I was at the range shooting my CM9 with some frangible ammo and the gun ran fine for the first three magazines. On the fourth half way through the mag. pulled the trigger and nothing. Rack the slide and another click. I then notice the slide was about 1/4" from being in battery. No big deal cheap ammo the guns may be getting dirty so I pushed on the back of the slide expecting the gun to be in battery but when I released the slide it popped back out of battery. I pull the mag out and look the gun over put the mag back in and trip the slide release, and it's about 1/4 out of battery. Once again I tried to push the slide into battery and it would pop back out when released. I unloaded the gun and racked and dry fired the gun several time reloaded and it ran fine for the rest of the box.
I never had an auto spring back out of battery once you manually pushed it into battery. When I got the gun home I stripped it down and found no problem and the gun wasn't very dirty. What would cause slide to pop out of battery?

My guess is that you had a couple of "push feeds" (rounds ahead of the extractor). If you had no issues with other ammo, I would suspect the ammo you were using at the time is the culprit. Other areas to check (that immediately come to mind) are the magazine and extractor.

New to Kahr & Kahrtalk. I came here trying to find a solution to a problem that sounds similar to your. I took my new CM9 to the range for the first time yesterday, and again today. It started acting up after the third shot. It would not eject the fired casing, and the slide seemed to stay about 1/4" back from closing. The slide did not want to rack back. I thought the gun was just overly tight. Today I noticed the curled part of the recoil spring sticking part of the way out of the hole for the guide rod on the front end of the slide. Picture is attached (I hope). You might want to check for this on yours. Any help from members with a cure for this will be greatly appreciated.

Ken, I didn't mention it in my prior post regarding failure to return to battery the first time at the range, but I had a less severe malfunction of the exact same type as yours. The end of the spring wasn't all the way out, but appeared in the way. Part of my problem was the slide stop working its way out because of a faulty slide stop retention spring. When I was tweaking the slide stop spring, I also expanded the final coil of the recoil spring slightly so that it fits a tad more snug in the end of the slide. That seemed to fix my issue entirely.

I don't know about curing it, but I twirl the spring a bit and watch to see if the recoil guide rod is centered in the hole from the front, and that no part of the spring is caught. Sometimes the spring wants to look like your picture so I just re-insert until it's correct. The loose end like that does go to the front.
I guess you could use two pairs of pliers to open up the last half coil a tiny bit, as Nathan has done.
Wynn:)
Thanks Nathan & Wynn. I will give both of these a try. I know that I am going to really like this little gun when it starts running right.

I always put the end of that recoil spring pointed up towards the barrel. I'm sure somebody told me this at some point as I always make a point of the position. Never seems to poke out. I think its up, I'm positive its up.

I've read that also, Bawanna. It does make sense if you picture the recoil end sliding down with the chamber end of the barrel. With the end of the spring pointing up it gets tighter against the slide whereas the opposite would happen if it were reversed.
I've not had that problem but would likely open that last half coil and be done with it. No concerns about where it points after that.
PS: Another thought is that if that little round end stays where it's supposed to how does the spring poke out? Make sure it's all tucked in when you reassemble the recoil spring. But I'd still open it up a tad.
