View Full Version : Sig p220

I finally got to the range with my P220. This is the pistol that was stolen in August, 2010, and after many months of battling, I got it back in July of this year. it's been almost a year and a half since I shot it, so it's almost like a new gun to me.
I haven't been shooting well since my right shoulder started acting up four months ago, so I needed to shoot a gun like the SIG to get my confidence back. I have an appointment at the orthopedic center at Piedmont Hosp. next week.
The targets were at 35 feet, and these are my last two. I let 2 or 3 get away from me, but it's a lot better than I did with the M&P on the last outing.

That's some nice shooting.
Hope all goes well with the treatment of your shoulder.

That's sure a fine looking pistol O'Dell. Probably my favorite in your toy box.
Let's not talk about shoulders though, I think both of mine are going right about the same time you mentioned. Kind of not bad and then bad back and forth until about that 4 month mark you mentioned, now it bad more days than not.
I've been told it's almost imperative given my mode of transportation which of course makes it even more challenging in itself.
If it weren't for stuff going bad what would I have to bellyache about? Ya know?

Very nice shooting.
My P220 is still in the shop being upgraded.
The gunsmith is really sensitive about how long he works on a gun.
It's a 12 year old P220 and a good action job takes time.
I told him take all the time in the world, no worries.
Don't know when I'll ever get it back - LOL!
I'll just have to enjoy my new toy.
It's funny the cycles I go through.
Right now i'm enjoying close quarters, double tap,
rapid fire, no sights, point shooting.
With my version of a AK-47 handgun.

Mine's a nickel plated German 1996 build. I like it because it has the folded carbon steel slide rather than the SS on the newer guns. It's four ozs lighter than the new ones at 25.7 ozs empty. Needless to say, but it was flawless today. I wish I was.

Mine is older, pre-stainless, too.
Nickel plated slide and controls with aluminum alloy frame.
It's 31.1 oz empty. Don't think it was made in Germany though...

Thats nice shootin there O'Dell...Glad you got your pistol back after the wait...I talked to DeKalb County Police last week about my stolen 1911 they found back in March and they said the G.B.I. has just now started to do ballistic testing again so I will try and be patient and hope mine comes back someday in decent shape...
Sorry to hear about your shoulder issues...Back in 2006 I had to have cervical spine surgery done to fuse three disks in my neck and I went to Dr. Lee Kelley at Peachtree Orthopedics across the street from Piedmont Hospital which is where Dr. Kelley does his procedures...Piedmont is a very good hospital if you end up needing surgery and I can highly recommend Dr Kelley if you don't have an Orthopedic Surgeon already...
Best of luck and glad you and that nice Sig are back together again and making beautiful music...

Bawanna, I used to have bad pain in both shoulders, and it was getting worse, keeping me awake at night. I knew I had damaged both shoulders in the past, so I thought that was the cause. But I had a nagging suspicion it was something else, maybe a circulatory problem.
Well, I started taking fish oil pills 2 or 3 years ago and, in a few months every trace of the pain was gone, and hasn't been back since! I take 3 big 1000mg horse pills a day, and it is the most effective supplement I have ever taken, positively affecting all of my joints, my blood pressure, my heart and cardiovascular issues, and I hear it even helps your mood a bit.
Try it. Give it 6 months. If you use an email app like MS Outlook, you can set repeating reminders on your computer to help keep you on schedule. You can get twin packs at Walmart real cheap.
Please do this before you consider any kind of surgery. For people I have known that had shoulder surgery, the pain afterwards is immense and doesn't seem to go away very fast.

My wife gave me the fish oil pills daily for a long time. I thought they was given me the squirts so I quit taking them. I should probably start them again since I don't think it really was the main cause.
Trust me I'll tolerate a ton of pain (they taught me that in rehab, pain is a feeling and feeling is a good thing) before I go under a knife.
It only hurts when I sit or lay down or reach for anything above my belt buckle so nothing extreme yet.
Thanks for the idea. I'll start on em tomorrow. I need to get me one of them pill dispensers, taken so much junk I don't even know what it is. Nothing serious though. Supplements I think mostly.
We better give back O'Dell his Sig thread, we're circling the drain with talk of pain and squirts and pills.
Mine's an 89 P220 "American". Love that gun. Last spring I "upgraded" to the newer smaller grips, and the P226 type hammer with round back vs pointy back. And I treated it to some 8 round magazines (which help on the hold with the new grips). Great gun to hold, aim and fire. Changing the hammer to the newer one requires some other new parts like the strut and mainspring holder. Also gotta add the newer plastic block at the back of the frame - to accommodate the rebound spring. All good, since it changes the geometry from the older style, and smooths out and lightens the DA pull too. SA was unaltered. The only problem with the P220, is it doesn't fit in my pocket, like the PM45 does!

Nice shooting and nice pistol. I have a P220 1994 vintage which is one of my favorites. Wonderful German quality.

Thanks. My doctor seems to think it's an impinged nerve, but I hope to find out next week. I do know that it has made shooting difficult for two or three months. After 5 or 10 minutes my right arm starts to shake and my accuracy has fallen off measurably.
I hope you get your 1911 back soon. I lost three 1911's in February and none have been recovered. I replaced them with other guns except for the SIG C3. I liked that one so much, I bought another just like it.

It's would have to be a BIG pocket. I lost my PM45 in February, so my only pocket guns now are the PM9 and an LCP. I do occasionally carry the P220 though, under a coat or jacket.
Hey O'Dell, that is some great shooting! The target on the right is the one where you were shooting over your shoulder looking through a mirror right? That might explain why the group on the right (although quite acceptable!) is not as tight as on the left. :D
In all seriousness, very nice shooting! Looks like the year and a half seperation frmo your Sig did not hurt you too bad!

Thanks a bunch - I'm trying to build back my confidence after a disastrous last trip with my M&P - my fault, not the gun. :D
Seriously, I'm not shooting as well as I was six months ago - part physical, part mental. When I said it was like a new gun, that was true. Just before it was stolen over a year ago, it went back to SIG for new springs, new NS's, and a lighter trigger. This was the first trip after the mods. The trigger was causing me to shoot before I was set and the sights were shooting slightly right. I was still adjusting on the right target. The trigger may have caused the flyer on the left target, but I'll take the blame.

Correct. It doesn't make me so mad to say lost.

I know I still get mad just thinking about it. Got no use for thieves.

Thanks. That's one of the original mags that came with the pistol 15 years ago. When the gun was stolen, they took three mags just like the one in the picture. When I finally got it back, it only had one mag. I had to buy a spare, and it has the plastic bumper on the bottom. I don't think it can be removed.
