Never had a Kahr. Owned my Sig P238 for about a year as my work/pocket gun. (Off work when i can carry under a jacket or untucked shirt i carry an M&P9c). Really be considering stepping up to a 9mm. the .380 can be picky on ammo and i wonder about its knock down power.

so ive been looking at the Kahr CM9. local dealer offered me $400 in trade for my Sig P238 (its the solid black basic model without night sights). It would only cost me $25 out of pocket for the CM9.

I also understand there is a rebate for a free mag going on.

So what does the Kahr people think? good trade? can i trust my life on the Kahr CM9? anything i should look at before i take the CM9 home?

Thanks for the info

$25 to step into one of the best concealed carry 9mm's on the market?

Yes please. :)

Second only to the PM9 in my humbly honest opinion... and I believe the promo is still going on, get the free 7 round magazine then trade it in for a 6 round magazine (for free).

Welcome to the forum!

My thought are if you feel the CM9 will replace a significant portion of your Sig pocket carry then go for the trade. My PM9 has replace ~80% of my .380 pocket carry but there are those times when the .380 will see carry duty. Also, your [pocket Sig, if you can keep it and still afford the CM9, would make a great BUG to the CM9.

I just moved from a Ruger LCP to a CM9. I was not ready to do so, but someone decided that my stereo need to be theirs, and happened to find the LCP in the truck. Before I am asked - my company has 30.06 posted.

Insurance deductible is higher than the price of the LCP, so I was free to spend my own $$ on the weapon of my choosing. I had always pocket carried the LCP, and had hopes that I could manage that with the CM9. It is a bit large for me, so I guess I will be switching to IWB for the most part, and due to this, I intend on picking up another LCP/BodyGuard/P3AT as a pocket carry for those times I feel that a more appropriate choice.

To be honest, I would probably make that trade if I were you, then pick up a cheaper .380 if you feel the need for a pocketable weapon.

Both of you should consider the PJHolsters IWB (http://pjholster.com/?page_id=37) with over the belt clip. The best $40 you'll ever spend on a holster! It is so light, no bigger in any dimension than it has to be, so all day long perfectly comfortable that the mass of the CM9 vanishes and you have to reach down there in the sweet spot just behind your hip to reassure yourself it is still there! Here are some pics of one made for a Walther PPS...

I made the switch from 380 to 9mm a couple years ago and the only regret I have is not going to 45. I (personally - not an expert) consider 9mm 3 or 4 times better than 380 for self defense and the 45 twice over the 9mm. Please no wars, it's ONLY my preference.

It comes down to how you will carry it and your steady determination TO carry it. The 380 is a pure pocket pistol. The PM9 is a good pocket pistol but does show and may not be appropriate for some pants. However, it is a GREAT IWB gun and conceals extremely well. The PM45 is not a pocket pistol but still small and thin enough to be a great IWB gun.

Ouch! Sorry to hear about that el_chupo...I work for a company that does the same thing, and I think about it every time I lock my carry piece in the car safe.

For those of you not blessed enough to be from Texas :D , the "30.06" that el_chupo mentioned is the section number of Texas' concealed carry law that allows a business to post a notice banning concealed carry in that business. So el_chupo and I both work at a place we can't carry concealed...so we have to leave the gun in the car when we go into work. Violation of "30.06" is a Class A misdemeanor, which carries up to a year in jail and a large fine. It will also, of course, get your carry license revoked/suspended. Bunch of chickensh*t Commies, IMO, but that's a rant for another day.

I say make the trade...I had a LCP and it is a great pocket pistol but traded it and a CW40 for my current PM40 which I easily pocket carry and I'm not a big guy 5'11" 170 lb...The CW40 is about the size of your Sig and was too big to pocket carry but the PM40 works great for me in my right front jeans pocket...It is larger then a .380 but a lot more gun and I hardly notice it's in my pocket anymore....Good luck with your choice and welcome to KahrTalk...

i know some can ocket carry a PM45 but IMO the "old" style PM9 and PM40 weredefinitely pocketable, way far better than the PM45 ojn its best day. PM9 prints, sure it does, if ur looking there. I carry in jeans dan near 24/7 and I know it is there so maybe I would be more consicious of it printing but the average "jo0e" would not know what the hell it is. I could not get a PM45 in my front pocket of my jeans.. I guess I a to old to change to but I ju7st dont want to waist band carry anymore, I find myself having to dress to do that most of the time where as with my PM9, I just put it in my front pocket and I am outta here (in a desantis holster of course)...

Ihave always been a 9mm fan, 45's just never bent my crank so to speaki..

Not a big guy. I used to have to stand on tip toes to make 5'6". I took the physical for the State Patrol when they lowered the standards for minorities and woman. (that's a horrible connection). Had to be 5'6", guy asked me if that was all I had I stretched my neck some and he said your good.

Course now I'm only about 4'4" so I guess I use to be a big guy. I was always wiry though.

Make the trade for two reasons. A CM9 is a great gun, and it seems he is giving you great trade price for your P238. I have both a P238 and a PM9. The PM9 is only slightly harder to pocket. As others have said, the PM (or CM) 9 will go 80% of the places that the .380 will. If you can't keep both, stay with the 9mm and get a .380 later if need be. You can buy one used easily for what he is giving you in trade. No $$ loss.

If you are not in a big hurry I would wait on feedback on the Beretta Nano.

I had issues with an after market night sight that kept breaking on my CM9. The most frustrating part was.I had Kahr install and they could never figure out why it kept breaking.

he offered u a good trade, I would go for it. the cm9 is a super 9mm, Russ's issues is certainly an anomly, not inherit to the cm9 as they use the same exact set up as al lkahr cw series for the night installation. . The nano right now is totally unproved. probalby will be a good gun and if not Bertetta will make it a good gun. to me if offers nadda over the kahr cm9 version. You might get as good a trigger system in the beretta as the cm9 kahr but you won't get better. Ur dealer offered u a darn good trade on the 238 sig to. I sure would not let one or two fellas broken front site keep me from owning a cm9.

UPDATE:

I traded my Sig for the CM9 yesterday. it was the last one they had, stickered at $388. it was the display model so i recon it had been racked a few times already. just to be sure i went ahead and racked it another 200 times just to be sure. picked up an extra 6 rd mag with it as well. when i got it home i put 75 rounds of standard federal thru it and then a few mags of speer gold dots 124gr +p. not one single FTF or FTE. Ran like a champ. i was hitting my 8" plates at 15 yards with ease.

A few years back I had two .380 pistols. One was a KT-P3at the other was a Bersa Thunder .380 I also had a XD9sc. When I was fortunate to find a slightly used PM9 I Traded the Bersa for a 30/30 and the XD9 for another pistol. I only kept the P3at for deep CC purposes. The PM9 filled my CC needs so well it afforded me to be able to trade those two pistols off and go in other directions I wanted to go in at the time. In my humble opinion. If your looking for a reliable 9mm CC pistol the CM9/PM9 is the answer. If you think you'd like something a little bigger the CW-9 or Walther PPS-9 are also a very nice pistols. Good luck

u got a really dandy carry peace there my friend, now just shoot it like u stole it:israel:

the nice thing about ur gun is that after 200+ rounds ur gonna think u have a totally different gun than what it felt like at round 1. It willbe smooother, springs have now taken their designed set, hand racking is easier, ur getting used to the trigger shstem, which is smoother than babby sh-t andur accuracy is getting better to. course 8" plates at 15 yards IMO is damn gtreat shooting to. so ur ahead of that learnin g curve that is for sure.
