I've been cheatin on you all, been spending a lot of time at the Dan Wesson Forum. Lot of nice guys over there too, one even lives down a road a piece. He offered to trade me a set of Hougue rubber grips for an item to be determined, possible some of my 125 gr HP .357 rounds I picked up. And he has a shooting range out in his back lot.

Sounds like an awfully good guy to have as a friend. A nearby back lot shooting range is a very very good thing.

Not sure on this Hogue rubber grip talk though. That sort of leave a bad taste in my mouth although they do feel really good in the hand. Just no cool factor.

It really starts to cool down out in the desert this month, so I'm feeling festive. Here are some sword dancing links for you. Some are not the best quality video, but I liked them. They are not all in the same vein and most reflect something of a people's culture/life style. I've grouped and titled them as I saw fit. This is probably not a very accurate way of classifying them, but should be close enough (or prove I've no idea what I'm blabbering about).:)

Greg

My wife was a belly dancer with the local dancers in Wichita. They did quite a bit of sword dancing. Always very entertaining. Of course with that many women together you're going to get cat fights and such, and my wife's best friend broke away from the troupe and my wife quit dancing. Shame, those girls were a lot of fun to party with. We had some great 4th of July pool parties at my farm when they were all together, nothing like a dozen belly dancers in your pool to liven things up. :D

Bawanna, those Hougue grips sure ain't pretty, but they sure feel nice in the hand and soak up a lot of recoil. They sure ain't going on the Pistol Pack pistol, but I'll put them on my carry gun for when I get my farm house back.

Here's a pic of the ex in one of her more modest belly dance outfits:

This is a touching story -Just when you have lost faith in human kindness, someone who teaches at Kean Elementary in Wooster , Ohio forwarded the following letter.

The letter was sent to the Principal's office after the school had sponsored a luncheon for the elderly. An old lady received a new radio at the lunch as a door prize and was writing to say thank you. This story is a credit to all humankind.

Dear Kean Elementary:

God bless you for the beautiful radio I won at your recent senior citizens luncheon. I am 84 years old and live at the Sprenger Home for the Aged. All of my family has passed away. I am all alone now and it's nice to know that someone is thinking of me. God bless you for your kindness to an old forgotten lady. My roommate is 95 and has always had her own radio, but before I received one, she would never let me listen to hers, even when she was napping.

The other day her radio fell off the night stand and broke into a lot of pieces. It was awful and she was in tears. Her distress over the broken radio touched me and I knew this was God's way of answering my prayers. She asked if she could listen to mine, and I told her to kiss my ass.

Thank you for that opportunity.

Sincerely,

Agnes Baker

You have to know and observe the customs of other lands... within reason. It is easy to give insult when you meant none... ignorance is not bliss. If you want to conduct diplomacy and get favorable results without the use of force, you must know and respect the "rules" of conduct.

Respect and friendship in other lands might be men holding hands and even kissing. A lot of cultures kiss... men to men, though not "French-kissing", as greetings.

Our head of state does not bow to foreign kings or rulers, though, as Obama did on several occasions. Bush was very respectful in diplomacy, but left no doubt that he was a leader, not bowing or kowtowing to anyone. He wasn't a standoff ignorant ass, either. He learned the appropriate behavior or was advised on customs and proper respectful conduct... and was a very good sport about it.

This in today's news:
==========
A huge hole that appeared in the Earth's protective ozone layer (http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/ozone-layer) above the Arctic (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/arctic) in 2011 was the largest recorded in the northern hemisphere, though the sudden appearance of the hole was not due to man-made causes, scientists said in a report on Monday.
==========

See what happens when you reduce ozone emissions! Now there's a shortage of ozone in the atmosphere and it's all All Gore's fault. Is this another "inconvenient truth"?

I think that I've read where we humans are responsible for about 3% or the greenhouse emissions at best. The rest are caused by nature... volcanic activity... the evaporation of water by the sun, and so forth. If people stopped all emissions it would have little effect and the temperature would still go up a bit, as it has alternated between ice ages and hot spells for the last 4.5 BILLION years!

I didn't post to say that... wanted to post a link for shooting locks... it's a lot harder than movies or TV would have you believe.

We mail our CCW applications and renewals in down here in sunny Florida. I took a class at a gun show back in '97 because it was a one-stop deal with a sheriff's employee there to do the fingerprints. We got the application and the fingerprints there so we could mail the whole shebang(gun term?) in. There was no gun handling then, and I only needed proof of military service, not the class, to get a license, but getting it all at once was attractive and handy.

I just need a notarized application along with a new passport picture to send in for renewal... for 7 years last year.

It was harder last year to renew my danged driver's license... with all of the new requirements from Homeland Insecurity and all. I needed my old driver's license, my birth certificate, my Social f'ing Security Card, I had my military ID, and I needed TWO freaking pieces of mail with my current address on it... like bills or something. I had the renewal envelope for one and they wouldn't take a Harbor Freight Tools flier that I found in my van with the address on it. I couldn't believe that crap. I had a copy of my Amateur Radio Station License, which a supervisor looked at and said that would do! It cost me $7.50 just for the employee's time, too!

I renewed mine by mail the last time, but I don't think they'll let me next year. Something about at my age they have to check my eyes. I wonder if they'll accept a note from my eye surgeon that I now have 20-20. I hope they don't need a SS card - I haven't seen mine in 25 or 30 years.

I do my bi-annual CCW class with quals Saturday so I visited the range today. I'm ready. I found when I really focus I can shoot well (for me). I'll never be what I was but still, if some 3' wide smart alec bad guy wanted to mess with me at 10' he may regret the notion. Okay, I was putting them in an 8" group at 7yds which is qual distance. The target for quals last time was a plain white sheet of copy paper. Any hit on it counted as perfect and obviously the qual was pass fail.

The instructor is a retired Treasury Agent and Federal Marshal. He is down to earth and not full of himself requiring only what the state does. I've heard others require shooting a course and score it tight so some fail. I suspect then they sign them up for shooting training.

I have one problem with the thought of Newt Gingrich as president. Imagine him and his family being announced at a formal affair... "Please welcome Newt Gingrich, and his sister Salamander, and his little brother Tadpole!" I know, he's a brilliant man. But why was he named after a primitive amphibian?

There are some strange names in D.C. A grown man that went by the name Scooter. With a name like that, he might as well have had "patsy" tatooed across his back. Of course, we had Anthony Wiener. Turned out to be a fitting name. And then there is the speaker of the house. I'm sorry, but his name is not spelled Bane-er. It is Boener. There is no way that O is silent. So, his name should correctly be pronounced Bone-er! Sorry, but them's the facts! :w00t:

Bank of England Head: World Facing Worst Economic Crisis Ever
Thursday, 06 Oct 2011 09:23 PM

Sir Mervyn King was speaking after the decision by the Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee to put £75billion of newly created money into the economy in a desperate effort to stave off a new credit crisis and a UK recession, the Daily Telegraph (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/financialcrisis/8812260/World-facing-worst-financial-crisis-in-history-Bank-of-England-Governor-says.html) reported.

“This is the most serious financial crisis we’ve seen, at least since the 1930s, if not ever. We’re having to deal with very unusual circumstances, but to act calmly to this and to do the right thing.

“The world economy has slowed, America has slowed, China has slowed, and of course particularly the European economy has slowed,” he said. “The world has changed and so has the right policy response.”

On the first day, God created the dog and said, "Sit all day by the door of your house and bark at anyone who comes in or walks past. For this, I will give you a life span of twenty years."

The dog said, "That's a long time to be barking. How about only ten years and I'll give you back the other ten?"

And God saw it was good.

On the second day, God created the monkey and said, "Entertain people, do tricks, and make them laugh. For this, I'll give you a twenty-year life span."

The monkey said, "Monkey tricks for twenty years? That's a pretty long time to perform. How about I give you back ten like the dog did?"

And God, again saw it was good.

On the third day, God created the cow and said, "You must go into the field with the farmer all day long and suffer under the sun, have calves and give milk to support the farmer's family. For this, I will give you a life span of sixty years."

The cow said, "That's kind of a tough life you want me to live for sixty years. How about twenty and I'll give back the other forty?"

And God agreed it was good.

On the fourth day, God created humans and said, "Eat, sleep, play, marry and enjoy your life. For this, I'll give you twenty years."

But the human said, "Only twenty years? Could you possibly give me my twenty, the forty the cow gave back, the ten the monkey gave back, and the ten the dog gave back; that makes eighty, okay?"

"Okay," said God, "You asked for it."

So that is why for our first twenty years, we eat, sleep, play and enjoy ourselves. For the next forty years, we slave in the sun to support our family. For the next ten years, we do monkey tricks to entertain the grandchildren. And for the last ten years, we sit on the front porch and bark at everyone.

Life has now been explained to you.

There is no need to thank me for this valuable information. I'm doing it as a public service. If you are looking for me I will be on the front porch.

NBC Poll: Cain Leads Romney, Republican Field
Wednesday, 12 Oct 2011 08:35 PM
By Paul Scicchitano

GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain has overtaken his rivals for the nomination in the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.

http://www.newsmax.com/getattachment/03f7fbe2-51a9-495a-8cae-a5bf26d0f965/CAIN-lede-03-crop.jpg.aspx?width=250&height=192

The former Godfather’s Pizza CEO tops the shortlist of candidates as the choice of 27 percent of likely Republican voters. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is second with 23 percent, and Texas Gov. Rick Perry is third, at 16 percent.

“There is still a long, long, long time to go,” cautions Republican pollster Bill McInturff, who conducted the survey along with Democratic pollster Peter D. Hart.

“Cain is the leader,” Hart declares. “That’s the story.”

The NBC/WSJ poll (http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/i/MSNBC/Sections/NEWS/A_Politics/October_Poll.pdf)of 1,000 likely voters was taken Oct. 6-10, before Tuesday night’s GOP candidate debate in which political analysts say both Cain and Romney did well. (http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/debate-perry-cain-romney/2011/10/11/id/414071)

Perry lost more than 20 percentage points from the previous survey in late August. At that time, Perry led the field with 38 percent, followed by Romney with 23 percent, while Cain claimed only 5 percent.

Among the rest of the field, Texas Rep. Ron Paul was in fourth place at 11 percent, followed by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 8 percent; Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, 5 percent; and former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, 3 percent.

Just over half of Republican primary voters now view Cain favorably, as opposed to just 6 percent who view him unfavorably. His popularity is even higher among tea party supporters, with 69 percent viewing Cain favorably and 6 percent viewing him unfavorably.

Among “very conservative” Republicans, Cain enjoys a favorable rating of 72 percent, as opposed to just 2 percent who don’t view him favorably.

Cain supporters appear to be impressed by the fact that their candidate is not a politician and that he seems real. One 46-year-old male respondent from Florida reportedly said of Cain: “He has common-sense answers and is in touch with the heartbeat of America.”

Still another cited his “direct” answers. “He is succinct. He isn’t a politician,” said a 56-year-old male from Washington.

I really like Cain a lot, but am nervous about his 999 plan. Us on the low end of the scale and retired don't pay payroll tax, don't pay much if any income tax, and only pay states sales tax on non-food items. We deduct mortgage interest from income tax as well as medical expenses (a big one).

I haven't seen a detailed plan on the 999, but from what I've heard in speeches, it sounds like I'd pay up to 18% more in total taxes than I do now. If anybody has a link to the details, please share it. I'd like to know.

Neal Boortz says the 999 plan is just a step towards implementation of the Fair Tax. Cain figures he can get people to understand this, then when he is in office and 999 is in place, he can show people the additional benefits of the Fair Tax. At least I hope so. I much prefer the Fair Tax. But I definitely prefer Herman Cain to be the Republican nominee and our next president.

Dang! Romney has the endorsement of the Liberal Media, Jimmy Carter, and now Christie. All we need is the Republican Party to nominate him... just like it did McCain... the Maverick... AND the PICK of the LIBERAL Main Stream Media... so they can DROP him like a hot potato a la McCain, and THEN give their full and undivided support to their man Obama. We're letting the LMSM "help" us choose the "Right" candidate... the one they can beat. Just like Carter, they want him to run, not to win!

I don't see how you would pay 18% more if you pay any income taxes at all. Dropping the rate of corporate taxes from 35% to 9% would reduce the prices of all goods because a big portion of the imbedded taxes would be gone. The imbedded taxes on all items averages 22%. This works the same way as the FT except under the FT, all imbedded taxes would disappear.

Anyway, I am a huge supporter of the FairTax. It's not that it would help me over the current system. It would, in fact, cause me to pay more taxes, so why do I support it? Because it would be the best thing for the country. Cain is also a supporter of the FT, and the 9-9-9 plan is a gateway to it.

Indeed there are some on the lower end of the scale who will pay more in taxes on the 9-9-9 plan. Honestly I dunno how we ever got to a place where so many pay no federal income taxes and some even get a large enough return they pay no payroll taxes.

I am personally against an income tax BUT if we as a nation are going to have an income tax I think that everyone who earns an income should pay something. I can understand a progressive system but one where nearly 50% pay no federal income tax is flawed beyond my belief.

Oh and by the way I fully understand the marriage gun license thing in the same office. I was married by the JoP while he was cleaning his revolver. (actully I think it was just in pieces on the desk...)

If this is all there is it doesn't add up for me. If they do not consider social security as income I'll be okay on income tax. The sales tax hurts because it includes food and gasoline, two things I must continue.

The sales tax really hurts others I know much more than me. They paid their income tax and saved lots of money for retirement. Now they get to pay more income tax in the form of sales tax. I guess those who still have money in pre-tax 401K accounts will make out as they only pay 18% (9% when they get the money and 9% when they spend it).

Business Flat Tax – 9%

Gross income less all investments, all purchases from other businesses and all dividends paid to shareholders.
Empowerment Zones will offer additional deductions for payroll employed in the zone.

Individual Flat Tax – 9%.

Gross income less charitable deductions.
Empowerment Zones will offer additional deductions for those living and/or working in the zone.

National Sales Tax – 9%.

This gets the Fair Tax off the sidelines and into the game.

As for product prices going down, I don't believe it. He doesn't eliminate property taxes, or any other non-income taxes. Without deducting expenses, business taxes will likely go up not down.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think the devil is still in the details. I figure we'll all be swimming in versions of the impact. I may even have to watch the next debate. I miss the old days when the candidates rode together on a train and were friendly and each made their pitch in each town.

The price of goods [and services] will definitely go down 13-16% because of the reduction in corporate taxes. Competition will see to that. It always has in the past.

Local taxes will, of course, remain. Like the FT, this is a replacement for federal income taxes, estate tax, etc. The exception will be states who base their state income taxes on the federal income tax. They will have to change their system, probably to one resembling the 9-9-9 plan.

Social Security is all I have so I haven't paid income tax on it yet. I cannot afford to begin now. Doesn't Social Security withholding come from after taxed dollars?

I can assume this plan will be good if it could apply to those just starting out, but some of us finishing up get hammered paying taxes on what was already taxed. Social Security wasn't intended to be taxed and to tax it now and leave us surviving it needs a big increase to break even. That ain't gonna happen.

Cain will loose any chance he has if he plans on taxing all Social Security 9%. There's a lot of seniors who vote.

All but my VA and CRSC is taxed... and the VA($243/mo.) is DEDUCTED from my retirement... the CRSC($123) makes up for half of that. Have 20% VA disability... half attributed to Combat... Tinnitus. I really don't think Cain's plan would stand a chance. Can't you imagine BSNBC, CNN and the other liberal media along with Harry Reid talking about Cain balancing the budget on the backs of the poor. Right now, with 47% of the country not paying income tax, the outcry would be louder than when Bush tried to privatize portions of SS.

Anyone on military retirement has another concern. The military pay date was changed to the last business day of the month instead of the 1st of the next month. My notices from DFAS are saying that will result in me receiving 13 paychecks for this year and have to pay taxes on that 13th check... not a pay raise... just a paper date change. With my wife and me that will result in a 25% added tax for a month of our pay... about $1000 more in taxes... without any more actual money received! I'm going to write my congressman... this is BS. No COLA for two years, though everything has risen in cost, and now extra taxation for a paper change on the date the money is officially received.

I remember when Congress was short of money and came up with the delaying the pay for the military one day... to the next fiscal year, saving them a bunch on the budget... on paper. They were high-fiving and slapping each other on the backs. We wound up getting our pay the same as always after a bit... on the end of the month, or last business day of the month. That has been the de facto manner in which we've been paid for decades. Now a paper change to actually say that's the official pay date is meaning 13 checks this year... BS!! I can show my checking account statement that shows the pay in the account by the last day of the month as far back as the bank has records or I have old paper statements.

If you receive military retirement, you need to watch for this if you haven't already received notification.

Cain says the Fair Tax would be replacing the 9-9-9 system as soon as enough support is there. The "pre-bates" paid to EVERYONE would pay back the costs for the necessities and cover all of the lower income groups' taxes paid out.

The easy demonization is saying this will be ON TOP of the already existing taxes. The Fair Tax is contingent on the repeal of the income tax.

Wynn, we're in a similar boat only my disability is 10% for Tinnitus. I finally got hearing aids this year and really appreciate that.

O'Dell, If you think if terms of those without an income other than SS and pay no income tax currently. I have big medical bills and a mortgage that I deduct from the form now. I don't know if I would pay income tax without the deductions now or not.

I am not employed so I have no offset on a paycheck. So that doesn't help me.

If SS becomes taxed as regular income and no more deductions for medical and mortgage interest, I'll pay 9% of my income starting with the first dollar for income tax vs. Zero now. That's an increase.

I would pay an additional 9% sales tax on all purchases including food and medicine. That's an increase.

So an increase in income tax and sales tax. Remember I pay 0% of all that will be reduced or eliminated now. But will pay 18% combined on what I get and spend.

They say prices will go down because the pass along taxes will be eliminated. But they are not all eliminated, each business in the chain still will pass along their 9% plus all local, state, gasoline taxes, plus all license fees, etc. A business that deducts 25% of revenue on expenses will not be able to do so. That means all labor costs, utilities, medical and property insurance will be taxed. They may have paid 28% before but it was only on 25% of their revenue. Now they'll get to pay 9% on 75% of their revenue. I do not see how all that "savings" from the 999 plan saves me money. Keep in mind the notion of prices falling is an unknown entity. The proposed income and sales taxes are very definite and real.

Now a gazillionare like George Sarrous and Warren buffet will love it because there's ZERO tax on dividends and capital gains. How does that help me? Ending payroll withholding taxation for Social Security and Medicare could be foggy also. They can stop withholding it from employee's paychecks, but what if they just have the employer's pay it. Promise kept but who does that help?

No, if the little blurb I hear and the one I posted are it, I cannot support it. There has to be more to it or an intelligent man like Cain wouldn't be proposing it. Like the old commercial, "where's the beef?" I really hope there's something there but I have to see and read it and understand it before I can support it.

MY LAST TRIP TO COSTCO

Yesterday I was at my local COSTCO buying a large bag of Purina dog chow for my loyal pet, Jake, the Wonder Dog and was in the check-out line when a woman behind me asked if I had a dog.

What did she think I had an elephant? So because I'm retired and have little to do, on impulse I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, I was starting the Purina Diet again. I added that I probably shouldn't, because I ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms.

I told her that it was essentially a Perfect Diet and that the way that it works is, to load your pants pockets with Purina Nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete so it works well and I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in line was now enthralled with my story.)

Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care, because the dog food poisoned me. I told her no, I stepped off a curb to sniff a poodle's butt and a car hit me.

I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack he was Laughing so hard.

Costco won't let me shop there anymore. Better watch what you ask retired people. They have all the time in the World to think of crazy things to say. Forward this (especially) to all your retired friends...it will be their laugh for the day!

The 9% is ONLY on retail sales. It would not be added at each step of the chain. Maybe you're not convinced that prices would drop, but I am. Other than a few years in the legal area, and even then I worked for a corporation, I have been in the business arena all my life. I have seen what competition can do in a free enterprise system, and I know without a doubt that the prices would have to fall in relationship with the costs.

Now, as to your situation, I really don't know it, so I can't say what would happen. I don't even know all all of the ramifications in my own. I may come out ahead, behind, or even - I really don't know for sure. But, I do know that nearly anything is better than the unfathomable situation we have now. It is much too easy for the politicians to manipulate the current tax system for their own benefit. I feel that same way about the FairTax, which I have studied far more, and I am convinced that the 9-9-9 plan is a step in that direction. I probable wouldn't benefit from the FT personally, but I'm sure the nation will, and that's why I'm for it.

Seems unlikely based on current history. Might have been true once upon a time, but these days any productivity gain just translates into better profits for the large corporations. Just my opinion of course, but I am old enough to have been watching for a while. ;)I don't believe it either. The 9-9-9 plan will greatly benefit small business owners. They will reward themselves with (zero tax) dividends and take small salaries at the 9% tax rate. Anyone smart enough or old enough to have accumulated some wealth will get taxed a second time as they spend it. The Devil is in the details. Cain is a businessman so that's who he favors in his plan. The working poor will be hard hit by 9%.

I watched Huckabee tonite and he had a pro/con debate from"experts" then had Cain on. Cain said very loud and clear that Social Security income will NOT be taxed. That's huge for me, and many others. Further, if those retired living on Social Security and also income from dividends and capital gains, they won't be taxed either. So income wise I will be okay.

Next I want him to say food and medication will not be subject to sales tax.

I really don't get why they can't state these little detail like what is taxed income and what gets sales tax. It's important. Just as important is what precisely will be taxed for business so we can make informed expectations about savings that may be passed along. Rain is right on about how business owners will loop around taxation. Find what is not taxed and move your income through that stream.

Today it's find out what can be expensed and have the company buy it all. A friend had his company buy him 2 vacation homes, 2 vehicles and an airplane. He followed IRS rules and could stand an audit as he took clients and employees to the vacation homes and flew to his other offices. Once the four of us even flew to a resort city and had a great time. We took a couple hours in our respective rooms to hold our individual annual corporate stockholders meetings complete with minutes. All legal.

Also, for business, purchases of new equipment will be exempt. For personal purchases of used equipment is exempt. Does that mean businesses will pay sales tax on used equipment like personal will buying new equipment?

Back to these two experts. Both have credentials and yet have polar opposite positions. I do not understand why those who have all the details can't give the hard facts and separate the assumptions. Hard facts include the 999 part and assumptions are product prices.

Enough rambling. I'm looking forward to all the details filtering out about his plan. I hope he gets it done before the next debate to diffuse some of the blasting he will otherwise receive. Being number one makes you a very big target.

Okay, switching gears to something about guns.

CCW Training:
Today I attended my bi-annual CCW Training. One of the guys was having serious issues with his Kel-Tek 380. He had numerous failure to load, lite primer strikes, etc. Between the shooting and classroom I took a look at it and I've never seen a gun that dry. I asked him when he last cleaned it and he said never, that it's new and this was it's first outing. He said since it's new it's clean. I explained about lube and especially breakin friction. He will clean and do it right now. However the instructor noted his warning to not use the gun for carry until it's fixed on the documents for his (instructor's) protection.

Extractor Gumming:
I love cleaning my guns so I did a super thorough job including detail upper when I got home. That killed about 3 hours. I had been fussing about my extractor acting all stiff lately, interfering with a little project. I could barely move it with my finger and when I tore into it I found more of that darn Weapon Shield gummed up in there. I do mean gummed up. I don't remember putting any there, but believe that if you use something else after using Weapon Shield you could have an issue. That's assumption as I don't know if it would gum on it's own.

Extractor and Placing Round in Chamber:
Anyway, I cleaned it up and polished the forward sloped face of the extractor very well and rubbed TW25 into it. Why?? To see it I could lay the slide against a chambered round and have the extractor slip around it. Worked like a charm. I just nuzzle it up there and easily push it forward with very little pressure and it just opens up and swallows the rim. I don't recommend doing this with a mag release type action, but fail to see how my thing can injure the extractor.

So you say, why do this? I'd rather do that than rack a round then drop the mag and top it off. It's simple and quick and hopefully harmless. Also, I eliminates the wear and tear on repeatedly chambering the same round.

Bad Shoulder:
Don't know if I told you that I went to the doc about my bad shoulder. He thought I have a torn rotator cuff and was looking at surgery. Had the xray and MRI. My followup with the doc was yesterday. My shoulder is a mess with 3 tears in the rotator cuff, fluid in a bursa thingy, bursitis, arthritis, impingement (pinches the rotator cuff ligament), a 9mm (funny!) cyst, and almost everything is degenerative. It's enough to make me want to take up drinking. My friends say if I had done that 50 years ago my shoulder would be fine. Anyway, the tears don't go all the way through the cuff so he shot me up with cortosone and I'll go to physical therapy. I knew it hurt, now I know why. I didn't dare mention the other shoulder.

Obamacare:
"Obama administration drops part of healthcare law

The CLASS program to provide long-term-care insurance will not be implemented because it wouldn't be financially sustainable, says the Department of Health and Human Services."

Gee, that might be a clue that the services Americans will get is subject to funding. Nah, they promised that would never happen. Of course the 30% cut in Medicare reimbursements to take place 1/1/2012 won't happen either. No really! It will be again pushed out past the election. At least that my prediction. Then there is another rumor that, if re-elected, Obama will kill Medicare altogether.

And that my friends is "all I have to say about that."

Dang! I have two shoulders kind of like that... torn rotator cuffs from two separate skiing accidents... Austria and Germany in the mid-80's. I guess I got the laissez faire treatment. I got a few cortisone or saline solution shots in one joint back then and I've had to get into rehab with physical therapy a few times over the years when one hurt and I used it less and less. That's not good, but I've been active enough to not get that bad again.

I got 10% disability for one... the one that caused the most trouble, but I would have to look at my award to see which shoulder.

I've had a right shoulder problem [pain] for several months. My doctor suspects an impingement of some kind. He took an X-ray but nothing showed up - I don't know why no MRI since they have a machine right there. Anyway, I have an appointment at Piedmont Hospital Friday and they're suppose to be one of the best at orthopedics in the south. To complicate matters, I'm in the middle of a siege of cluster headaches, the first in several years. For you that don't know clusters, when they hit they last six to eight weeks, and are about the most escruciating headaches around - they are completely debilitating. I won't take anything but aspirin, but have discovered over the years that vigorous exercise, especially pushups, will take the edge off. I had a really bad day yesterday, and did over 250 pushups, 25-30 at a time. Today, I can't even lift a cup of coffee with my right hand.

Clusters are quite rare, and are pretty much exclusive to men, so little research has been done. No one knows what causes them, however some things that will trigger them during a siege are known. They do know that excess serotonin is present in the brain during attacks. The triggers include chocolate, alcohol, nitrites and other preservatives, cheese, and nuts. Since I don't cook and eat only prepared foods at home, other than the alcohol, this practically eliminates my whole diet. I have been scrambling, mostly without success, to determine what I can eat.

Went from digging ditches with a 20lb digging bar to a computer nerd as more body parts stopped working. Now I'm thinking maybe that wasn't such a good thing. Problem was the docs said we need to cut on this and cut on that and if you think it hurts now wait till we're done cutting. Well, the last part came mostly from some who had it done.

Here's a better joke!

The Perfect Comeback
> I took my dad to the mall the other day to buy some new shoes (he is 66).
>
> We decided to grab a bite at the food court.
>
> I noticed he was watching someone sitting next to him.
>
> The teenager had spiked hair in all different colors - blue , green,
> orange, red , & purple - and my dad kept staring at her.
>
> The teen would look over and find my dad staring, every time.
>
> When she'd finally had enough, she sarcastically asked:
> "What's the matter old man, never done anything wild in your life?"
>
> Knowing my Dad, I quickly swallowed my food so I wouldn't choke on his
> response - I knew he'd have a good one!
>
> In classic style, he responded without batting an eyelid:
>
> "Got stoned once and screwed a peacock. I was just wondering if you were
> my daughter."

I had some of their chocolate brownie ice cream a few days ago... the first in decades. I usually get Hagen Daz but the commissary was out of chocolate.:(

THIS REALLY SHOWS THE INGENUITY OF OUR LITTLE FOLKS....ENJOY!!!

The kids filed back into class Monday morning. They were very excited. Their
weekend assignment was to sell something, then give a talk on productive
salesmanship.

Little Sally led off: "I sold girl scout cookies and I made $30," she said
proudly, "My sales approach was to appeal to the customer's civil spirit and
I credit that approach for my obvious success." "Very good," said the
teacher.

Little Mary was next: "I sold magazines," she said, "I made $45 and I
explained to everyone that magazines would keep them up on current events. "
"Very good, Mary " said the teacher

Eventually, it was Little Johnny's turn. The teacher held her breath ...
Little Johnny walked to the front of the classroom and dumped a box full of
cash on the teacher's desk. "$2,467," he said. "$2,467!" cried the teacher,
"What in the world were you selling?"

"Toothbrushes," said Little Johnny.

"Toothbrushes!" echoed the teacher, "How could you possibly sell enough
tooth brushes to make that much money?"

"I found the busiest corner in town," said Little Johnny. "I set up a Dip &
Chip stand and gave everybody who walked by a free sample." They all said
the same thing, "Hey, this tastes like dog crap!" Then I would say, "It is
dog crap. Wanna' buy a toothbrush?" "I used the Obama approach of giving you
something ****** for free, and then making you pay to get the taste out of
your mouth."
