View Full Version : Log In Time Limit

Is there a stay logged in time limit?
Numerous times I find myself logged out. Usually I don't realize it till I want to add to a posted thread. It says Welcome MBFD and the Log Out which to me indicates that I should still be logged in.

Yesterday I had typed up a new thread and when I hit the Submit it said that I was not logged in. I lost my typed up thread - errrr.
I retyped it in Word, logged in and copied it to a new thread.

Remember I'm just a displaced Missouri dirt farmer but I occasionally experience that. There really isn't a log in time limit but sometimes the internet cyber wolves or whatever they are kick you out. I was missing a lot of info and not seeing things using Explorer, (not that Ponce De Leon fella or Columbus or anything but the little search engine that couldn't that lives in my computer.
I'd tried the little Firefox dude before and because he was different I got frustrated and went back. I had some other issues and John recommended I try the little Firefox dude again and alas my issues went away. It's a new trick for an old dog but I'm getting along ok.

I hope this weren't to technical for ya, I try to stay humble on this computer gee willikers stuff.

I'm sure Justin, or JohnH probably got a more meaningful explanation that I wouldn't understand two words of but maybe you would.

Short answer is no time limit, ask my wife.

Would you go through that one more time, Bawanna?

Would you go through that one more time, Bawanna?

I wish I could but I'm plumb tuckered after all that heavy thinking stuff.

It's something to do with Vbulletins and some of them searchers not getting along. Maybe like spanish and french wasting their time trying to prove the world was flat. What did they ever decide on that, haven't heard.

Well now look what you done to me. I formulated a few of my highly intelligent and helpful responses only to have the crystal ball tell me I had an 404 error, almost like the heartbreak of psoriasis I'm thinking. How could psoriasis start with a "P", don't make a lick of sense.
Anyhow I hit the back button and it took me back to where I was and when I hit the post button again it worked just fine and dandy.
Just did the same thing on a PM response and it was pretty quick, (I can type real quick for a manly Missouri farm boy) so it wasn't a time issue I don't think.
Maybe I'm the one who needs help here after all.

Jocko will be along momentarily to tell me I'm exactly right on needing help, I can always count on him.......

I havenever ha dit happen here but it has happened many timnes before on some of my other forums. I guess they are sending me a message???? I am joined at the hip with Bawanna, so if he goes , I go..Odd thing about this was that we were not joned at the hip by birth, we just like each other so fokking much that we just did it. Mind u,no hospital was involed. we both got drunk one night (feel no pain) and we sewed ourselves up at the hip (17# test Stren fishing line). Not a bad thing but when one has to take a dump, it kinda puts the other in a no win position...

I'm absolutely positive without reservation that that is the nicest thing anyone has ever said about me.
This would conclusively explain Jocko's left handedness and my right handedness and me always having to ride in the darn side car. Somethings in life just aren't fair, I wanna drive once in a while.

I don't know of a time out. I've left it up in the middle of a post and gone to dinner and it's been right there waiting when I returned. So, I'm going to guess the answer is no.

Of course the answer is conditional on you accessing the internet directly from your browser, without an AOL or other service in between. I think some of those have timeouts.

PS: If you haven't, you might want to check the remember me box at log in.

I'm not sure but I think that is what I was trying to say in my informative post earlier, I forgot that Browser word. As usual you said it so much nicer and understandable than me. I sometimes don't even understand myself.
The little firefox and the explorer are browsers right. No that can't be right, you said direct from your browser without AOL which is apparently a foreign spy agency or service in between. Crap I feel a headache coming on again.

Yup.... AOL (aka "Организация американских шпионов") is a spy organization that lures unsuspecting users, especially those who have limited experience, into a web where they end up telling you.... "Do not adjust your monitor..... You are entering the AOL Twilight Zone."

Worst part is even if you want to escape (and everybody eventually does) they have embeded little applications that grab what you are doing and makes it disappear. A sure sign is when you have typed out a post and hit the submit key and it disappears. Sometimes some music starts playing, sometimes not.

I tried to save some relatives but couldn't get them out in time. I didn't even get to say goodby before they were swept into the darkness.

You should not be getting logged out. Not sure what is happening with that. Does it matter what browser you use?

Just to add my 2¢, I have found the Mozilla Firefox browser to work much better than Internet Explorer here, formats pages better and stuff. I have never gotten logged out. Only thing is, it seems that, lately, it has been getting real slow to load a lot of Web pages. Of course, Kahrtalk always takes quite a few seconds, but that isn't where I am encountering difficulty. On a lot of other websites, it seems to get stuck trying to load a page and I have to hit F5 2 or 3 times to get it fully loaded and displayed. Do any of you Firefox users have this problem? Often, I'll switch over to IE and it will display the page in a snap. I have wondered if this is a problem with the latest versions of Firefox, or if it has gotten gommed up with a lot of hidden add-ons and app extensions, it having been my primary browser for 2 or 3 years, now?

I have the same problem with getting logged out after a short time. I'm using Firefox 6.0.2
As a test , I logged in 10 minutes ago - lets see if this one goes through or if I have to log in again.

Heres a question for you computer savy folks. I'm using Firefox, didn't know there was different numbers. Last night I'm on my little mini lap top using firefox and I decide to watch the girl, squirrel, dog video that I believe Aray posted.
Well it tells me I don't got the latest mud hut adobe acrobats and I need to update, so I tell it you know what I need, give it to me, well it got all confusing and stupid so I figured I don't need to watch the video anyhow.

BUT when I go back I log into kahrtalk, my homepage on the laptop, it lets me log in, says welcome bawanna, your are a rock star, well ok it didn't say I was a rock star, but then it kicks me right back out. Did that several times. So I do the reboot thing (thats the turn it off, turn it back on thingy in case theres anyone slower than me. No love. So I go back to explorer/google? and it worked there.

I'll be playing again tonight trying to fix my little firefox, confusing little mother that he is.

Any ideas? Remember use small words and pictures are best, I'm pretty simple on this computer stuff.

I'm not sure about this particular problem, but I like to pick when and where I do these Adobe Flash updates and the like... from trusted sites, certainly not at some random site. Lots of untrustworthy sites will try to fix you up with something besides the factory updates. It's like risky sex without a condom.

Crap, I didn't see that part. You think they was trying to have their way with my laptop without protection. Sneaky bastards. Maybe they thought my firefox was hot?

Sometimes I put on my "rain suit" and galoshes, then go "private" browsing... eliciting warnings and admonitions form my Norton Internet Security Suite... just like my Mom used to give me... no switches, though.:D

Sometimes, I would get those scary things where there's a horrible noise like "battle stations" on Navy ships, and a big screen full of warning about "Malicious Site" or the like! I don't usually continue in areas like that. It's kind of like going down Bourbon Street and popping into each bar... there may be a bad experience facing you immediately in some.

Maybe a lot worse area or section of town than the touristy Bourbon Street, though.

I went back through some settings and kicked the inactivity setting up quite a bit. It may be that for some users, their browsers are not being seen as active by the forum software as it should be. This should at least delay the logout in those cases.

Nah. Just use Photobucket and post pictures as big as you want, with none of that slow as a snail waiting for the thumbnail picture to display, small as it still is.

Hey Bawanna!

In the FireFox "Help" menu you will find a choice for "check for updates". FireFox will offer the latest version. After installation it will probably tell you you need to download the latest version of Flash and provide a valid link and instructions.

If that does not work, you can uninstall the existing program, download a new copy, and start over. You may lose your BookMarks and saved passwords, but otherwise it should get you back to "normal".

If you need more information, send me a PM including the version of Windows on that machine and I can send you cookbook style instructions.

Hey thanks Tucson, whatever the malady was I seemed to have cured it or managed to work around it. All is well in kahrtalk land so all is right in bawannaville.
If it comes down to the cookbook style instructions I'm gonna have to get bigger pans or chop this sucker up into smaller pieces, I don't reckon it'll fit the way it sets.
I did after months of monkeying around manage to get the AVG Free installed and working. I think I had something else that was argueing with it or something.
Alls well for the moment this very second, I'll try to savor it.
PM inbound to ya on another matter.

Yeah, thanks John! And they are already displayed; I don't have to wait for them to appear, then click on one and wait 30 seconds for it to display, click next and wait 30 seconds for it to display ... Whew! :7: Now, if you can just find an animated smily that portrays uncontrolled laughter, I'll nominate you for President! We so need such a smily on this forum.

Don't recall . . . it's been on my FTP server since 2006. It did come from one of the other forum bulletin boards I frequented at one time or another, hence the almost correct sizing.

Most likely, you can grab it from my message and put it in your Photobucket account and use as you like.

I also kind of like this one, but it is a little large and does not have a proper transparent background. It dates back to 2007.

I'm curious which ones you want missing? Might be kind of exciting with some new ones. I find myself not using them as much in recent times. Not sure why. Perhaps it takes away from my meaningless drivel typing time, which shouldn't be wasted I guess.

That's my favorite by the way, I think it was thunk up with me in mind.

Just as a test I fired up Opera and it looks ok here.
I know that Opera is almost unheard of but that means the hackers won't bother with it.
