Last night I finally got to sit down, and get ready to clean, and lube my new CM9. I followed all the tips I have heard and read on here, break down was easy, cleaning was easy, lubed the right parts according to the holy grail(the chart). I had a bit of a hard time with reassembly, took about 6 or 7 tries, that little slide stop is a PINA working it from 4 o’clock to 3 o’clock and getting that little half circle to fit just right.

Well got it back together performed function check and proceeded to start racking the slide while I watch TV. Seems to be sticking a bit and I will explain right where I feel it’s happening.. looking down on the slide, gun pointed away from you, the top right side of the barrel hood seems to be sticking a bit right in that corner of the slide, you know the one with the sharp hook like edge.

Is this part of the break in period, did I assemble it incorrectly? I was going to take tonight and put 100 rounds through her, and start to get a feel on how she likes to bite, but I will wait to see if I need to break her down again and start fresh after hearing from you guys.

For your own peace of mind, just field strip once more and reassemble with an eye toward good alignment of the recoil assembly. Have an equal amount of space on each side as it sits in the slide. While you have it striped, look for plastic debris or flashing. You may want to search YouTube to see someone else reassemble their Kahr PM9 or CM9.

Yea i am will be sure to break it down again tonight, i did remove some flashing, under the slide rail on the left side. i also made sure that recoil spring was centered, i will double check everything tonight

I think it's fine, just double check the re-assembly, lube it up well and go shoot it!;)
It will smooth up a lot after you get a few hundred rds. through it. That lock up area will get some forces put on it during firing that you can't really duplicate with hand racking.

BTW, I stoned that sharp edge on the ejection port down to a nice dull rounded edge, much nicer to feel and also much kinder to holsters.

just nhothnbg like shooting the gun for things to take care of themselves. Hand racking is nice but certainly doesn't represent the actual "fast" working of the slide when the boom thing happens. You have it lubed, u have it back right, now just gpo out and shoot it and see what transpiers. I would think in 50-100 rounds the gujn will start to feel different. I would suggest using fmj american brand ammo for break in in shooting. No sense in using expensive defense ammo until you feel the gun is where it should be.

SHOOT IT THEN REPORT BACK.

i agree with what other have said. i did the 500 hand cycles of the slide prior to shooting my cm9 and noticed minimal difference. after the first couple hundred rounds of actual firing the action was a lot smoother.

i've got 700 round through at this point and the slide is still fairly difficult to rack (comparing to larger sized autos of different brands), but at least it is smooth now. i don't know if the recoil spring just needs some more working out to really loosen up or if that is just the way kahrs are supposed to feel. either way, my gun has been flawless so it doesn't really bother me.

I was wondering about doing something for that, it's a heck of a edge

Just stone that edge off or use a little sand paper. Usually once you knock off the sharp edge it won't return again.

The thing about hand racking is that it starts the wearing of the slide inside upper (#6 on the lube chart) with the barrel hood top front edge. This reduces friction which can slow the slide causing feed issues. That's also why I preach to grease that area rubbing it in.

I don't know how much it affects the recoil spring. I do believe you should not rack it back, lock and release it empty. Those parts slam together pretty hard. And don't slip a snap cap (or other) into the chamber and release the slide on it. That can damage the extractor.

For dry fire practice, just pull the slide back a couple inches to ready the striker. It isn't supposed to hurt the striker to dry fire and this practice is encouraged for training.

as always you guys have been helpful. One question i have is you guys think oil is enough, or do you prefer grease or something like slide glide. My sigs I run kinda wet, M&P just enough, Kahr I don’t know about since the rails are mainly polymer.

I have been useing Weapon Shield oil & Grease for the past year

u need to answer one question: If ur gonna pocket carry, then the less liol running around in ur pocket the better. less lint gathering to. If u use the kahr lube chart in the kahr tech section, that photo tutorial is excellent and very descritive to.

I prefer TW25 grease over all else but anything you use is going to be better than nothing find whqat ur compfortable with as they are all good, and just stick with it. We tend to give comments based on what we use so take it with a grain of salt, as ur gonna get a dozen different suggestions and IMO all are great.

Shoot 100 to 150 rounds first time out, bring it home and clean it up, take it out and shoot it again and have some fun. you're gonna love it.

amen to that!!

what all have you had to replace after 30,000+ rounds through your pm9? i read somewhere that the recoil springs on these need to be replaced every 1k, which seems extremely low to me.
