View Full Version : Any recommendations for a good AR-15 Forum?

Been lurking around here for a couple of weeks, and enjoy the company. Getting back into shooting since I retired from the Army, and am enjoying learning about the civilian weapons by hanging out on a few good forums. Definitely like the crowd here, but haven't found a good forum for my AR-15 information (never realized how much I didn't know about all the variations to my venerable M16A2). The biggest one I found isn't a very friendly place, with too many folks worried more about looking good than practical weapons. Just wondered if you guys had any experience with an AR forum that's long on info and courtesy, and short on mall ninjas?
Thanks,
Greg

This is the best I've found as far as no mall ninja mentality:

AR15.com is chock-full of mall ninjas. I don't know about the link above me. I use www.m4carbine.net (http://www.m4carbine.net) - mainly law enforcement and current/ex military. Lots of knowledgeable guys, but they're very picky about quality ARs. I suppose since so many depend on them for their life, they have the right to be. If you're looking for an inexpensive paper puncher, this isn't the sight for you. However, if you spend most of your time lurking or asking technical questions, you'll be surprised by the wealth of information there.

Will check out the last two when I get home... my employer blocks sites they recognize as weapons-related... :O
There probably is value on AR15.com, but it's hard to find amongst all the photos threads, and arguments about what's the latest tacticool gizmo.
LMT42: I'm a believer in quality, as long as they don't get silly about all the add-ons. I like my box-stock Colt.

I do some stuff for a couple vendors on AR15.com. Stick to the industry areas for info from specific companies and you will do fine. Also the EE is great for good deals on guns and gear. At least to keep up on who has what in stock. I like M4Carbine.net a lot. I need to get an account there one of these days.

You'll fit right in then. It's not the friendliest site, but I think that's partially a good thing, as they run off the AR15.com tacticool types.
Sorry to be hard on AR15, as there is a lot of knowledge there too. However, as someone has already stated, you have to parse through a lot of crap to get to it. It's much easier to find solid info at M4, and if someone is full of it, they're promptly called out.
