Hey, All! Just joined the forum and excited to get to meet all the Kahr experts here. A friend heard I had been searching for the perfect CCW for months, and I was about to purchase a Kel-tec P11. He invited me to join him at the shooting range the next day to shoot some of his favorites. He brought a whole arsenal of pistols for me to enjoy shooting: Glock, Kimber Solo, Kimber 1911, Sig 238, Kahr PM9 (Brand New), and others I can't remember. I brought my Ruger SP101 (38 special only) to try out my new Hogue grips.

After shooting all the pistols several times, I seemed to "bond" most with the PM9. He asked, "Do you like that one?" I said, "Yes, quite a bit." Then he said, "It's YOURS!" I was totally stunned. He refused to take any money, and insisted it was a personal gift to me. WOW!

So...less than one week and 100 rounds later, I found this site. Hope I can return the favor of gaining from all your wisdom as you deal with my newbie questions and issues. Thanks ahead of time!

Awesome! I owned a P-11 several years ago. It was OK, but certainly not great. I think your post probably falls into the "friends don't let friends buy Kel-Tecs" category. ;)

Congratulations! and Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the Forum!!

Be sure to spend a lot of time in the Kahr-Tech Forum (http://kahrtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=27). Thgere are a lot of excellent tips and guides there. Kahrs are a bit tighter, etc than some so be sure to go through the cleaning threads and lube diagram.

Since you have a friend with Kahr experience he can advise you if you have issues but don't hesitate to ask here. We love success stories and strive to make all stories happy ones.

Ha! In fact, he told me he'd do anything to keep me from buying a Kel-Tec. Guess it worked! Thanks for the welcome!

Thanks, OldLincoln! From what I've read already on this forum tonight, I'll be spending as much time as I can to get a good education on Kahrs. I will tell you, some of the videos and other forums I've seen and read regarding the special loading procedure for the PM9 has "scared" me at first. However, I don't think it's that big of a deal to have to load with the release switch vs. the standard "slingshot" approach. I'm sure there's TONS of info on that issue somewhere on this forum, but I'll be sure to find and read it all.

Welcome. I need a friend like that.

Keep that PM9 cleaned and lubed and the only issue you will likely have to ask about is what holster you want to get. You are going to like that gun.

Not sure about that. The original owners manual (unopened) was still in the package & case. Opened the package to find the warranty card was never filled in. Just in case, I went online and filled in the warranty info in MY NAME. Do you think that will work if I need some repairs or adjustments?

Yep! Read all the posts about the need to keep it cleaned and lubed. I used Remington's Rem Oil everywhere I could see that is a movable part. Forgot to tell you, but my buddy also gave me a new holster for my PM9. It's a black Tagua OWB. A bit tight, especially around the slide release, but very nice.

Thanks, Dietrich! I've been to the range 2 other times since the first time with my friend. Still need a little work on my trigger finger. I have a newbie tendency to "flinch" and shoot a little low and to the left (I'm right handed). I'll let you know.

The warranty card asked where I purchased the gun, and I listed it as "a gift" and added that I did not know where the gun was purchased. Hopefully, that will be sufficient. I've heard good and bad things about Kahr's service, but MOSTLY good to "excellent."

I was surprised to hear (and read) that Kahr's warranty was only 5 years instead of lifetime, like the Kel-Tec I was originally shopping for. Did that surprise anyone else here on the forum?

TucsonMTB
09-05-2011, 02:46 PM
The five year warranty is pretty much old news by now. Kahr still covers guns purchased with a lifetime warranty for their lifetime. Guns purchased since their policy change are, of course, only warranted for five years.

It's not an issue, so far as I can tell, but then . . . I am not a long time Kahr owner, so you may hear some additional opinions expressed. ;)

This is after all KahrTalk where people speak their mind freely.

I live in Ft. Worth, but work in Arlington. I've only been to two places so far: Winchester (820 & Lancaster, $13 indoor) and Alpine (Burleson, Mansfield, $10 outdoor). I just discovered the Shooters Club, so I may try that out next. What's it like there, indoor or outdoor? Pricey? Glad to meet some metro family here on the forum!

I'd just use your regular full size target and use that target as a guideline. Low left is low left, Low right etc. Shooting low, shooting high, whatever your doing. The target will tell you probable causes.

It printed out as a letter sized document (8.5 x 11 inches) for me. That certainly makes it large enough for 7 yards or more. YMMV

Edited to add: Even though you could shoot at this target, Bawanna nailed it when he suggested that it is really intended to be a guide to analyzing your regular target, rather than something to shoot at.

Shooter's club is ok now. It used to be a lot better. It's indoor, you pay I think $15 for a lifetime membership, and then a range fee when you go (pretty reasonable at like $7 ish for two hours and buck or two per hour after that) it does get hot, and only goes out to 25 yards. They used to have better staff, but I haven't been in there in some time.
Welcome to the asylum.

Yea, that's what I thought, too. I still may shoot it up just for funsies, then print another copy.

I wonder what the $15 membership covers? Is the club too exclusive to allow walk-ins? Seven bucks seems a bit cheap. Hopefully, they didn't hike the prices since you've been there last. I may check it out soon. Today, I'll be heading out to Alpine outdoor range. Still trying to break in that new PM9. Thanks for the info on Shooter's Club!

Dang! That sounds like the place I used to shoot skeet while I was at Carswell AFB on one of my many lengthy training TDYs there from Abilene... training in the "aluminum overcast", or BUFF.

The day I first arrived at Carswell was memorable because I was coming from Sacramento(March 1974)... Mather AFB, and had ALL of my guns and reloading components in the trunk! Wouldn't you know that I got picked for a "random" vehicle check!?? How embarrassing when they opened the trunk! They were awestruck, but at least they didn't have to call Homeland Security and take me into custody!
I did have to put my guns... just the pistols(??) in the armory. I don't remember about the powder and primers.:D
Down here, all of the Navy Bases have signs saying deadly weapons are prohibited and subject to CONFISCATION!
Hurlburt Field, where all of the Special Ops aircraft are stationed, had no such warnings! I had worried about that when we visited our nephew there earlier this year. "Don't ask, don't tell".
Ramble....

Yeah, I was expected to store my shotgun in the armory at Fort Sill while stationed there. No big deal. It was expected that we would draw the weapon on Friday and keep it in our automobile trunk until a convenient time to return it storage. I ended up building a really neat wooden case for it that I still have. It would probably have survived in rear end collision in that case. :D

Actually, neither of you are intellectually challenged. Computers are a black art. The close quote code goes after the last word in the quote.

Try replying with a quote to this message. Then type or copy the same characters including the "[ ]'s" that appear at the beginning of the quote in front of one of the paragraphs in the quote. At the same time type or copy the characters from the end of the quote at the end of the paragraph before the one where you added the characters to the front.

The codes work in pairs. You need one to start the quote and a second to end it, otherwise the quote just shows up as text.

Sorry about the poor explanation. :o

My explanation just sucks, sorry. Look at a quote and identify the stuff inside the [ ] marks at the beginning. That's "open" quote code you will need. Hint, it includes the poster's name.

Look at the end for the much simpler "close" quote code.

You need to use them in pairs.

I hope that made more sense. :o

Pretty much. The
is at the end of the quote. The
is at the beginning.

Notice that they must be used in pairs and in the proper order. That's why you can see the codes in my message. They are in reverse order. ;)

Brilliant! I have never used the MQ button, so it may not work as advertised. Oh, well.

By the way, if you save the quotes as a group in NotePad, not only can you easily combine many posts, but you can even post from one forum to another, since most of the forum software uses the same coding. ;)

Edited to add: Here is a quote from GlockTalk.
