Well, we are FINALLY gotten all the stuff on jlottmc's gear list...Man, that is expensive, but it's worth it. The Police Academy starts Monday night for about a year. It's been one stressful week trying to get everything organized. One thing on the list is the weapon of course but it has to have 3 magazines and a level II retention holster for the specific gun AND a training (red or blue) gun. We were looking at the Glock, we have GT distributors here in Dallas and he could get one for under $400.00. GO figure they were on back order. Not that I'm surprised. Glad I called to see how many magazines come with it. Ended up getting a Beretta PX4 Storm. He seems to like it but he is going to have to get used to some of the new features.
I'm so proud of him that he's gotten into the Academy. It's been a LOT of work and money but it's worth it. Jlottmc will be more marketable whenhe graduates and gets his TCLEOSE license.

Congratulations to you both. I'm so happy for you guys. I know it's a long course and all of it won't be boring.

from somewhere in cyberspace......
"He passed it just fine. They didn't give him the results, but he got accepted so I guess it was okay. Took them forever to get him the results over to the academy but it finally got done.
Are you the one that is on Kahrtalk too?"
yes:D

Academy is a lot of work but likely not as bad as Marine boot camp. When my son went the DI was an ex-Marine DI and could outperform everybody else without breaking a sweat.
Just a tip from my son..... When shooting the bad guy holding the hostage, be sure to focus on the bad guy and don't think about the hostage. My son drilled the hostage repeatedly until the weekend when his cop buddy worked him through it.
There's an old story about the boy riding his first bike and trying to avoid a rock in the path. He told himself over and over do NOT hit that rock and stared at it to make sure he missed it. You got it, no matter what he tried he couldn't stop himself from running right over it. You hit what you focus on, so focus on the bad guy.

Thanks all, I'm going to try to shoot the new toy tonight. This part time academy is going to be all right. I've heard it said that getting in is the hardest part, we shall see about that, but no worries. Again, thanks all.

What model and caliber? I just looked up PX4 Storm and there ARE 3 calibers and 4 or 5 models. I hope the caliber starts with a .4!

Four inch bbl, and yes Wynn, it starts with a 4. Ends with a zero too. You know I don't mess with anything less than a 40, except my 357's, which is a whole other can of worms. Though now that I think about it I have 7.62x25 (even the little hollow points for that one) and 22, as well. But with 4 .40's and 5 .45's 2 .357's in the house, BUG/off duty qualification day is going to be a booger. I think I need a bigger truck to tote all that ammo. Sheesh, does it ever end?
BTW, love the poster. I see that the same place (patriot nation) has my avatar as well. Guess the cat's out of the bag with the caption on that one.

I took the Beretta out last night, 150 rounds in less than an hour. Here's the results: magazines have some stiff springs, but that's not that big a deal. One failure to lock the slide on empty on the very first magazine. That is likely my fault. That gun went bang every time, and put the rounds where I pointed it. I shot at 3,7,15,20, and 25 yards. That pistol was just plain boring. In a little while it will have another 1000 rounds through it, and will be carried for at least the academy, and likely for SD as well. We all know that I change carry guns frequently to maintain proficiency, so yes the Beretta will see the rotation, as well as being on my hip in the academy and perhaps beyond.

Just any excuse for a new play toy. :D
Well, 4" barrel narrowed that down to one model... the full-sized.

And I love that "U.S. Marine Logic" poster... no fooling around... just get the job done. I kind of picture you as that kind of guy.
