My Kahr CW has never cycled a full mag with out jamming, always hangs up on the first and second round in the mag. It has been sent back and got a new recoil spring and polished feed ramp (of course) and guess what.... still does the same thing. It is on its second trip back to Kahr, my PM9 has been great but the CW40......what a piece of junk!!

Sorry about yours. Did you buy it new and was it prepped? Mine has been perfect and is my favorite OWB carry gun.

I had a lot of trouble with my CW40, and let another shooter shoot it and he had no problems whatsoever. Have you tried that? I had to change the way I hold the gun and it's bee running great every since.

I have a CW40 that has run perfectly since break in, over 4,000 rounds, all WWB. The other day at the range it began messing up. I have four different mags and each one would experence a nosedive on the second round. I replaced the recoil spring and polished the ramp. At the range yesterday I only had one nosedive, again the second round. I polished the ramp again last night and need to get to the range again to test. Can anyone suggest what I should do next if this does not work?

Have you ever taken your mags apart and cleaned them? After 4000 rounds a mag spring replacement may also be in order.

Check out my fix for the second round nose dive with my P40.

All 4 mags were cleaned first Sharpetop, did not help.
Brent, I'm on the way to the garage to try your suggestion. It can't hurt. I do wonder why this started after so many rounds?
Thanks to all for the suggestions.

johnatw,
You mentioned that you replaced the recoil spring; did you do this before or after the problem began (it does read like you did it post problem)? I ask because Kahr's fix for another forum member's pistol that was having second round nose dives was to shorten the recoil spring.
Another thought was: have you changed how or with what you lube your pistol?

The only thing we've ever had wrong with our CW45 is that with my short little fingers, I keep hitting the slide lock and the slide lock won't lock back after the mag is empty.

Maybe the magazine springs have weakened some???

Good Morning all, Thanks for all the suggestions. I changed the recoil spring after the problem started. The spring was bought 18 mos ago, so it was an old run.
It is possible the mag springs are weak, I have two mags that have had little use, they hold my cc ammo. They will go to the range tomorrow for a test. I have not changed brand of ammo or lube or lube procedures, so I don't think that is a problem. The ocl matches Speers specs in their reload manual. I have studied the ramp under magnification and don't see any dents, worn areas.
I really am grateful for all the suggestions, here is hoping for a good range day tomorrow.

Got my CW40 when I traded in my CM9. I went to the range and got 5 hydroshock rounds through it and a round fired before the pistol went fully into battery. This blew the back of the round off as well as the extractor. My gun dealer sent the weapon back and Kahr kept it three weeks and returned it with a new extractor and a slide stop spring that had been bent by the previous owner. Put 120 rounds through it today without a hickup and I am relieved as I have read many a bad report on this model. I am really hopeful about this pistol and would welcome all to coments.

Should have just got the Glock?
The Glock 27 Gen4 is the best gun in 40 S&W for CCW. It excels in reliability, shootability and serviceability if needed. One sweet weapon.
Kahr's are fantastic weapons if you get a flawless one from the get go. I had ten of them in the beginning of the year and I am presently down to five or six. I have sold them since. All of them were working flawlessly, but I went through hell getting them to function to that level. The only ones that needed no servicing was a K9 black, a K9 Elite 03, a MK9 and a PM9. I had 4 frame replacements, one of them twice, three new barrels, three slides and other odds and ends. But I love them when you get a good one.
Good luck with your CW40. Oh s__t, I just remembered, I did have to get the MK9's slide replaced last year because it cracked.

First: I think TucsonMTB is right on! That's how I got my PM9 to love HST rounds and hasn't choked on a one since.
Second: Border, I'm sorry you have the problem. We can speculate all day but there just isn't enough information to work with and Kahr has it anyway.
Third: John, Since you are going to buy new mag springs I recommend you go to Wolf Springs who supply Kahrs factory springs, and get the stronger springs for mags. To save shipping add the strong recoil spring also. I did that for my PM9 because Jocko said to and haven't been sorry. Chambering that first round from slidestop always had a tiny hitch as the round came off the ramp and the stronger spring helped smooth it out. The stronger mag springs keep the round in the lips tighter and they don't ride forward as much. I'd say Jocko was right on with this one.
Fourth: Goofa, :p! Glock 40's have their own problems and I would never recommend one to a friend. They advertise perfection right out of the box but don't believe it. Until they fully support the .40 round in the chamber I wouldn't have one. Conversely they do make some good guns in other calibers.

Maybe for you, but, oh, never mind. I'm gonna stay out of trouble this time.

Old and cranky, maybe, but not stupid. I've already been banned from two gun forums, including GluckTalk.

Well guys, I'm really confused now. I took all my mags to the range yesterday. The two newest ones worked flawlessly. I'm thinking, I've found the problem. Then I ran my four old mags and they ran flawlessly????? The only thing I had changed was repolishing the ramp a second time. Could I have previously used a box of out of spec WWB ammo? Just to be sure I'm going to follow all of the advice offered to be sure all bases are covered, I can't afford having the gun messing up in a critical situation.
Thanks for all the help and advice.

Enlighten me to the problems of the Glock 22,23 and 27. I myself have all three in Gen4 with just over 3000 rounds between them and NOT ONE FAILURE.
Old Lincoln... Do you have Glock 22, 23 or 27? Have you personally experienced these failures, and if so when?
Many people that purchased any of the Glock 40 S&W's and those that have had issues should never have purchased a 40 S&W of any make. They never had the skills necessary to operate one in the first place. The 40 S&W is not a beginners hangun.
There are LE officers out there that cannot qualify with that load, so they must be content with a 9mm.

Yes, I guess more range time is in order. The exciting thing is I've just bought a Rock Chucker to reload 40 cal ammo. I'm waiting on some minor parts from Midway to get started. My wife asked how safe reloading was, I told her the truth, of course, that a bad load could put out an eye or maim a hand or other body parts or worst of all mess up my CW 40. She called me a name, sounded like retard!

LOL, I'm sorry... but after reading that I can't help but think about that DEA officer's now famous "This is the Glock 40. Fifty Cent, Too Short, all of them talk about a Glock 40, OK? I'm the only one in this room professional enough, that I know of, to carry a Glock 40."
BTW, I'll be sticking with my pre Gen4 G27 as I don't like the big honking mag release they put on the Gen4 version.
