View Full Version : Should I upgrade from a P830 to a PM9

I have the P380 LCI with NS and a Crimson Trace Laser.
It is very easy to pocket carry.
I have had issues and have a new frame that seems to have solved some problems, but I am still having some FTF and now the slide does not always cycle far enough to set the trigger. I am just using American ammo. (Cor=bon DPX and Federal 90 gr Hydro Shock) I have not yet finished the 200 round break in period with the new frame.
Is the PM9, which is definitely larger, still easy to pocket carry?
Is the PM9 much more reliable?
I don't want to get into a discussion about the 380 vs 9mm stopping power.
Thank you for all of your help.

Bob, I own a PM9 and Sig P380. The P380 is 100% reliable and I still never carry it in place of my PM9. The 9 presents no issues for me for pocket carry unless I am wearing a pair of jeans that I should have bought one size bigger.
The PM9 has never presented one problem for me. It is the last weapon I would ever get rid of in my 'stash'.

Yes, you should.
I'm no longer a fan of the .380 round since there are some nice small and reliable 9mm's on the market. Unless you absolutely cannot carry one of them, I guess the .380 will do...

I'd do it in a heartbeat.

YES, Even though I do not believe a PM9 is a true pocket pistol. Unless your talking Cago pants or a jacket pocket. The PM9 is just such and awesome small 9mm pistol.

get a cm9 and call it a day, when you are satisfied with it sell the p380

Check with Rich in customer service at Kahr. He told me they were accepting returns for cash refunds on the Kahr 380. I have no idea the stipulations but it may be worth checking into it. You may want to contact your area rep. You can access his email on the Kahr website. I found the Utah very helpful.
If you can't get a refund you may be able to negotiate a deal for s PM9 which in my opinion can easily be carried in dress pants with a pocket holster. Good luck

I agree with Russ. I'd see if they would work a deal for a PM9/CM9. The size difference is really negligible, but the step up in power is significant. I am so glad to be carrying the CM9 over my old pocket gun - an LCP.

Thanks for all of your good advice.
I think I'll keep the 380 and also get a PM9.

I like how you think. :D

I see you've made a decision and it sounds like a good one. Allow me to add my 2 cents anyways... My PM9 has easily replaced at 80% (perhaps more) of my P3AT .380 carry. Some of my pants do have pockets where only the P3AT fits and allows for a smooth snag free draw. I'm anxious to see, with the cooler weather, if my Kahr replaces some of my Glock carry.

What pocket holsters do you guys like.
I've tried Steller Rigs, Recluse and the Desantis Super Fly..
The Steller Rig for the Laser did not work well. They have modified it and I have not yet received it.
I am a little concerned with the Recuse only because of the open side and the Desantis was just too thick.

I've only had an Uncle Mike's (not so good), and a DeSantis Nemesis which I like. I've not considered the Nemesis to be thick and I 'thought' the Super Fly was thinner. It's not an issue as I only pocket when around the house and working in the yard. I carry my PM9 in a Silent Thunder IWB when out and that's as close to perfect as I'll ever get. Much more comfortable and concealed than a pocket holster.

I have a Blackhawk size 3 and a Super Fly, I prefer the Super Fly because it seems to protect the trigger better.

Even though I carry my PM9 almost everyday there are still those times like the other night at a wedding the wife and I attended and the reception afterward where we boogied most of the night. That little P3at fit the bill as a CCW on my hip perfectly. Probably could have taken the PM9 or the G26 because I did have a suit jacket on but I'm very happy the way things turned out with the .380. With all the huggin going on only once did anyone touch the gun through my suit jacket but still did not realize I had it on me. It's not my favorite gun but there are those times I'm glad I never sold it. More than likely never will as it's really been a good reliable little mouse gun.
