so I favor no more than 100rds. I also recommend cleaning the gun after each range trip even if only 50 rounds and lube (not just oil) the areas on the lube chart, especially Lube Point 6 as it gets a lot of friction during break in. I don't know about lubes other than I use TW25 (always have) and it works well.

As I recall, I did a field-strip, clean, and lube (generously!) the night I got my CW9, then racked the slide about 400-500 times until my cats were freaking out and hiding in the closets.

Next day, I put 150 rounds through it at the range... and I would say it was officially 'broken-in' at that point. A couple days later I put another 100 through. I stopped on the first day because I wanted to give my SIGs some exercise too.

No a single misfeed or malfunction, and there hasn't been since. I'd trust my life to this pistol.

When I took my new PM9 to the range for its initial break-in, I fired 425 rds. of various ammo thru the little pistol in one session using five mags. This included ball of different types, HP ammo of different types and my reloads. I shot weights from 124 gr. thru 147 hr.

I did not go by any posted recommendations on cleaning/lubing. I've broken in more than a few new pistols in my day and I treated the PM9 in the same manner.

I field stripped the pistol, wiped the various parts down and applied lube to the moving parts where needed. I ran a couple of patches thru the bore wet with FP-10. I used TW-25B while grease on the rails.

I did NOT work the slide 500 times. It was worked maybe 25-30 times during my prep session.

I did NOT clean or lube the PM9 throughout my range session firing the 425 rds. I wanted to see if the pistol would run dirty and with only what lube was left...it DID!

The PM9 itself ran 100% however, two of my five mags split down the folds in the rear of the mags. They were replaced by Kahr under warranty.

Good luck with your pistol.

Welcome to KahrTalk! Best of luck with your new CM9.

If you can hold your form and concentration through 200 rounds in a single session then go for it. I'd only go 100 rounds because I know I'd likely get sloppy and introduce problems not gun or ammo related. Personally I would clean after each 50 rounds regardless of whether you shoot a single session or four.

400+ round sis alot of shooting (even out of a machine gun). Let alone a PM9.

I don't gear up for a range session only to shoot 100 rds. or even less. ;)

I shot 228 through my PM9 on the first trip.

200 FMJ first and 28 JHP after…
shooting the JHP slow, double tap, 90 degree right and left angles.

I had a FTE on the first round fired then another in the third mag…flawless since…
over 1100 rounds…..and I too only did a standard clean and lube beforehand.....
didn’t clean during the session.

200 rounds won’t be a problem since you now have a LCP….and speaking of the LCP….
you don’t have to replace it….just move it to BUG duty :D

Last Thursday, after cleaning and lubricating my brand new CM9, I shot 370 rounds from one magazine in a little over an hour. Absolutely NO issues. I even forgot and "sling shotted" about 25% of those magazines, also with no issues. Hand not even sore.

I wanted to make sure that this new pistol was reliable. Now, I will probably shoot only around 100 rounds in it per ranged trip.

I love this CM9!!!!

Shoot the number of rounds you feel comfortable shooting. If it`s 100,200 or 300.The gun ,as good as it is,can`t count so no worries there. On my original range session with my PM9,I shot 200 fmj and 50 of my jhp self defense ammo.No problems then or since.

Thanks all for your suggestions!! The LCP is already gone. I put it up on the free gun selling site "Armslist.com" and it was gone in a matter of hours. LCP, CTC, and the box and stuff it came with for $450.00. I needed the cash to buy the CM. $463.36 out the door for the brand new CM. So, $13.36 out of pocket to me. It seems like a pretty fair trade for me. Plus, I do not need to shop around for those Buffalo Bore hardcast flat nose in 380 and the expense of the 380 range rounds. 9mm 100 round white box at Wallyworld for the range and Ranger T-Series (assuming my CM shoots them) to carry.

Back when I got my PM9 I found my P3AT in the safe more than with me so I sold it.
Later I wished I hadn’t…because it’s really not that much heavier than a 7 round back up mag.
I’ve since picked up an LCP on barter…decent gun…it’ll fill the role but…. It’s still not my P3AT:D

That worked out good for you. I still have my LCP just as you mentioned yours was and I don't carry it much anymore if I have a cover for IWB. I Can't quite pocket carry the CM9 yet. I'd have to get some suspenders

200 rounds may be a little much for a new gun with close tolerances - and 200 rounds out of a 14 oz PM9 is a lot of shooting for one session. My PM9 just "ran" right out of the box - at about 75 rounds it was getting boring. So I put it away and shot my p380 for a while. Some guns you just "know" are broken in. The PM9 was like that. One of the P380's was a problem child and went 500 rounds before it settled in.

That's why you are recommended to rack the slide 500 times and polishing up some stuff before firing a shot. Whish I had listened to that advice on my first one!

Man! 75 rounds is boring... but 500 racks isn't!??:D

I usually shoot at least 200 rounds per gun for a few and buy some more at the range sometimes because I wasn't ready to quit! I know that gets expensive, though!

I shot 571 rounds of .45ACP... all 230-gr, on one visit, but I may have had more than one .45 with me.

I hope that you guys doing all that racking, use gloves... at least on the racking hand to cut down on blisters and injuries. I did 20 to 50 racks and got bored, but I still used a glove... much nicer on the hand.

For what it's worth, I shot 250 rounds through my P9 after purchase with 1 FTF. Cleaned gun thoroughly and returned to the range the next day for a 200 round session--not a single issue. Just returned from range this morning from my 3rd outing with the gun. 200 rounds--perfect performance. I feel like the gun is broken in at this point and ready for CCW as the weather here in Texas begins to cool down. During the heat of summer I carry the LCP. Both guns have Crimon Trace.

Congrats on your Kahr!

I live in South West Florida. I don't own gloves! :D I gave them to Goodwill along with my coats when I moved here from NJ. Maybe I'll get a pair of $4.00 work gloves from Home Depot.

I guess you don't do yard work, either?:D

I always carry an old Nomex glove from my Air Force flying, with the fingers(glove's:D) cut off, just in case I start feeling any sore spots. On a recent test with my three .45's, I fired about 270 rounds without feeling the need for that... and had no problems. I think I've figured out how to hold the different pistols without injury.

The S&W is stock. The Springfield is pretty much "stock" with just darker Cocobolo grips, and the PM45 has the bike tube covering the cheese graters, so everything is nice and "comfy".

I do much yard work. However being a former landscape company owner, I cannot wear gloves. I need to feel what I'm doing. Yes, I receive many cuts scrapes and bruises. I won't were gloves shooting. I want to be used to the gun is if it were a self defense situation. Furthermore, I'm a tennis player. I have been ranked and currently my mixed doubles partner and I are ranked 13 in our district and 16 in the state of Florida in Mixed Doubles. Point being, that I play so much tennis that my hands are used to being abused my the racquet's grip. I have calculus on top of calculus.

Hey! We do what we must to amuse ourselves... as long as we keep it friendly.:)

I "bite my tongue" or keep my hands off the keyboard a lot here. I'm kind of anal about spelling and want to be a "spelling enforcer". I would like to see the advertisers pay a $10,000 fine every time they use the phrase "Like me" and promote the misuse of the English language. "Like me" is ONLY correct when it is used as a verb, as in "Do you like me?" Any other time "as I" or even more correctly "As I do" is correct. GRRRR!
O.C.D!

Well done!! I agree 100%. Since my divorce, I don't have a proofreader around. I have an ex-girlfriend who also is and English major. She goes through the email I send her and returns it with a red pen, makes correction, and leaves notes. At least I didn't axe you a question. LOL!!

I don't know how good I could play tennis after a couple mixed doubles! In my youth I could pound down a six pack and then run 5 miles. I can still do a six pack but it takes 3 days and then I don't run, just want to take a nap.

Never did grasp calculus, had my share of calouses, which reminds me off to Sept for my Bag Balm story.................

I have those six-pack abs... but I believe the more "usual" term these days might be "beer belly"! LOLAROTF!! I don't drink that much beer... an ale now and then... or a Michelob Light... as required for the food I'm stuffing in my pie hole. Most of the time it's a glass or two of wine... OR three... ~ 4-5 oz in a 10-oz wine glass... it's gotta breathe! Hey, it's medicinal RED wine!:D
