This post is for all of you wanting to know how to load your own books(ie. not bought from Amazon or Barnes & Nobel) onto your Kindle or Nook Color.
Firstly, you need to download books you would like to read onto your computer from the internet somewhere. Next you will need to convert these books into a format that your eReader can handle. I recommend the free program Calibre. It's easy to use and can convert anything. Download here: http://calibre-ebook.com/download You can also use this program to read ebooks on your computer if you'd like to.
For the Kindle the supported formats are: Kindle (AZW), TXT, PDF, Audible (Audible Enhanced (AA, AAX)), MP3, unprotected MOBI, PRC natively; HTML, DOC, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP through conversion.
If you're loading books in this manner I'd recommend the MOBI format.
Here's some instructions for loading onto the Kindle from your PC:
1. Sideloading(transferring books from computer to Kindle) is accomplished by attaching the Kindle to your computer with the included USB cord.
2. The Kindle mounts as a drive on your desktop (Mac) or look under “My Computer” for the PC. Then dropping and dragging the file onto the Kindle and placing in the documents folder.
3. Now just eject your Kindle from the computer, unplug it, and read away!

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to PM me. I'll do the best I can to help.
For the Barnes & Noble Nook Color:
Please be advised that I do NOT own a Nook. These instructions I found on the internet. They should work just fine though.
For the Nook Color you should use ePub format. You can use the above mentioned (Calibre) program to convert your files if needed.
1. Turn on your Nook Color.
2. Put your SD card into the Nook Color.
3.Plug your Nook Color up to your PC with the provided micro usb cable.
4. A menu should pop up on your PC screen, telling you it sees an SD card and if you would like to open it(Your Nook Color will unmount the SD card from the NC and mount it to the PC. If not, go to "My Computer" and you should see it there.).
5. Once you open the SD card, make a folder to store your files. I named mine "ebooks"
6. Close the open windows and unplug the usb cable from the Nook Color. (the Nook Color will now remount the SD card to the Nook Color)
7. Hit your on-screen menu button on the Nook Color and hit Library.
8. Press memory card.
9. Navigate your way to your folder where your book is, ex. "ebooks"
10. Now press on the ebook file to open.

In case the above Nook Color instructions do not work, here are another set of instructions that I found online. They are mostly the same, but slightly different:
You will download books in epub format, either from our book store, or others. once you have downloaded said book to your computer, do the following:
1. Plug in your USB cable to the nook and then into your USB input on your computer. Most computers have a USB input on the front these days and laptops on the side or back.
2. You will see windows recognize the device.
3. Right-click on Start and go to Explore.
4. Locate your ebook folder
5. Find the My Documents folder on your nook
6.Grab, drag and drop the ebook into the My Documents folder.
7. Repeat as necessary
8. Unplug nook from computer
9. On the nook do a Search For New Content
10. You new files should show up in the My Documents folder.
