Just picked up my CM9 yesterday. Hadn't had time to clean it and do the recommended prep but will do that tonight. First things I noticed, my slide release is impossibly stiff. I've never used a gun with such a stiff and hard to press release. Second, my mag does not release or drop when I press the release button. I have to pull it out and can feel a good amount of resistance. *sigh*
I will be taking it to the range tomorrow to put about 240 rounds through it.

It will loosen up after you fire it a few hundred rounds. The mag will also loosen up after firing, well at least mine did.

Are you trying the slide release without a magazine in place? They are very hard like that. With a mag in much easier.
There is a thread to address the dropping mag issue.

I think on the Kahr website's faq they mention that it is designed so that the slide will be very difficult to drop using the slide stop on an empty magazine. Drop it on a full magaze or without a magazine and it should be relatively easy (and will get easier as it is broken-in).

break it in first meaning shoot it first before complaing. Alot of things work themselves out with rounds down range, what allthese guys said about releasing on an empty magazine is trur,e It is harder to do that way, as ur now pushing the follower down also. Book tells u that.
there are fixes talked about here to fix your magazine not dropping to, if that has to be a certainlty wityh you, then heed to some of the fixes stated on this forum. Don't send the magazne back in exchange either for you might jut get one back just like it. Many kahrs do not drop the magazine freely, These guys here can show u how to fix that veryeasily if thatis ur desire. Personally for me MY PM9 has never dropped the mags free since I bought it 5 years ago, and I kinda like it that way. It ain't gonna go flying all over hell if I accidently hit the mag button and unless ur gonna carry a spare magazine, then why care... But that is ur call to make, shoot the gun a fewhundred rounds, u might feel after that alot of things just seem to get smoother..

like the others have said, the slide release is extremely hard to operate with an empty magazine inserted. i believe there is even a sticker on the front of your user's guide explaining this.
as far as the magazine, load it up to full capacity and squeeze the top third with a pair of pliers. start just below the feed lips and work your way down to the 3rd hole, making sure to squeeze the entire area. use moderate force but don't squeeze directly on the front or back edges or on the feed lips. the rounds inside will stop you from over doing it. insert and see if the release is any better, if not to your liking continue to repeat the process until it gets better. i did all 3 of my magazines this way and they all drop freely now and maintain 100% reliability.

Thanks for the heads up. I do see that the slide release is easier to activate when the mag is either not in or loaded. First gun I've used that has that. Weird but I can deal with it.
I will clamp the mag slightly to get it to release a bit easier. I don't want it to drop all the way out but it has a good amount of resistance when pulling it out.
I'll do the prep work and check the mag spring tonight. Can't wait to get it out to the range tomorrow and report back how it goes.

After shooting around 700 rounds, my CM9 loosened up just fine. Resonable to rack, release is acceptable.
Now, I can take it apart without some hard surface for the pin!
I have not trouble with shooting several hundred rounds straight without any soreness. Recoil just a little bit more than my G26.
And, I am able to shoot it MUCH better with three inch groups at seven yards.
Pretty good for a 74 year young guy!
Great forum! I lurk a lot.

after fixing your mags, if you don't hold in the mag release it won't fall freely out all the way. if you do hold it in, it will fall freely. have fun shooting tomorrow. also, change your username :D
