Hello all,

I wanted to say thanks first, because I have learned a lot and this is what helped me to go with a Kahr.

Now for the reason of the thread, for starters I am new to pistols and the CW9 is the first pistol for me. I have done some of the slide racking probably about 200 to 250 times and did not have a problem with the slide lock. Today day re-assembling I place the slide lock in as directed and as far as I can tell the spring is in the little groove, but the slide lock is not moving to lock the slide and does not have any pressure on it at any point.

Could one of you more experienced then I please help this rookie out.

Thanks in advance

Assuming you are checking by having an empty mag inserted, and pulling the slide the whole way back?...

I would take it apart again and check that you did not bend the spring. If it looks OK, reassemble making sure it is pushed the whole way into the frame. And that the spring is going on top of the landing and sitting in the small groove.

Pardon us if you are more experienced than we realize, but what BEARDOG is referring to is that the empty magazine pressing up on the slide stop is what causes it to lock the gun open when empty. Without an empty magazine in place, nothing will happen.

If you look at the plastic magazine follower, you will see a metal insert that makes contact with the slide lock to push it up.

Admittedly, I would NOT panic if a new pistol did not lock back when you pull the slide back by hand with an empty magazine in place. None of my new Kahr pistols would lock back, except when shooting, until after shooting a magazine or two.

We have another member here, Jocko, who might seem quick to say "just shoot it like you stole it", but in truth the little spring on the frame that controls the movement of the slide lock goes through some shape changes in the first few rounds that make it work better. At least that has been my experience with three different new Kahr pistols.

Let us know how it works during your first range session. I suspect you will see some magic healing taking place. ;)

No mag, stupid me, this solved the situation when inserted now I can go shooting at the new indoor range here in town and try it out.

Thanks for your help BEARDOG

No problem, Your not stupid. You knew to ask for help when you had a question. Enjoy your new Kahr.

nothing stupid about it. We all get so giddy when we get something new and we may miss something that we would catch once all that excitement wears off. I had the CW9 before I traded it (I do miss it now too) for a CM9. I never had one single problem with the CW9 in probably 800 rounds. It is really one nice pistol and accurate too in my opinion. You're making me miss mine.

Well thanks for the help last night. I was able to make down to the newest indoor range, open about a month, today and shot 250 rounds through the CW9, without any FTF or FTE.

Over all I was happy with shot placement there where a few time I flinched and it showed, badly, but first four shots in the grey. Which for me considering the last time I shot a pistol was... wow 20+ years

Oh and cleaned without any problems in the re-assembly.
