View Full Version : Kahr CM9 Grease And Oil And Degreaser Question
Hi, I looked online and seem alot of people use oil and grease that they bought from auto parts shop stuff like Mobil 1. Anybody here use Mobil 1 or grease and oil that they bought from auto parts shop? I been using Remoil from Remington it seem very thin so I want something alittle thicker. If you do use automotive oil and grease on Kahr please tell me what you using and how it been holding up. Also what is a good degreaser to use in the striker hole that the kahr prep thread mention would CLP breakfree work? I'm broke from the new CM9 purchase so I can only afford the cheap stuff right now. Thank you for help.
** Which Mobil 1 oil should I buy? There is like 10 different kind. Which would work best for polymer grip such as Glock and kahr CM9? I bought Mystik grease pink color NO.2 would this be good for the firearm I mentioned?
** I need a good degreaser as well. Something that can be used on polymer frames. I bought CLP Powder Blast and realize it isn't for plastic and polymer. I searched online and saw a few people use non chlorinated brake cleaner what is your review on that? Will the non chlorinated brake cleaner be safe for polymer and plastic?

Many around here use non chlorinated brake cleaner to clean out the striker channel and then just leave it dry so junk isn't attracted to any lube.
Some here use the motor oil, the Mobil 1 etc. Any oil will work, some you may need to apply more often but just about any will suffice and hold up to a relatively long range session.
I like a little TW25 grease on the rails and oil most other places. Theres a good lube thread in the tech section along with the proper prep thread.
If your not having issues I'd not lose any sleep over that striker. A little blast of the CLP and blown out with air will suffice and you'll probably be fine with nothing at all.
While not really necessary its not difficult to take the top end apart and easily wipe things down with regular solvent and reassemble dry or oil and wipe off.
I know broke pretty well, thats where I live quite often.

Lubriplate #105 for Outboard Motors is reputed to be the best cheap grease.
If a gun is built to very tight specs, I'd use oil, if it is looser, grease works well. Some guns need to be wetter than others. Sometimes you need to make allowances for environmental conditions.
I clean so often and shoot every gun at least every two weeks, it doesn't matter what I do or what I use. My two cents.
Thank you for the help Bawanna!

I'm using what came in a $10 Outters 9mm/.40cal gun gleaning kit which included solvent, oil, and all the 'tools'. I bought a small can of Breakfree CLP at Wal-mart. When the Outters oil is gone, I may try the Mobil 1; a quart is probably a lifetime supply for gun use and it doesn't thicken up, even in very cold weather.
Anybody : Where can I get a needle-like dispenser to get oil into tight areas ?
Get yourself some TW-25B (white grease) and some Shooter's Choice FP-10 (liquid) and never look back. ;) These two will take care of all of your lube requirements.
I've been using these two on various types of firearms, handguns and long guns, for 20+ years with great results.

I use NC brake cleaner and CLP on my MK9 CCW. CLP on the rails is fine for a CCW gun IMO. For heavy use on competition rifles and handguns I use Mobile 1 sythetic grease on the rails.

I'll start by saying that I have had five Kahrs and have never had a FTF, FTE, FTFeed, or any other problem except two got themselves stolen. I have been using grease on the rails and barrel and oil everywhere else for over forty years and have had few problems with dozens and dozens of handguns. When I did, it was the gun, not the lube.
Lubricants are better today than ever, but as long as you clean and lube the gun when you shoot it, most will work fine. Currently, I'm using Militec 1 and BC gun grease. I blow out the gun first with NC brake cleaner or electronics cleaner and then lube everything - see Kahr lube guide. I run most of my guns slightly wet, but certainly not leaking oil. As far as CLP is concerned, I use it as a preservative to protect the finish. I think it's a fair cleaner but a poor lubricant.

tw25 is good grease. also any good wheel bearing grease will work. just don't put a lot on. a little bit goes a long way. for oil any good auto oil will work. clp and other gun oil works well also, but they cost more, way more than a qt of mobile 1.

I usually use N.C. Brake Cleaner on the slide rails and in the hole to blow out the Striker Channel, Hoppes"#9 in the bore, and Mobile 1 as lube (Pretty much the same drill in all my guns). Have done it this way for years, and never had an issue. Breakfree CLP is also fine, but a 4 oz bottle costs almost as much as a quart of Mobile 1.

Can you enlighten us on how to disassemble a Kahr upper, or a site or diagram that does?
