Oooohh, me likey. I have some 180 gr bear loads that I was thinking about for my snubbie, I know that my 4" bbl and those won't be friends in an urban environment, but still. I may have to get some of those and standardize my .357's.

357 Magnum 125gr. Bonded Defense JHP 20rds. $19.95
This loading makes the .357 Magnum perform like it should!
Velocity is from a 4" bbl and there is virtually no muzzle flash.
For those of you who prefer a wheelgun, this might be the most
effective loading available for defense.
Velocity: 1600fps / 4" Ruger GP-100
1425fps / 1 7/8" S&W
1750fps / 6"bbl S&W 686
Bullet: Bonded Defense JHP
Muzzle Energy: 710 ft. lbs.

Double Tap is nice but if ya want real power step on up to the Buffalo Bore loads.

My wife didn't object to the recoil from this load in my 6" GP100... course she aint run it thru HER 2 1/4" SP101 yet.... perhaps next range trip.

Thing about the Double Tap loads is they list right on the box their actual findings from actual testing thru actual firearms not test barrels.

Kinda reminds me of the corbon power ball round. I know there are probably better defense rounds out there but that power ball just feeds like a fmj, so I tend to trust that one trait of the round,
think of the power of advertising though: CRITICAL DEFENSE. DOUBLE TAP what great names to put on a round. BLACK TALON back years ago was ahot seller because it looked "bad". not sure there was any real proof it was any worse than the other brands, but te public sure jumped on it as a "cop killer".:7:

I like the Critical Defense pretty well and have them in both my SP101 .357 and my CM9. They're not the hottest loads out there, but they do a great job hitting to POA and - importantly to me - they are designed to minimize muzzle flash. They feed very well in the CM9, too.

I'm now carrying CD in my .380 because I see advantages in the round over HP or ball for winter carry here in CT. From tests I've seen (YouTube) and read about the CD in .380 looks like it would get through heavier winter clothing and still get some expansion in the body. What do you feel is the advantage(s) of the CD round over other rounds in larger calibers?
Thanks...

Always thought a mix would be maximal: ball;JHP;ball;JHP etc.
If that doesn't work.... run, he's a Zombie or insurance salesman.

My initial test firing was with 125 grain 357 Magnum rounds in my S&W 640.
(Advertised velocity from 4" barrel)
Hornaday Critical Defense 1500 fps
Winchester PDX1 Defender 1325 fps
Remington Golden Saber 1200 fps
They all recoil about the same for me from the snub nose (Hard LOL!).
I'm thinking If it's going to act like a rocket launcher then
launch a Tactical Nuke (the CD round).
It's also low flash and seems to be designed to work in a short barrel.
Plus the flex tip HP is designed to not plug.
But the Double Tap Bonded HP is advertised at 1600 fps (1425 from a 2" barrel)
and has got my attention. That's 4" velocity from a 2" tube.
The Classic Federal /Remington and Speer GD HP's run 1450 fps from a 4" barrel.
So I would be getting "Hammer of Thor" performance from the snub nose.
Also in Florida heavy clothing isn't an issue anyway.
I love carrying the Smith, cross draw, OWB, inside the belt, in a ballistic nylon belt slide holster.
It's un-believably comfortable like that.
I've been wearing it around the house and have no desire to take it off.
Usually the gun comes off as soon as I walk in the door.

Yes, low flash and designed for performance in short barrels would have advantages in all calibers. I am surprised at how fast CD cronoed, I would have expected less because of what I recall for CD in .380 and 9mm compared to other rounds. Never shot a .357 but I do have a .44 mag revolver. :D

Hearing lots of bad things about Double Tap on GlockTalk.
Thinking of sticking with major brands.
May just fall back to an old favorite -
Speer 135 GDHP 357 Short Barrel

Gold Dots are my first choice for SD ammo. I used to keep Double Taps in my PM9 because they were a little less snappy. Don't remember who, but someone told me that the Double Taps were bad about the bullet moving back in the case.

That is easily fixed if it is true. I'd have to test that out IF I wanted to run Double Tap loads in my K9.
