Has anyone heard of this organization or are a member of it - The National Association for Gun Rights? I got an e-mail from this organization that a friend forwarded to me. It is asking people to contact your representatives to tell them not to vote for the "National Reciprocity Act." The letter claims that by passing this legislation it could open the flood gates of gun control. It could eventually make the federal government the prime controller and regulator of CCW permits. They could dictate who gets the permits and what hopes someone will need to go through to get a permit. I wonder if this is a ploy by the anti-gun groups?

I said this from the get-go. As good as it sounds, I do not want the feds to make ANY decisions at all about permits and my right to carry. If they can say "yes", they can say "no" later.

I get the NAGR emails almost daily, and have for about a year or so. Not impressed at all with the "organization".

I don't buy what they are saying either. More os what I think a sales pitch to join and pay membership dues. I will pass.

Seems a little fishy. Remember the fake group the Dems set up a while back. Sporting Hunters Association or something like that? Who knows, perhaps this new group is okay, that just left me suspicious of any that pop up out of nowhere. The antis are tricky...

I think I understand how you feel but if they say "no" later then we're just back to where we are now, right? Do you have the same feeling concerning H.R. 218? My two brothers are both retired LEOs and I know a few others, all like and take advantage of carrying under 218.

NAGR has been around for awhile....long enough that they even "claim" credit for some of the latest successes with SCOTUS 2A cases, and accuse the NRA for not being effective. Any "organization" such as this will completely lose my interest when they refuse to work with other like minded groups for a common cause.

From what I've read in HR 822, it's a far cry from HR 218.

Bush signed HR 218 into law 22 July 2004. It set the basics for CCW by retired and active LEOs but left the actual mechanics of running it to the individual states as far as qualification, etc. It works.

The improvements to 218 signed into law on 12 Oct. 2010 by Osama did just that, improved what was lacking in the original version of HR 218.

NJ is still refusing to accept the fact that HP ammo is legal for retirees carrying in NJ from out of state. Currently, a retired LEO either from NJ or from out of state can not carry HP ammo.

I've carried under HR 218 since day one, again, it works. ;)

I don't trust this administration when it comes to HR 822. I don't need big brother getting any more involved in my means for self protection.

I got the same emal. I get one about once a week. I posted the content on the "National Right to Carry" thread. It's the last post on the thread.
They don't ask for money often, they ask you to contact your congress person, they are on the up and up. They are a good bunch as far as I can tell, you can check them out at: http://www.nationalgunrights.org/
Well I guess they do ask for money, but so does everyone else working to protect gun rights. I have about 50 emails from them and they all are on target. Some are calling to impeach Eric Holder, a lot were about that "Gun Walker" fiasco. Some are about Obama's gun control efforts. I'd suggest to get on their mailing list. They provide some pretty good information. And I've never sent them a dime.
You can read the letter they sent on the last post on this page:

I think they are on to something with the email, do we really want the Feds controlling our CC permits, pretty soon they'll make it a "May Issue" if you have a "need" and probably model it after NY city's permit process.
Please read the email and decide for yourself if you think it's a good idea or not.
