Hi,

I am relatively new to the forum and thought I would share my project. I own a P9 and a P45. I stumbled on the flush fit magazine thread (now 20 or so pages) and thought that looked like a great idea. I had originally planned to modify the Kahr mag, but decided to go the 1911 route. I found two different Kimber mags at a local store, the Pro with the removable base, and one with a welded base. The welded mag has a cleaner look to me and so as not to waste the removable parts I bought the welded ones. I wanted a truly flush fit in the end.

I cut off the bottom, shortened the tube, made a new base and welded it on. I modified the top of the tube to clear the slide, added the Kahr follower and spring, and notched the grip for the magazine. I am very happy with the results. I have not fired it yet but I expect no issues.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the other thread for inspiring me.

Now. Does anyone know of a 1911 style mag in 9mm that might work the same way in the P9? If not, I may have to modify at least one original mag to get a flush fit on that gun as well.

Mark

Welcome to KahrTalk!

You do some really nice work. I wish I had a fraction of the talent you exhibited in doing your mod.

Thanks. Retired engineer with a decently equipped shop and time on my hands to tinker.

Welcome to the forums onecoolfan!
That is some fine work you did there. There was(is?) a gent on one of the 1911 forums that does a similar mod on EMP magazines for a reasonable fee.
If you should decide do something similar for Kahr mags, I think you would find quite a few that would pony up for that service:)
Regards,
Greg.

BTW, while I don't know of any 1911 style 9mm magazine that will work in a Kahr 9mm, a ProMag magazine for Kahr 9mm pistols might be worth a try if you are going to replace the guts with Kahr parts.

Thanks for the kind words Greg.
He goes by the name of log man. I saw that thread as well. The problem with doing this mod is that the grip is modified. Cutting up a magazine is one thing, but cutting up someone's frame is quite another.

Now, why can't Kahr do that with ALL of their mags?

Hi Mark. Welcome and great work on those P45 magazines. If you want to try to boost the capacity to 7 and still have a good chance for lock back, you might try the Wilson Spring/Follower combo I show in the other magazine thread.

As far as a 9mm magazine goes, I assume you would use an Officer length mag as your basis, but I'm not sure since I do not own a P9. Midway has several options. If you want to cut the mags down, as you did with the .45 versions, your options get better with Commander and Govt length mags.

One of my local guns shops has a large selection of magazines. I plan to stop in there today or tomorrow and see if I can find something that might work. At this point I have no idea if 1911 9mm mags will work. I'm just hoping the Kahr 9's are similar to 1911's like the .45's are.

Also - I'm okay with the 6 round capacity. I feel a little more confident about using the Kahr follower and spring.
