CM9 Front Night Sight Brightness

I purchased and installed the Trijicon front sight for my CM9 in July. Installation went like a breeze. At the time I wasn't all that thrilled with the brightness but not knowing, thought nothing further about it.

Just for jollies, I checked it today in a mostly dark room and allowing my eyes to adjust for a few, could barely make out a faint green glow on the sight.

Just how bright should these things be? In a panic situation, I am not sure I could even find this thing let alone line it up on a target.

What is the life expectancy on these? Shouldn't this sight be pretty easy to see?

Hoping my expectations aren't too high.

Do you have any other night sighted guns to compare it to? Or a friend or gun shop that have some you could go compare it to?

Here is a pic for what it's worth of my CW9 and CM9, both have the Trijicon front sight on them, and my Glock 26 that has XS Big dot's....The Big dots are slightly brighter and easier to pick up but that could be the different way they are designed as they all have Trijicon tubes. ???

I have 4 guns with night sights from XS, Mepro, and Trijicon and they are all close to the same brightness to my eye. I think these Trijicons may be mounted deeper in the sight and that slightly reduces the apparent brightness ???

It could be possible you got a bad one too, so you should try to go check it out against another night sighted gun.

I wrote to Kahr CS and described the problem. They're sending a replacement ASAP.
They want the old one back. Hope the Loctite releases ok.

Heat will release red loctite...A soldering iron to the head of the screw may help if you have trouble.

I didn't think mine were that bright either. But I don't mind that much. I got them more for the fact that they are metal. In an defensive situation I don't fell I'll be aiming using the sights but rather pointing.

it sucks only having 1 or 2 options to choose from in an aftermarket sight. i'm used to being able to take my pick from the dozens of choices that are offered for glocks. until kahr owners start expressing some interest in having other companies develop products, we will continue to have to settle for what's available. the trijicon sight does what its intended for, but in my experience is far from the quality of other brands i've used. plus the fact that kahr is stocking sights that were manufactured in '09 already takes 2-3 years worth of life out of the tritium. the service life of your front sight SHOULD be around 12-15 years, but they start to dim and lose brightness long before that.
