Hello all, new here.

I just received a new CM9 that I have been looking forward to for some time. My first impressions were great but the mags would not drop free. After sanding the ribs inside the mag well a bit, they now drop free. So, today I go to the range to break it in with 200 rounds. I can not get more than 2-3 rounds before the slide locks back. Sometimes this happens after every round, sometimes after 2 rounds, but no more than 3 rounds. Here's the kicker...the slide lock is NOT engaged. I can drop the mag free and the slide will remain locked to the rear. If I hit the rear of the slide it will snap into battery. I have taken it apart numerous times, cleaned, lubed, etc. and after 200 rounds it is STILL doing this. Has anyone else experienced this and could my sanding the ribs inside the magwell have caused this?

Any help appreciated.

Thx.

Sanding inside the mag well should not effect the slide lock issue.

When you drop the mag, the slide lock is still down, it's not pushed up by a round. That's what it sounds like. The bullets are hitting the slide lock.

If it indeed isn't engaged I'm not sure what the heck is going on.

You can't duplicate the slide lock manually without firing can you?

Are the polymer guides for the slide chewed up? Or the small metal guides at the back of the frame?

You don't make it clear if there is a round hung between the mag and the chamber, typically jammed nose down between the slide and the lower part of the ramp.

IF this is your scenario, it often happens during break-in when a gun hasn't been properly cleaned and lubed prior to shooting. There are a couple threads in the Kahr-Tech Forum for "Proper Preparation of New Kahrs" and a "Kahr Lube Chart."

Please follow those instructions and be sure to rub grease into Lube Point 6 and make sure the ramp is shiny and rub a dab of grease into it, and same for the inside top of the chamber lip.

Lube Point 6 is a high friction point during break-in caused by the slide rubbing on the top of the barrel shroud. Both should be smooth and if you take a notion to buff something point 6 is first.

As for the ramp and chamber, rounds come out of the mag, hit the ramp and kind of bounce into the chamber bouncing off the inside top edge. It needs a full force of the slide closing to make it happen reliably plus a smooth path.

You have a great gun and it will eat ammo like crazy once the action is smooth. That's why the break-in is so critical.

I sure wish u would have come here first before sanding the ribs inside the mag well. once gone, cannot ever be replaced. We had an easy fix for that. Now it is hard to tell which came first the chicken or the egg. We know how much u removved inside the mag well or even if u did it right..

In addition to what the others have posted, check that the recoil spring is oriented correctly on the guide rod assembly (larger/open end towards the muzzle):

Thanks everyone for the replies. I may not have been clear. The slide will lock back in full recoil but the slide lock is NOT engaged and the slide has NOT started forward to grab a round yet for loading. It does extract reliably, just locking to rear. I have read the Kahr lube points and have been cleaning and lubing about every 6 mags during break in. I have 200 rounds through this pistol, going to give it another go this weekend with 100 rounds. If it is still not working I will have to call Kahr.

Thx again.

That should have been your first course of action with a new pistol that is under factory warranty. ;)

Yeah Jim, my Dad always said I was hard headed. ;)

Today I went back through the gun, cleaned/lubed as described on the sticky and started working the slide to 500 repetitions. If I rack it hard, I can feel it slightly catch when all the way back, no mag mind you. At about 365 reps it finally locked back on me. I'm going to try and take some pics and post them here.

Thx again.
