I received a nice package in the mail last night, a only slightly late birthday gift.
When I opened the package I found one of these.

http://www.kahr.com/Collectibles/Kahr-Kahr-Ceramic-Knife.asp

I didn't even know Kahr carried knifes but I gotta tell ya this is a cool one.
Very pretty, very light and should be easy to carry. The blade is almost opaque, you can see through it almost
Sharp beyond belief, we're talking caution advised here!

Definitely something to add to the Santa wish list.

It's so nice I'm not sure if I'll carry it or put it in my case as a showpiece. My good friend and even better friend now (am I into material things now) carries the same one daily and says I'd never go back to steel? Pretty good endorsement for ceramic.

I'm told they should never need sharpening and if you read the care and maintenance pamphlet (very small, doesn't take long to read) it will last nearly forever.

Just thought I'd share my new toy and happiness for those of you who maybe be lacking in those areas this morning.

Aw man, I was robbed! Well not a tragedy, I already got a cap, so I guess I'm ok.

Watch the blades on those, they tend to chip easily.

Yeah, it does say not to pry with it, or try to chop bone etc. Also to avoid dropping the knife so there is definitely a brittle factor.
Also says to store a folder in the closed position, (not gonna happen, too pretty) and a fixed blade in the sheath to protect it. Can't speak for that one, never seen a fixed blade one but if its as pretty I'll probably throw the sheath away.
Looking cool is job one!

I've currently got a very nice little fixed blade damascus with stag handle. Spends about as much time in my hand as it does on my belt. It's pretty too.

What you need to do to protect that ceramic collectible is put hints out about the SS Kahr Knife (http://www.kahr.com/Collectibles/Kahr-Kahr-Knife.asp) at $34.95. I'm hinting about that one already!

That's a pretty nice looking knife too really. I've found myself enamored with fixed blades lately. An instructor I encountered recently (a been there done that retired LA Swat instructor) was carrying a fixed knife on his weak side about 7 or 8 oclock on your belt clock.
When asked why since he was right handed he said it was his get off his gun knife. Also very handy if your dominant hand is busy fending off or otherwise busy.
Some of the guys started carrying their folders in the weak side pocket but I'm not great at unfolding mine with my left hand. The instructor obviously had good reasons based on experience and it made sense to me so I'm trying copycat him.

Since I know where I can get another Kahr knife now I might carry this one, still can't make up my mind.

There is a fixed blade called the "Roach Belly" for just $14.99 plus whatever shipping is in this Cold Steel catalog I got in the mail. It is 8.5" long and comes with Cordura sheath. The blade is 4.5" Krupp Stainless and the handle is Polypropylene. I found it on the Web for $10.26 + 5.60 shipping. An incredible value, don't you think?

There's 3 or 4 officers here that carry that Roach Belly on their duty belt. It's a decent knife and its really cheap.

If you all are interested in some high quality, inexpensive knives you might like these Mora knives: http://www.ragweedforge.com/SwedishKnifeCatalog.html

The owner of Ragweed Forge is good to go and he has a lot of interesting stuff on his site: http://www.ragweedforge.com/

Some real nice blades for the DIY folks to put handles on.:)

Greg

I have a Mora that's at least 30 years old. Got a pretty funky wood handle on it and a plastic sheath. Bought it in a net shop in Cameron, La. of all places. That thing stays sharp with the laminated blade, kinda like a samurai sword!

Hey Bawanna, here is a folding knife offered by the 1911 Forum, with an assortment of grips just like 1911 grips:

Hey Bawanna,

I got one of those ceramic knives too! I carry it almost every day. It is in my pocket as I write this post. I use it all the time. That sucker is sharp! You do need to be careful. Do not worry too much about chipping it. You just need to understand what you can (and cannot/should not) cut with it. I have been carrying mine for about a year now. It is still as sharp (and intact) as it was when I first bought it. I also like the steel (made in America) buck knife Kahr sells for $35. That is the knife I will take with me when I need something more heavy duty.

Like guns...., you can never have enough knives! :D

I did the paper slice test with mine and it slices it real nice. Weird it won't shave your arm (I usually try to get somebody elses arm for this test) but it cuts like nobodies business. Sharp.

I'll probably end up carrying it. It's pretty enough to display but if it holds up like they are supposed to it will make a darn nice utility knife.

I even found where you can get ceramic replacement blades for your stanley utility knife, for cutting tough stuff. I guess bomb tech guys use ceramic ALOT. Never thought about it but metal ain't cool around bombs.
