Okay new to KAHR I can't pick up my new cw9 until next Thursday. And after years of keeping a weapon in my truck I'm finally gonna get my ccw next Thursday. So I was wondering I don't have it yet is the guide rod on the cw9 polymer. The ss guide rod is only 26 bucks so should I go ahead and get it before I even get the pistol in. Also has anyone bought the ported barrel from kahr. It looks like it's longer and I'm guessingnit would hang out. If anyone has pics of this please let ne see it. I'm interested in it.

Also new to KAHR and this site. I choose the KAHR CW9 over the WaltherPPS.

No. It is steel, just not SS.

The CW9 guide rod is steel. Buy stainless if you want... it is not a need.

It sticks out the front. Someone will soon post a pic.

If it's steel then I'm not gonna waste my money. How about the ported barrel any thoughts on that.

The CW9 is a 9mm gun and it is, like all Kahrs, noted for its low recoil. Its also noted for its compact dimensions, which make it ideal for a carry weapon. So, IMHO, use your money to buy extra mags and the Trijicon front sight (http://www.kahr.com/Sights/Kahr-CWCM-Front-Trijicon-Night-Sight.asp) to replace the plastic one.

Or use it for ammo or take your wife to dinner for letting you buy the CW in the first place.
The ported barrel does stick out, it has to since the slide isn't cut for it. In the future if you decide you want it ported, send it to Magna Port. It's cleaner looking, stays exactly the same size. You can send in just the slide and barrel and you'll have it back in about a week.
I agree the 9 doesn't really need porting but many here have done so and like it alot.
Flowers would be good, extra mags would be better, maybe a holster now that your gonna CCW. I'd do that, your wife will get revenge anyhow so why worry about it.

Thanks alot guys. Just can't wait to get it in clean it and break it in. Im not a big fan of spending money just because. The XD-40 I replaced with this was just heavy. Even though it was a sub-compact. Thanks for all the info. I would still lime to see a pic if one with the ported barell.

Welcome to the forum. :) Here you go. I did a Google search for "kahr cw9 with ported barrel pictures", chose one, saved it to my computer, logged into my free Photobucket account, uploaded it, copied the image link and here it is...

Sweet thanks. Looks cool I guess. I'm used to shooting my colt gold cup trophy and an XD-40 subcompact 40 s&w. So I'm hoping the 9 will be pretty tame. I've never owned a 9mm.

Of course I could always carry my most trusted sidearm. My 1956 high standard sentinel R-101 22 long rifle. My grandfather bought it new and used it as his do-all fishing, snake and whatever gun. High sentimental value for me.

I WAS thinking about the K40 with a ported barrel, NS, and CT grips, but the Magna-Ported P40 sounded more like something I could CCW as well. Still need the sights upgraded, but don't like the laser alternatives for P40s... ugly and in the way.

haved u got that P40 running right yet. as u \know, don't port it until it is dead nuts running right...I think anything u can do with a K40 (which is one hell of a nice gun) u can do with a P40 and be carrying far less, e xcept the CT grips--NO CANDO.

I don't "need" the laser, but I would like different sights. The weight savings over the K40 make it good for CCW... and the fact that it just drops into my PM9's MiniTuck, is all the more attractive, though the K40 would, too.
I just have a problem with the rounds not going into battery about 10% of the time now... annoying. I can duplicate that by pushing a round into the chamber angled upwards. It catches on something, but doesn't seem to be the nose of the bullet on the start of the barrel. I'll get around to posting that on my thread... getting off on someone else's now.

I have a High Standard Sentinel R-101 also. Mine was left to me by my father. He bought it at Sears in, I believe, 1955 or 56. I go and shoot it on Father's Day to honor him.

Hey that's my CW9, lol. It's changed since then. It's got grip tape in the serrations, still have the Hogue Handall Jr., got rid of the CT laser, still have the ported barrel on it and I put night sights on it. Just to let you I don't notice the difference between the stock and ported barrel when carrying so I carry it with the ported barrel.
LOL! Cool! I picked it because it is a good pic. How much difference in recoil do you experience with it?

Had you considered a Kahr in .40 S&W and having it ported? A nine is a step down from your XD-40. For civilian SD I'm very secure carrying 9mm but can understand why many folks carry .40, .357 and .45 for the extra snot.

Well in my opinion you just don't have to have the .40. I surged out with only .45 cal weapons. And the older I get the less necessary it seems. I mean what doesn't matter really. I can appreciate the stopping power. But I also just wanted a 9 mm. I can still carry something else if I like.

Well im having issue with accuracy. the trigger pull is so long. Just put another 130 rounds through it today. Up to 230 now with an initial cleaning and then cleaned after each range trip. I'm not used to the gun yet though. I ordered the ss guide rod. Just because mine looks like crap already all scratched up. And metal flakes on it after shooting. Thanks I may look into the barrel. And laser.

Well I got the SS guide rod. My wife did anyways saw I had been looking at it alot on web searches and figured it was cheap enough. Well I weighed them both and they both basically weigh1 ounce. But it looks cool.

What the heck is the difference in weight between the SS model and the original... grains or a few grams? I think the recoil "reduction" is just hype. Just stay with it's better looking and matches the rest of the gun... that's enough. Good grief!

Wynn. I weighed both they were the same. It's smoke and mirrors. Maybe there's a difference between the polymer guide rods and the SS. But still idk if it makes any difference.

I'm surprised that no one has made glass-filled, Teflon-impregnated recoil guide rods and touted them cutting the excess weight and lightening the carry weight with "Space-Age Technology"!:D
Dang! I might regret throwing that free idea out there!

Okay shot my cw9 today and the SS guide rod is awesome. I don't even have to aim anymore I just pull the trigger and it hits the bullseye. Best aftermarket add on ever.

Okay in my opinion here's how it is. If you have a 30,000 dollar carbon fiber bike I can see buying a seat that is really light. But do you need it for a huffy. Don't get me wrong I love my new CW9 but is a guide rod gonna make this gun any more accurate NO!! Is a ported Barrel that's 1/2 an inch longer NO!! Now however spending that 200 bucks on ammo and getting in some range time. YEA!!

It's like stickers on a race car. Each one is worth 5-10 horsepower depending on which school of thought you side with.

Now all that said. As a married man of twelve years I was not prepared to tell my wife she wasted 25 bucks on something that wasn't necessary. Not willing to tote that @$$ whipping.

Dang! That's what my idea was missing... carbon fiber space-age material with Teflon impregnated surface and end caps with designs and art for changing whenever your mood changes.
You could have a "Have a nice day" smiley face... or a deaths head... skull and crossed bones... whatever.:D
And... ONLY $200! Space age materials and all....
