18.5" barrel and +3 extension.
It's a home defense gun, the added round is OK by me and the extension won't be an issue.
Definitely has some added heft with 8 rounds of 00 buck loaded.

Nothing in all the world looks and sounds more business like than a pump scatter gun. Like looking down the Mullholland Tunnel on the business end.
We have several of course at the dept here and I got some yellow Speed Feed stocks for less lethal stuff, bean bags and such.
I got the ones with the built in pistol grip, still has the full length, (actually slightly shorter) buttstock but with a pistol grip too. Never liked a pistol grip alone, just no control, but this set up works very well and allows excellent control of the gun with one hand if you need to open a door or push somebody out of the way.
A fully loaded shotgun is as you said considerably bulky in weight, the pistol grip really helps.
They originally only made them in black when I inquired, and the owner got back to me and said you know all I gotta do is pour in yellow instead of black and I'm there so I got the very first 2 yellow pistol grip stocks.
Another moment in history brought to you by somebody I know not who.
Nice scattergun by the way.

Haha thanks!
I actually had 2 pistol grip stocks, down to 1 now - just don't care for them for whatever reason on this gun - I keep going back to the stock, ummm stock.
Does the department model have a longer barrel or longer magazine tube? (In other words, are they like mine or are they more even/tube shorter than barrel?)

Ours are even which made me wonder why your barrel isn't. I'm gonna grab my tape measure and do some measuring.
At least 3 of ours came from Scattergun Technology and 2 were plain police 870's and were upgraded. So they may have just cut the barrels to match the extended mag tube.

They might have the 20" barrels on them... I may see if anyone is looking to trade a 20 for an 18 one day.

If the barrel is threaded for chokes, you might add one of those "breaching-choke" things to lengthen the barrel... not sure how much that adds but I can measure mine quickly. I got the widest cylinder choke that I could find to replace that breacher for the skeet range, but the 18" barrel on my Charles Daly Tactical SA is so short that I easily swing past the birds and get a LOT of BLOOMING flash from the short barrel.
The breaching tool adds 2 inches. That thing would protect your barrel extension AND give you almost a bayonet... pretty nasty edge to the front.

Just measured and ours are 18" right on the money. They are an add on extension to the original mag tube which looks similar to yours so there must be different length extensions as well.
Maybe yours holds one more round than ours too. I can't remember now how many they hold.

Thanks for the added info guys!
Mine isn't threaded, I may look into a +2 extension if it starts to bother me.
