GSSF match today. What'd you guys think I shot? LOL! It was a lot of fun even though I pretty much sucked. At least I won't have the worst score of the match because there was a guy shooting one handed because his other hand was in a cast. :o This was supposed to be the biggest match of the year with close to 1000 shooters. So, I may win something in one of the random drawings. They give a way pistols, money, Glock knives, and membership extensions. I'll definitely be going again when a match is in a reasonable distance.

Tell us more. We need details, which gun, what kind of shooting, anybody give you crap? You know all the important stuff for those who need to know.

I don't even know how you did but I'm already proud of ya. I'm kind of chicken to sign up for matches, probably afraid of looking stupid or something.

Tell us more.

OK...I shot the G26. There are three stages in the match that can be shot in any order. I started with "Glock the Plates". There are six 8" steel plates set out at 11 yds about an inch or two apart. You get 11 rounds to knock them all down. You do this 4 times. I only had one clean run where I killed them all in 12.13 seconds. :( Each run is timed then they add 10 seconds for every plate that you don't knock down. I left 7 plates standing.

The next stage I shot was "5 to Glock". This stage consists of 5 paper targets set out at 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 yards. You are supposed to put two rounds on each target. Again, you are timed and you get penalties for hits that are not in the A or B ring. You have 10 rounds to shoot the targets. There are three rounds of this stage.

The last stage is ""Glock'M". This consists of 4 paper target at 7 and 15 yards. Then there are three steel poppers at 11 yards. You are supposed to put 2 rounds on each of the paper targets and knock down 1 popper. You have 11 rounds to do this. There are 3 rounds of this stage. Again you get penalties for anything not in the A & B ring or poppers that are left standing.

I shot the whole match in 111 seconds, but had to add 234 penalty seconds. Really, I should fall in the middle of the pack according to past match scores.

Melissa sounds like you did great for your first match. Keep going and it will get better.
Just to go and finish the match makes you a winner.

LOL! Barth, I had to shoot a Glock as this was a Glock only match...sponsored by Glock. You should take your EXO to a match.

I could see center hits actually being counter-productive...no leverage. Bravo to you for going and giving it a shot (pun).

EDIT: Read it again and now see that you meant 7 of 24 were left standing after up to 44 shots. Right?

Thanks! I did see some low hits on the plates that didn't knock them down. Not during my run though. I think I just got all excited and missed them. Also, I've read where some people use 147 gr on the plates and 115 gr for the rest of the match. I was shooting 115 gr. Maybe I'll use 124 gr next time.

Yes, 7 out of 24 were left standing.

Funny how you ended up at a Glock Only match -LOL!
As for my EXO G27, my twin Glock factory 22 round mags haven't arrived yet - Woo Hoo!

Update: I just ordered a third from Lone Wolf - The Power of Three!

LOL! I've got a couple of the 33 round mags. Don't think I'd want to shoot a match with them though.

Good for you Melissa. For many of us competition adds some pressure, having experienced that pressure might very well help in a SD situation. I'd guess that there are indeed other skills that are honed in competition that can be transferred to a SD/HD situation. Did any of the shooting you describe start with a draw from the holster?

No, the pistol had to be angled toward the ground. I started from high compressed ready. The competition would help with transitioning from target to target and focus. I found out that as soon as the buzzer signaled me to start shooting, my focus was totally on the the targets/front sight. The noise and everything else was blocked out. One of my mag extensions pinched me pretty good and I didn't notice it until about 10 minutes later.
