View Full Version : Kahrs vs .22's

Wish I had more time to go out shooting. Had a few minutes today. As I chose which guns to use, I instinctively selected a couple of my .22's (Browning & Beretta) for today's enjoyment. Left the Kahr and others on the shelf.

I asked myself why, and my self answered "It's because I actually enjoy shooting the .22's more than most of the others".

Of course the economics play a part. Every time my Kahr goes BANG another 25 to 50 cents is gone, while only it only costs a few pennies a shot with a .22. But's that's only one aspect.

I like guns because I like nice ones and I like shooting them. My MK9 Elite is a very nice gun, and I appreciate it as fine engineering and for its elegant mechanical workmanship. But I don't like shooting it that much. On the other hand, I *do* like shooting my .22's - a lot. I also like my 1911s and big 9mm's, but find that I choose them less.

What if Kahr made a .22 conversion kit like they do for 1911s? (I don't have one for my 1911s but it's tempting.) Or maybe this is not possible. Just dreaming, because I do like my Kahr for what it is, but I have been wondering why I find myself gravitating towards the rimfires when I have a choice, at least for casual shooting.

What browning and Beretta .22 do you have? I have a .22 bobcat and sometimes I shoot it single shot with the double action trigger just as practice with short sights and long trigger pull. My Ruger Mark III I use to practice holding stedy and shooting 25 to 50 yards.

That would be a cool deal, making a .22 conversion kit for the Kahrs. They'd probably do it for just 1 or 2 models and I'd probably have the wrong model.

I would definitely buy a .22lr conversion kit for my PM9 if it were available. I have a kit for my Beretta 92 and I love it. Works great and I'm able to enjoy shooting my 92FS a lot more...same grip, same trigger/safety/mag release, etc. I just take the 92FS and the extra .22lr slide (and mags) and I'm good to go with both the 9mm and the .22...it's as easy as a simple field strip.

I've been pondering what it would take to make a Kahr .22lr kit...I've been thinking about calling Kahr and asking about it. There have been threads about this in the past, but haven't heard anything recently.

I just finished fleshing out my personal defense weapon requirements, got familiar with them, made sure they were reliable, got more mags, made sure they were also reliable, worked on my aim a bit, took a defense course in a live fire range with moving and shooting at the same time, etc.

So then I started thinking more about shooting for fun, and for long range accuracy. And I ended up ordering...

...a S&W M&P 15/22. Plus a crapload of various different kinds of .22 ammo. You see, I was thinking the same thing. I've got my personal defense thing all worked out, now I want to shoot a lot of bullets. Those things ain't cheap, so it's time for a .22 rifle. I already have an ultra lightweight S&W 317 .22 revolver, which is fun to shoot, but I can't even reliably hit the silhouette target at 50 feet with it, due to the 1 - 7/8" barrel.

Just seconds before I came to this thread, I went to the Kahr website to see if they made a .22 pistol. I would definitely buy a .22lr conversion kit for my CM9 if they made one.

Sometimes a .22 is all you need for a great time. On the other hand, I really enjoy shooting some of my larger guns because they are so smooth and easy. The Beretta 92fs INOX is a joy. Then there's the cost. Even in bulk, my favorite practice ammo is 21 cents a pop. For the cost of one box of 9mm, I can shoot a whole bunch of .22lr.

Having a good .22 is helpful too. I've gone through a couple dogs, (Mosquito, Firestorm and P22), but I have several that are just plain fun. A couple Berettas in the form of a NEOS, (which is a very underrated gun for the price), and a older 948, which is just too cool.

For target time I have an extraordinary Colt Woodsman Match Target, the most accurate gun I've ever shot. Almost as good is a Browning Buckmark 5.5 Field that has a terrific trigger, the equal of the Colt. A funky and slightly odd, but accurate, S&W 622 rounds out the "target trio". If I really, really want to hit something, these will do the trick.

For fun and grins I have a very nice Daewoo DP52. I really like this pistol. If I could find another one I'd buy it. Close kin to the Daewoo is a Walther PPK/S I found for a reasonable price, (mainly because it was refinished poorly), that is simply a blast. "Take that Dr. No!"

When I feel like something small I break out the Walther TPH and the similar American Arms PX22. Tiny but fun and not to be underestimated in accuracy.

Sometimes a .22 goes a long way to scratching the itch. Now if I could just find a American 180 somewhere... :33:

I would absolutely love a Kahr K22 or a CW22 that is the same size as the CW9.

You know, I have heard some negatives about Taurus pistols, but have owned one and found it to be a high quality gun. Taurus has a line of pistols in several calibers with totally ambidextrous controls (which I like, being a lefty) - the 800 Series. And they have a .22 conversion kit (http://www.taurususa.com/product-details.cfm?id=708&category=Pistol&toggle=&breadcrumbseries=) available for these guns. I am looking seriously at the 845 (http://www.taurususa.com/product-details.cfm?id=795&category=Pistol&toggle=&breadcrumbseries=), a really nice looking design.

not many people I shoot with have more fun than when I bring along my AR with the .22 conversion kit. That thing gets shot ALL DAY long.

Browning is a Buck Mark Camper URX that I really like because of its very smooth trigger, and the Beretta is a 87 Target that in my opinion is no more fun than the Browning but twice the price.

I haven't gone out to 50 yards yet with either of these, but maybe with practice....

I don't plan to defend myself with a .22, but 90% of the enjoyment I get from guns comes from actually shooting them, and my .22's provide that the best.

No company can do everything, and Kahr's niche seems to be small, high-quality guns for personal defense, so I am not expecting to see them provide a conversion kit. But it would be interesting to me, and apparently a few others here.

The guns I actually enjoy shooting the most are my Blackhawk .357, Super Single Six, LW Officers ACP, and .22 short Beretta Minx. An eclectic bunch of old friends, all 25 to 40 years old, that I''ve owned since new.

I like to have a 22 that is the same or as near the same as my carry piece as possible. With that in mind when my son was seriously looking to purchase a 22 I steered him toward the SIG Mosquito because it felt more like a normal handgun than the other choices he was looking at. I flat out told him that if HE decided he didn't like that choice I would give him what he paid for it with no questions. When I purchased a Ruger MKII I offered to trade straight up before we had ever hit the range with it. So far he still likes the Mosquito and in fact it is what he carries (not because he wants to carry a 22 but because THAT is his handgun, he sometimes carries something of mine along with the Mosquito).

I think a person should own at least 5 firearms...
Hunting rifle in whatever style they prefer IE bolt action or semi auto
22 rifle of the same style preferably as close to the same as possible
shotgun for home defence
personal defence handgun in style of choice
22 handgun of the same style

I have the .22 conversion kit for my old West German SIG P220. After some break-in issues, it now works beautifully.

What I like is the ability to shoot so cheaply using a platform that I use all the time. I've done some modifications to the magazines so the slide locks back after the last round, and expanded their capacity as well.

Someday, I'll get one for my P229, which is my go-to. If Kahr made a kit for the CW9, that would be amazing!

Yup, a Kahr .22 conversion kit would be nice. Sure would help me practice, too.

When I first posted my liking for .22's here on KahrTalk a few days ago I thought that perhaps such heresy might cause regulars to run me out of town. Whew! Looks like I survived that one.

But I'm not going to push my luck with any wishes for a ... revolver ... here. :) (Ooops, did I say a dirty word? Or is any gun a good gun?)

So I won't mention that I could imagine a nice SAA in my collection some day, since I now live "out West". Would be quite a contrast from my Kahr and other automatics, but I don't think that Kahr is going to help with that dream, so I'll keep quiet on that one.

Due to cost my 22's get the most shooting.

Any gun is a good gun within reason. SAA's totally rock. Wish I could own a half dozen or so real McCoys. I doubt Kahr will help ya on a revolver or a 22 for that matter but it never hurts to dream big.
Best circle the wagons in the evening, indians out here in the west don't ya know. I saw nearly a whole war party at the casino awhile back. Seemed peaceful enough but ya just never know.

Dude, the Indians are here on this board too!

A big chunk of my genetic background is native american. We seem pretty laid back most of the time, but we can be easily provoked.

You can talk about most any gun here. One exception may be that K*l-T*k company which may not get a favorabl response.

Yes, an eclectic bunch. Just curious - What is it about each one that makes you enjoy them? Is it because they are old friends, something about the way they work, or some other reason?

My first pistol - that was my Dad's and now mine - operated in SAO mode. For years I didn't know handguns operated any other way, and this is still what seems "natural" to me. Thus I tend to like SAO guns, although I am warming up to others.

I didn't want a conversion kit, just a K9 duplicate in .22LR for training my kids and for plinking. I spoke to Justin Moon at the SHOT show a number of years ago and he said such an item wasn't even on thier radar.
