View Full Version : I’m Having a Bad Day!

One of my credit card companies calls this AM
and asks if I bought a laptop online last night?
You know where this is going - CRAP!
Then I pick up my Ameriglo optic orange front sight from UPS.
And drop it off at the gunsmith to install on my black on black Nitron stainless P239/357.
The gunsmith has just returned from vacation
and informs me in his absence something fell on my classic,
nickel plated, P220 and ruined the slide! WTF!
I’m told they will replace the stainless steel slide at no cost.
They have put in a request to Sig Sauer about this,
but not heard back yet.
Ok, this is a like a 14 year old Sig and it’s not stainless.
It’s an out of production two tone version
with nickel plated slide/controls and a steel stamped slide.
I don’t know if the old nickel plated slides are still available?
Or if the newer stainless slides are compatible with the older alloy frames?
Guess I’ll find out what my options are.
I’m willing to upgrade to a newer stainless slide if that’s an option.
Fortunately, I’m not concerned with the collector value of having the gun in original condition.
When I get home from work (blocked now)
I’ll confirm my credit card purchases
and check what options I may have with my cherished P220/45…..

Sounds like a good day to NOT go to the range.
Stay safe, eat slow, and drink little.
Here's to a better tomorrow!

Stay away from bridges, medicine cabinets, or firearms for a few days. Your in a fragile state.
Did they show you the damage to your beloved 220. How bad could it be?
What fell on it that could totally ruin it?

I saw this guy handling your P220 before he slipped and fell on it.....

Hey man, I'm really sorry. The newer SS slides will fit, but they're 4 or 5 ozs heavier that the old one and will change to balance of the pistol. SIG told me last year that the nickel plated slides are no longer available, but they polished mine and the plated frame and they look brand new. Obviously, I have one, a fifteen year old one, but I'm sorry, you can't have it. It's attached to the rest of the gun. :(

Whenever I think I'm having a bad day, I remember a young Marine in the area who was seriously wounded in Iraq.:( I'll skip the details, but when I think of him... all I can say to myself is; "No, you're not really having a bad day. Other people are having bad days".

My favorite hard to find gun parts -
872690 Slide, Stainless $619.05
872350 Slide, Nickel $440.55 SOLD OUT
467030B Slide, Blue $331.70 SOLD OUT
This is going to be fun (NOT)
The gunsmith thought a slide would cost about $200 - LOL!

Just a thought, but if it's the finish that's toast you can it re-plated. How does one go about physically damaging a slide that's sitting on the bench? Sure he can stick it in the hammer press but not likely.

I'm thinking your right. It's just the finish that's FUBAR.
Don't think they really know what it will cost to replace the slide ($200?).
I'm sure they get wholesale rates, but still we are talking Sig Sauer.
I can get the slide and barrel a EXO Fail Zero nickel boron finish for $200.
Refinishing has to be cheaper.
I know the SS slide is heavier and would actually like to switch.
Told the gunsmith I would pay the difference to upgrade to SS.
He said he would work on it and get back to me.
I'm going to let this thing run its course.
Everything happens for a reason.
When you get lemons make lemon aid - LOL!
I try to turn all problems into excuses to upgrade!
Will keep you all posted.
On a happy note the Ameriglo Pro Operator front sight
is going to look outstanding on the nose of the black on black Nitron SS P239/357!

I'm thinking the SS slide will reduce recoil and might make the gun nose heavy.
Flush mag with 185 gr bullets = 7.1 oz
10 round ext w 230 gr bullets =11.4
Eureka, I've got it - LOL!

How well do you know this gunsmith? It sounds like a phony story to me. Could he be pulling the wool over your eyes with a made up story to beat you out of your slide and maybe the whole gun? :puke:

He's done work for me in the past.
large reputable gunshop.
They will take care of me I'm sure.
It's just a freak accident that will be made good on.
If I come out of this with a two-tone, natural stainless slide, gun?-
Then I'll be very happy.
This badness will pass and I'm planning on capitalizing on the experience.
Life is an adventure and I'm going to enjoy it it.
Even if kills me - LOL!
