Inserting Slide Lock/Takedown Pin

I haven't taken my new gun apart yet, but have read through the instructions with regard to removing and re-installing the slide lock/takedown pin. I'm a little confused about the inserting process, about getting the slide lock to catch the spring...you know, insert at 4 o'clock, insert partially, raise to 3 o'clock and get the little lock ledge to catch the spring. I haven't found a YouTube video that really can show this..are there any posts on the Kahr forum that have pictures of this, or any other resources ?


My other gun is an XD9, which doesn't have a takedown pin to remove, just have to rotate it from 9 to 12 to release the slide for removal, and v.v to lock it back in.

do what u just stated above and u asre good to go. just look at the slide lock lever first and see that ledge where that little springhy will rest when properly installed. On that ledge is a small groove and that is where that littrle springhy will rest and u will more than likely hear a "snap" when it locks in place. when properly installed that little springhy is ALWAYS wanting to pull the lever downward, never upwarfd. The only thing that moves that slide lock lever upward is the magazine follower on the last round our ur thumb pushing it upward during shooting and causing premature slidce locking open. I always put a tad of grease obn the slide lock pin itself kand also on that little ledge. Just helps everything

Don't worry about all that. Just stick it in enough to catch the barrel and then push it all the way into the cutout trying not to scratch the slide or frame. Rack it back and forth. See if an empty mag will stop the slide back and you are good to go.

What I do is when rubing a dab of greas on the pin, I rub just a 1/4 tich on the slope to the notch. I found the spring moves into it a little easier, in my mind if not reality. My thing is I really clean the oil and grease off all my parts when cleaning. Not necessary, but it makes me happy.

OP, I'm pretty sure you're over thinking it. I've found that I do that a lot with things. :D

Also, I find it easier to remove the pin by pushing on it while pulling the slide back. If it's free enough to push out it will catch and hold the slide there so you can grip the pin and continue it out when you pull the slide the rest of the way to the notch.

Don't know if my wording makes sense, but if you push on the pin while pulling the slide back the rest is natural.

I was concerned too before I field stripped my CM9 for the first time. Once the pin is in the lug of the barrel, just line up the half-round ear on the slide stop with the half-round notch in the slide and push the slide stop in till it stops. Verify it works and your done. It is easier that it sounds.
