This applies to everyone but especially to new CM9 owners with one mag. You know who you are!

Mags can fail. They do it in several ways. Today I had a Chip McCormick 7 rnd 1911 mag fail during the course of some target practice. The bottom plate separated from the tube, two rounds fell out, the spring and plate went down range and my gun jamed. This is a welded (in four spots) baseplate design.

Imagine my dilema if this was my only mag and worse, my only gun.

Do we need many reasons to carry a spare mag? To own nultiple mags?

Lesson learned. I now carry an extra.

Yep, it's not just about round count - it's about being prepared for 'incidents'.

Very good advice Rainman...I normally don't carry an extra mag but you just convinced me otherwise....I have never heard of a mag failure like you experienced but it just goes to show that even with the best of equipment sometimes chit happens...

I did a little reading on some 1911 forums since and found some company. These welds are just small "spots". I am not the first nor will I be the last. I'm going strictly with Wilson and the removable base plate. My Sig 1911 RCS came with welded style baseplate mag from Checkmate. These will be range use only.

Yep, Checkmate all the way for 1911 mags!
