Well, my little pistol is off to Kahr for warranty service.

I put 39 rounds through my gun this past Saturday, went to clean it after the range, and saw a crack in the slide. I have heard of this thing happening before, and also heard Kahr was making it right with people. I hope all turns out well with my gun.

The crack in just the slide-

Nice pistol. We have had one or two of those, but it has been over a year ago. Things like that are rare, but stuff happens... flaw in metal. I notice it has a good notch... my first thought... for the front of the recoil assembly the buck up and down with the barrel. Kahr will fix it though... and quickly I hope.

That's terrable. One beautiful gun though.

I'll give you my semi-educated 2c on that one...

The very rough finish on the inside of the recoil spring area suggests some bad tooling, worn tooling, which set up an inordinate amount of swarf at best, or just cut like crap (more likely). That situation set up stresses in the metal, which were exacerbated by heat treatment. Finally, the repeated shock or regular shooting was something that caused those stresses to seek relief... and they did, in the way of a crack.

Just my 2c. Surface finish can do a lot to metal, as also can corners that are too tight, odd angles to use-related stress, etc.

they will replace it but it sucks to, less than 40 rounds, no doubt bad metal in that area or weak as hell also, Still should not happen and I have seen this in the MK40 more than any other model kahr makes, not alot but we have seen it on this foru before. They also had some grip/frame cracking on thebottom of the mag well where it is kinda skelotonized. again sucks, They will replace your slide, which you can send back regualr mail if u so desire..

Kahr has this in their possession, they paid for shipping to them. This gun probably has about 2500 rounds through it. All factory, no reloads. Ever.

oh, ok, that tells me this is not a new gun of late. do u know how old it is???did u buy it new and about when. U might have been in that ear where some of the bad metal MK's got out. No way for kahr to know that until it is to late like in your case.. I mistread the 39 rounds as being new out of box and 39 rounds later BINGO.. sorry about that.

I notice the front of your grip starap is either sipled or that is stipplying tape. looks cool..:banplease:

The front strap is stippled.

I dig that stipling alot, looks great and makes a sweet grip surface.

A new slide and you'll be back on the track. No gray area here.

Thanks!

... you know... it would probably look really really sweet with some wood grips.

wink wink nudge nudge.

I'd love to build some knock your socks off grips for that thing. No winking or nudging required. I gotta renew my effort to get some frames to fit too. Several are waiting on me and I hate to make people wait.

how do u "dig" stippling??? Just asking, u know us northerners are alittle slow in this gun lingo.

I dig for worms. I dig my dogs grave, I dig my garden, but I have never dig stippling. Is there a special shovel or hoe for that. My neighbor down the street has alot of "hoe's" though. One is named Mary, another Rowenna, (makes me think of Bawanna) and of course sophie.

Received my gun from Kahr yesterday morning! Great turnaround. They said their lead-time was approximately 3 weeks, so to get it in 1 working week was awesome.

They replaced the slide and everything in it. There is a work order with it that details what all was replaced. I don't know if they put new night sights on it or not, but they are mepro's like what was on it when the gun was sent in.

The gun I sent in was a Elite 98, with the early generation slide, they sent back a new generation slide.

Shipping was paid both ways, and everything on the gun was covered by Kahr.

A+ support in my book.
