To compliment my new PM9, I just received a brand new Kahr cap in the mail yesterday. Once I finally tore (CUT) through the tons of shipping tape from the box, I quickly retrieved my black cap with smashing gold lettering that shouted "KAHR."
It came complete with a set of instructions to help with the break-in period:
1. Loosen and refasten velcro strap 500 times.
2. Place cap on head and remove briskly at least 200 times. Depending on the head's size and shape, your new cap may require more than 200 repetitious removals.

Gold lettering??? Mine are all silver!... or so I thought... kind of a goldish silver. HMMM...
I keep one in the van for use at the range... protection from those Kahr "love taps". I have one in my closet(My wife didn't want a cap) and one at hand for going outdoors... light duty... have other caps for heavy sweating and such!
Wynn:)
On closer inspection... the inside portion of the lettering IS more gold-looking.

And don't forget you may need to sand down your forehead a little bit here and there...wouldn't want it to hang when you press the hat release button.

@#%$# At the cost of these hats I don't think and end user should have to do all this fluff and buff hocus pocus. I don't know why they can't make a gosh darn hat mil spec and be done with it. I know I"m not limp wristing it and its lubed plenty well.
I'm sending mine back, there's a loose thread inside where the beanie usually goes, mine didn't come with a beany either. @#%#$^

I was at Bud's Gun Shop in Lexington, KY last week, and they had a tub of Kahr hats with gold lettering for $7 each. I'm sure you paid less than that!!

Do they come with a little hole to spray out the gunk that might accumlate in the velcro channel?

It's ALWAYS a good idea to clean that hat after every use! You never know when the fashion terrorists will strike. For what it's worth, I tried the Block (er...Glock) hats....stayed on for sure, but didn't have a good 'feel' to my head.

Lots of people feel that way, usually they just switch to an xD hat, performs like a glock hat but fits more "naturally." BTW, I wonder how many times Jocko has worn his Kahr hat now?

Yep, Kahr charges only $5.95 for the hat, plus another $5.95 for shipping. That makes the whole purchase a bit more expensive for a "CCW: Concealed Cranium Wear." Hmmm...I see another connection with the cost of our pistols!

I use a cut bike innertube to help with gripping the bill.
Unfortunately, there's a gap with my CT Sunglasses on the newer hats.

Ooooo....didn't think about that one! I hear you can order an optional "Night Sight" to clip on the bill to help when the BG (bad guy) shows up after dark.

Trouble is, in the spirit of wyntrout's PM45 woes, the hat kept fracturing my skull, so I eventually had to send the hat back to the mothership FOUR TIMES to eventually replace the hatband.

Yeah, John Deere hats are great, but they're too thick. I wish they'd make a thinner one with single stitching, (like the Kahr Kap).

Let's face it guys. You'll always be able to find someone on a forum who wants to criticize the Kahr Kap and claim parkerized caps/hats like the John Deere are more dependable, though heavy and bulky. I really couldn't care less if the off-duty police wore them or not. For me, the CCW (Cranium Cover Wear) cap from Kahr fits my bald head the best, regardless of all the fluff and buff that may be needed from time to time.
Bawanna, I love that comment, bro! Really fits the bill (pun intended).

If your cap does not go on and off smoothly and consistently after about 200 tries clean and lube with Brylcream and re-test - If that doesn't work you may need new velcro (mine goes about 800 cycles) If it still malfunctions SEND IT BACK! Kahr has great service and will repair it and ship back it too you.

I'm still trying to figure out where this u-shaped notch on the left side of the bill came from. And the bulges at the temples too. I didn't notice them until I washed it for the first time...

Bawanna
09-16-2011, 05:34 PM
How can you be sure, he could have defective temples and maybe he has a rat infestation issue whereby they chewed a notch in the bill which of course would totally throw off the balance completely.
I'd call and insist on a prepaid shipping label, they don't give these things away. Well actually that's bald faced lie and momma says bald face lies hurt everyone they come in touch with. I got mine free, think it's the only free thing I ever got, dang it, that's another darn bald face lie. I'm just a bald faced liar. I got a free Khukri, now that was the coolest free thing.
I wish you luck with them defective temples and rats.

I ordered some Flitz from a company in California and they tossed in a free Eotac cap. Might become a collectors item because Eotac is out of business now. Or, more likely, they were clearing useless crap off their shelves. Who knows. :nerd: It is strange. It has 3 Velcro patches on it, covered by Velcro cover patches: one on the back, one 1" square one right on the crown (?), and the largest one on the front (forehead area) that is covered by a grey and black American flag patch (the cap is grey, so I guess they thought red, white and blue would have clashed (?)). I think it was supposed to come with a polymer piece to aid in attaching a defensive light to the bill, but I didn't get it. Does anyone know what those 3 Velcro patches are for?
sierrajb
09-17-2011, 12:37 AM
Oh, of course! Those 3 extra velcro patches are for backups in case the original velcro strap becomes faulty. Some feel the velcro should easily separate and fall to the ground with a simple touch of a button (sometimes called a "clean drop"), while others are okay with the need to pry apart the velcro (an acceptable design feature).
Regardless of your preference toward the speed of velcro release/drop, everyone should have at least 3 backup patches of velcro for their new Kahr Cap. In a volital, "heads up" SD situation, you never know when extra velcro will come in handy.

Please understand - everybody with new Kahr caps:
If this forum had a lube chart for the new Kahr caps, it would be for Lube grease (Brylcream, Dapper Dan's, etc.) not just oil (Vitalis)! The break-in is to force cloth parts that rub together by design to wear, get it? WEAR together until they are smooth. That wearing together creates a lot of FRICTION! Friction slows down the sliding of the bill into the correct position. The slide running slow causes failures, and your cap will fall off! You HAVE to clean your cap between visits and put extra lube (yes GREASE) on the lube points (See illustration on forum when it becomes available) until it is broken-in! If you fail to clean the cap or you fail to lube it properly, it is your failure - don't blame the cap!
You wouldn't buy a new fancy Kahr PM9, take it to the shooting range, then leave it dirty for the next range visit, only to complain when it has 8 failures, so don't do that to your Kahr cap!!!
(All in fun, OldLincoln....:boink: Just gotta poke you a bit!)
