I finally broke down and picked up a PM9 to compliment my P380. After some well documented problems with P380, I wa a little concerned about trying my luck again. But Kahr seemed able to get my litlle 380 running good after one trip to the mothership, so I thought I would give it's big brother a try. I took about 3 hours of private instruction today and brought the PM9 along with my EDC (Dan Wesson CCO).

The first 100 shots were flawless, then a few nosedives made me neevous. I added some lube, cleaned the feed ramp, and worked on some one handed shooting, and more nosedives. I thought the worst, but then my instructor used it and it was flawless. I think I am always perfect, but I guess I was limp wristing. I wonder how many problems reported with these small pocket arms are user induced?

Good for you!! You had a problem and investigated the most common cause and found it true. It's not bad to have a shooter problem, only to deny it - but you stepped forward.

Sometimes these little pistols seem to need a machine rest to fire without jamming, but they sure vary. My PM45 "Boomer" was very easy to shoot when I first got it... after a trip back to bevel the stripper. Then It had to go back for another problem and they replaced the slide and then I had to really hold it and even concentrating, I still had some stovepipes and such. I gave up on it for CCW. Then I got them to replace the slide that was so lightly "engraved" you could hardly read the writing at a good angle under a light. It looked better but was still unreliable. Then it started eating or destroying magazines. Kahr duplicated that and could only stop that with a new frame... so now I got "Franken-Boomer" back and it's easy to shoot again... one-handed... either hand and holding it really loose and letting it rise... hard to induce a malfunction... I love it. Just had one more problem... soon after it returned, the danged nut flew off the end of the guide rod. Kahr sent me a new one, so all's fine and I'm working on getting my P40 to be reliable enough for CCW. It's Magna-Ported and a "BLAST" to shoot!

congrats on the pm9, many pistols are given a bad rap because of user error though sometimes there are mechanical issues its just nice to know if you have to send your pistol back it'll get fixed right(not always the first time).

Pretty much for my SD guns its shooting the SD rounds in the gun followed by a limit of 50 rounds ball ammo. With my light carry guns it was to easy to get tired and sloppy when trying to shoot much more in a single session.

Sometimes it seems like there is an un-sweet spot with limp wristing. Someplace between vice tight and goose loose...which both seem to work.

I can't trust a gun for CCW if it's so hard to shoot without FTE or FTF. An EDC should be an all-aspect shooter, because you won't have time to get a comfortable "machine-rest" in a gunfight, and the last thing you need is a gun that won't perform reliably... AT THE DANGED RANGE... when you're concentrating on doing everything correctly!

Not getting shot should be the first priority in a gunfight... that may be accomplished by taking out the bad guy first, but the situation will dictate what you must do first to survive. Often, that will be taking cover ASAP... pronounced "A SAP", not spelled out letter by letter... what a waste of time! :) A shot or two in the direction of the BG might increase your chances of reaching cover... and if you're real lucky and have trained to shoot tactically... not standing there and taking your time with paper targets that aren't shooting back... maybe you'll hit the bad guy, BUT you want to survive, so not getting shot is paramount... if you get hit badly or killed, your actions won't matter after that point and if anyone else needed your help... second best sucks in a fight for your life!

I get carried away!

I really don't think I'd be to concerned at the moment as it's a new tight fitting quality pistol and your new to shooting it. Bigger framed guns and smaller framed guns might still be guns but there a different animal all together when it comes to shooting them well. Just my experience shooting both , certainly nothing written in stone though.:D ENJOY
