I know there are some .22LR handgun fans on the boards that might like this news. Ruger sent me an email today announcing the SP101 in .22LR (8 shot). Here's a web link:

I want one!

One in .22 magnum loaded with the new short-barrel Gold Dots by Speer would be even nicer. I came close to pulling the trigger on a Taurus for that reason.
No snubbie yet.

I really like the grip insert. That's mighty stylish. I have the 22 6 shot version for the wife and it's a nice little gun.

A local shop got in a beautiful, older Model 15 snubbie the other day that I came very close to buying (still might if it's there today). I imagine the .22 LR version of the SP101 will be just a little bigger and a little heavier than my Model 63:

Those 6 shot .22 SP101's are very hard to find; seems those that have them hang on to them (an excellent testimonial in my book). Congrats on having one of those fine handguns Bawanna.

I got very lucky. One of the staff here a female admin supervisor had one and asked me to take it home and clean and oil it. My wife saw it and even though she's really not a gun person she said she liked it. I knew they were hard to come by but got hold of the shop we buy alot of dept stuff from and darned if they didn't have one brand new and shiney in stock. Had it set aside and drove up and got it the next day.
Here we can take possession same day if we have a CPL. I got up there and laid it on the counter and the guy said you know your CPL expires....long pause and then TODAY.
One more day and I would have had to make another 1 1/2 hour drive up to pick it up. Guess the planets were aligned on this one.

I used to have one of the 63's... nice little gun, but kind of lightweight.

If you want a little more weight, that SP101 might be right down your alley Wynn. I've got weight to spare with this puppy:

That's just a gem right there. Warms me all over just looking at it. Course that 63 had about the same effect. I think you've found my buttons.

Hey GB, thanks for the link. Beautiful firearm. Have been considering a .22lr revolver purchase for some time, and I really like the SP101 platform. But its pricey. Have been thinking about the Taurus Model 94 as an alternative. Its certainly cheaper and I like that its based on proven S&W models.

Wynn, do you have an online source for that ammunition? Not that I've looked all that hard, but I haven't been able to find it. Interested because an NAA mini mag is one of my carry guns.
Just a blast from the past....
As some may recall, the original SP-101 was offered in .38special and .22LR. The 22LR was a six shooter, with windage only adjustment on the sight. The sights were quite low profile. Cant remember the barrel length, and it may have been offered in two lengths, I cant recall.
Makes me feel good to see the .22LR come back, improved IMHO, with better sights and a nice barrel contour. Makes me sad that they dont offer the once popular 3" .38Special any more, but... you can always shoot .38's in the .357mag version (with extra elbow grease while cleaning).
New panels are GREAT - the original were GE Xenoy polymer - olive green. Quickly changed to dark green, brown then black. The brown are very rare, the green ones not too common either.
Guess the planets were aligned on this one.
No doubt what goes 'round comes 'round ol' son.

When I first heard Ruger was to offer a 22 version again I was extremely happy. This aint what I want but it can be turned into what I want.... Bawanna I wish I could run across what you have.
Mayhaps I will get lucky and someone with what I want will want this and make a trade.
Thanks but no thanks. I'll stick with my S&W M18-3.

Damn, that's a beauty right there too. Looks in fine shape too. Take good care of that one. No use trying to talk you out of that one, I can read between the lines and know it's not going anyplace soon.

I bought that M18 22 years ago from a friend who had a gun shop and took it in on trade.
I shoot it about once a year so it doesn't feel neglected in the safe. ;)

My wife shoots the M18 more than I do (pretty much her gun now). I have other pistols I prefer for punching paper/plinking and I prefer the size and weight of the M63 for carry in the field.

I wish I had a set of S&W magna diamonds for my M18 like you have on yours.
The grips on mine aren't original to the gun either. It came originally w/a set of Pachmayr rubber grips and the original owner couldn't locate the wood S&W grips. :(
