Early report of development of new Sig P224 pistol for next year!
The P224 is a new platform. SIG explained it is like cutting the length and height off a P229.
The 9 mm version will have a 12-round flush magazine; 10 rounds flush for .40 S&W and .357 SIG.
The platform also takes P229 mags, but these will not fit flush.
Right now, SIG hopes to introduce the P224 at SHOT 2012,
but can’t promise that date as the pistol is still being developed.
We saw a drawing, though, and the gun looks like it will be a hit.

that will be an excellent, somewhat "compact" pistol for anyone that prefers a double stack grip. I have a P239 in .40 S&W that is a marvel of engineering and performance. Still a bit large though for a single stack, but a wonderful pistol.

I hope they don't put accessory rails on it.

yeah, the lack of the rail was what cuaght my eye with the P239. I was suprised and a bit amused when Sig put the silly rail on their first line of 1911 models. One of my best buddies bought one, and other than the rail it is a beautiful pistol, great craftsmanship, reliable, dead nuts acccurate ... he gave up looking for a holster 2 years after he bought it.

I'm hoping it's going to have an abbreviated two finger grip like my Glock G27/40
and Kahr MK40 Elite (Please, please, please).
Always wanted a sub compact P239 like that.
Kind of surprised they chopped the double stack gun though?

I don't like the P250/P290 offerings and look forward to a steel sub-compact Sig.
Let's hope they do it right! (I think H&K already has a two finger grip auto loader now. But I just don't shoot H&K or Beretta well)

2012 is starting to look up
BTW: I already have a older P220/45 and a newer P239/357

And just when I thought I was over buying guns for a while - LOL!
I think this new bad boy will likely be offered in 357 Sig too - Woo Hoo!

I hope they offer it with the DAK trigger as well as the typical DA/SA. I have a P239 with DAK and it's great, once you get used to it.

That seems to be exactly how they made the mock up:D:

Thanks for the video, Greg. Now I know how it will look. I would usually be very interested in a new SIG, being a fan for thirty years, but the proportions Just don't do it for me - it looks like a sub-compact XD 9 or 40, which i never liked. I hope the weight they listed is for a loaded pistol. Thirty-four ozs would make it four ozs heavier than my FS SA 1911 and a full half pound heavier than my full-sized SIG P220 45. I always like the P229 as a shooter but thought it was too big. I'll wait and see, but so far I'm not impressed. Right now I'd have to go with the P239.

Thanks for the video Greg!
I wish they would have chopped the P239 instead, but oh well.
If it comes in DAK, and 357 Sig, I might be getting one!

Thank you for posting the Video, Before I purchased my cm9 I looked at the

If they make a DA/SA model, I might be interested in this one... not too keen on the DAK version myself.

I hope it is more successful than the P250 project

I really haven't tried the DAK and opinions vary.
Love, hate. the usual drama - LOL!

Normally I'm a DA/SA guy.
But my Glock and Kahr triggers have got me
appreciating the same pull every time thingy.

I'm having the action sweetened on both my cherished SA/DA P220
and P239s triggers to even the playing field.

The all stainless steel Kahr MK40 Elite factory DAO trigger
still amazes me everytime I hit the range!

Same with me. I've been shooting SIGs for over 30 years and I'm used to the DA/SA. All my SIGs, HK's, and S&W's have it.[except the M&P c 40] I had SIG do a trigger job on my P220 last year, and I'd estimate the SA pull is less than four pounds - light enough that I had some flyers the first time I shot it. When that gun was stolen last August, I bought another P220 that happened to have the DAK trigger - I didn't like it, and sold it when I found out that the stolen P220 had been recovered. I suppose it's all in what you're use to.

I do, however, like the trigger on my Kahrs, and can shoot them pretty well. That's about the only DAO trigger I've come to grips with, so to speak.
