I just joined up last month after a friend talked me into getting a Kahr and told me about this site. I appreciate all the good info here on KahrTalk, but must admit that there are so many negative posts that I did start to worry if I had made a bad decision. I did all the initial lubricating mentioned in the sticky here before taking my new P40 to the range. I only had 50 rounds of Winchester ammo with me at the time, but all 50 went through without a problem. I bought more ammo but probably won't get much shooting done until after deer season. My intentions are to use this as my carry piece once I get my permit next Spring. That will give me some time to get aquainted with the gun and get it broke in good.
Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and thank you. I know everybody likes pics, so here is one for your viewing pleasure. Nothing out of the ordinary as far as Kahrs go, but it is mine which makes it very special to me. :)

Hi! Welcome to KahrTalk!
Sounds like you got a good one. For break-in I like to fire 50 rounds clean, another 50 rounds clean, etc.. Probably not necessary as many go to the range with a new gun, 200+ rounds and run them all through without issue.
Oh, really nice pic, might you be a professional photographer or graphics artist?

I was surprised how clean the P40 was after 50 rounds, but I did clean it when I got home. Thanks for the welcome and pic comment. I am not a professional photographer, but I do like experimenting when taking photos.

Welcome to the forum, Brent. I just acquired one of the P40s in September... very slightly used... under 100 rounds. I hadn't planned on getting into .40's, and was really going to get another .45, but I got to thinking about a K40 with Mag-na-porting and then this P40 with it became available and I decided that was close enough and good for CCW as well.
I have put 1.75" bike tube grip covers on all of my polymer Kahrs and really like the feel. Looks are very important to me and the bike tube covers are fine. I had to do something with the cheese-grater grips on the PM45 BEFORE I went to the range. I didn't like the first results so those went to the P380 and the PM9, which worked out well.
Here's a link to my experiences with testing mags and stills from video of me shooting at the range:
http://kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?t=8426
The grip is a bit longer than the PM9 or the PM45, but I switched the polymer for metal base plates on the magazines, saving a bit on the grip length, but then there's a bit of a gap that pinched me one at the range. I tried some O-rings that were too loose and fat that caused feed problems and switched to thinner ones that seem to work. Once was enough on the pinch.
If you haven't seen the take down and assembly video at kahr.com, that would be a good view and very helpful with getting a few things put back together correctly... the recoil spring assembly and the proper insertion of the slide lock with respect to the spring. The latter is easily damaged and causes a lot of problems.

Good luck with your new pistol and again, welcome to the forum... it's not just about complaints here and can be social as well as helpful.

Welcome and Congrats. I am fairly new to the forums also. Great group of very helpful people here with a lot of good valuable info. I recently purchased a CW45, had a little issue with it and everyone chipped in and helped me get it resolved post-haste.

actually that is what a "good" gun or car or motorcycle forum is supposed to do. Ihave been a member of many gun forums, but I have left um all and remain on this one only as it is aq friendly forum with knowledeable people who are here to help and not to puff out their chests--so to say..
I will say this from being on here since the git-go. if these guns can help u get ur gun running right, THEN IT NEEDS TO GO BACK TO THE MOTERSHIP..

Thanks for the welcome guys! Wyntrout, I read your posts on your P40. Lots of good info there so I will be sure to revisit it if I ever have any FTF issues with mine.

This is my Kahr, there are many like it but this one is mine. Without my kahr I am nothing, without me my Kahr is nothing.
Just trying to look good for our many military members here. I been around a little while but never get tired of this place. New members and new ideas from old members is what keeps it ticking.
Nice gun Brent, it'll only get better and better. (Said with puffed out chest!)
Ok, Ok, man boobs.

Thanks again for the welcome guys! :)
I was originally looking for a Kahr P9 but after checking all the area gun shops I didn't find one. I was about to leave the last gun shop and I noticed the P40. I never have owned a .40 caliber before so I decided to get it. A friend was concerned about the recoil, but I reminded him that I was used to a lot of handgun recoil. I've hunted with a 7mm-08 Encore handgun. I didn't find the recoil bad at all and IMO both the grip and trigger feel better than the Sig P239 DAK I owned. At this point I am very happy with it. Time and more shooting will tell how well it continues to function.

Hey guys, I've been thinking about and looking for a holster for my new P40. This past weekend I spotted a couple of holsters on ebay I thought I might like, so I bid on both and won them. I got a new DeSantis Thumb Break holster for $27 and a new Don Hume 721 OT for $15. I'm thinking that I'll use the thumb break holster when I know I might be having a more physically active day.

It has been a while guys, but I'm still around. I check in from time to time to read up on the latest. My brother and I met up last week with some of my shooting buddies I met on another gun forum at a friends gunshop. I took the Kahr along to do ome more break-in shots and test the magazine where I had reangled the follower. http://kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?t=9269 Zero malfunctions, so I believe the small nosedive issue I had is resolved. I absolutely love my Kahr P40. I've mainly been a rifle guy and am just getting into handguns. I need more practice, but did see noticeable improvement over my first range trip. A little more practice and then it's time to go through the course for my carry permit.
