Picked up a copy of Handguns magazine last night and they did a comparison test between 5 mini 9mm pistols...The Kimber Solo,...Kahr CM9,..Springfield EMP mini 1911 design,...Sig P290,...and the Ruger LC9...The overall winner with 4 1/2 stars out of a possible 5 was the Springfield EMP because they liked the larger size (not a pocket pistol) and they all liked the traditional S/A trigger pull which really cant be beat...Number 2 was a surprise to me because I thought they were going to go all ga-ga over the Kimber Solo but number 2 went to the Kahr CM9 with 4 stars!!!...:cheer2:...As I remember 3rd went to the Sig 3 1/2 stars...4th and 5th were tied with the Solo and Ruger LC9 with 3 stars each...I think the Kahr and Springfield would have tied but the shooters all seemed to be long time 1911 guys and liked the larger size and platform better but all said the Kahr had a very good double action trigger...All pistols were about equal in accuracy and only the Solo and Ruger had a couple of FTF and stove pipes but then settled down and did ok...The only complaint against the Kahr was it only being shipped with 1 magazine but other than that I think it did real good against the other high end mini 9's on the market and at a great price!!!...

So a larger SA 9 mm beats out a smaller DAO pocket carry gun? What's the real objective of the tests?

getsome: I find that report interesting and TOTALLY surprising to me that kahr would place that high. I think anyone here would have said the kimber single action would be #1`, after that IMO I would have put the kahr one grade above the lc9. guess I would have failed that test.
nice report.

Yeah, really!? The EMP is too big for the test. I am miffed that the CM9 didn't get first place like it deserves! :31: Of course, if they had used a black PM9 with night sights it might have edged out the EMP. :third: (why doesn't this smily say 1 on the trophy?)

Thanks for the lead, jocko & jmurch! From what I have read thus far, the CM is slightly less in $$$, and the inside of the barrel is different. Other than that, basically the same gun. Great, FREE education on this forum. Thanks fellas!

Cause nobody but Bawanna gets to be #1.

Ge, what is the purpose of looking at mini-9mm handguns if you are going to go larger.
I prefer my G26, but the PM9 is a true pocket pistol.

+3... If they are going to compare small 9's... then throw a 26oz. 6.5" long SA EMP in the test, they might as well throw the G26 in there too as it is smaller, lighter, cheaper, larger cap. and IMHO better small 9mm... So I guess we just throw out the EMP and move the CM9 to #1 ;)

thanks for the heads up, i agree that the test might be a little biased. i may go try to find a copy of that magazine just to read the article. i guess its no wonder every almost every thread in this sub forum is dedicated to the cm9, seems to be quite the charming little pocket 9mm.

Man, only issue we had with the Kahr, no matter how many rounds we fired, that PM9 NEVER EVER loosened up. Wife can rack all the pistols listed except for the pm9.

True in my house, too! My break-in period is just about over, and I can tell a HUGE difference already. But, the wife still struggles with the rack issue. So, I've given her my Ruger SP101 .38 special. Much heavier, but need I say how much easier it is to **** and shoot? No FTF, FTE, or break-in periods needed for this great revolver!

Love the look and feel of the EMP, never shot one, little too rich for my blood, but as others have said it should not be in this side by side comparison. So by my ruling of the EMP being disqualified, the Kahr CM9 wins hands down. :D

Barrel is not the only difference between the CM9 and PM9. Along with the barrel, the sights, machining, extra magazine, engraving.
Sorry, just had to point that out.
I don't place much value in these tests when the range of guns is this out of whack.

out of curiousity, where did you find a copy of the handguns magazine and what issue is it? i've been looking at every store i've been to since reading this thread and can't find any place that carries it. i'm assuming you are talking about guns & ammo handguns magazine, correct?
