View Full Version : ItW holster for a P9

I've been on the hunt for a decent ItW holster for my P9, 99% of the time I carry ItW at 1-2oc. I been carrying in a Desantis Pro Stealth for a Glock 26/27, it works well enough but I had to mod the chip to ride the gun where I want and it is loose holding since the Pro Stealth is made for a Glock.
So here is my requirements: since I'm in and out of the holster frequently, I want one clip, a custom fit for the P9, made from natural or "soft" material, high ride position and full gun coverage.
I think I found what I want in the Highnoon "Public Secret" (http://www.highnoonholsters.com/Product_Line/Public_Secret_w_clip/public_secret_w_clip.html) at $89.95.
Any other suggestions? thanks

This is a cheapy but I've been carrying my P9 in it for months and it's very comfortable. The gun almost disappears near the waistband.

I use the 04 size which was for Colt 1911's and Browning Hi-Power's... Fits like a glove.
Ambidextrous Clip on inside the Pant Holster - CountrySidewalk Trading Post Gun & Gift Shop (http://www.shop.countrysidewalk.com/Ambidextrous-Clip-on-inside-the-Pant-Holster-CO.htm)

BlackHawk also makes a synthetic one that fits the P9 like it was made for it. I have it at home and will get you the info later.

Have you ever looked into the Galco Stow-n-Go holster on Kahr's website?

I'll post pics of my holsters later this afternoon.

Thanks, that first one looks like it rides the gun too low...for me at 1-2oc "too low" puts the barrel where I don't want it to be :o
The the other hand that Galco Stow-n-Go looks perfect and it will save me $50+ over the Highnoon.

I like the look of the Galco too. I bet you'd like the BlackHawk holster too. I will check the exact model number when I get home and post it up. It keeps the gun higher and it's made of a very soft material.

I bought an Ace holster from CTD (http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ZAA830-33.html) when I use it on the 2 o' clock position. I like it because you can tuck your shirt with it
is cheap and well made( hey is an option) this guy from you tube talks a bit about it YouTube - Gun Stuff: CheaperThanDirt Order (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiNrT-TPvcA). Hope this helps.

That's a good looking holster for the price. I may have to try one out.

That is very nice holster and like better that the kindex one, but unfortunately, the market condition obligates one to look for economical alternatives.

I grabbed one of those Ace holsters from CtD awhile ago(used for a PF9) just because it was $10. For some reason it never felt comfortable, I believe the band on the muzzle end kept digging into me....I ended up giving it away with an EAA Witness I sold off.
It just so happens that yesterday I got shipping confirmation for a $30 MIR I'm getting on a PC component I purchased in the fall, it is coming as a Visa card. $30 is the price of the Galco Stow-n-Go.....I'm going to take this as a sign :)
The Galco Stow-n-Go has good reviews an looks pretty much to the same as the $90 Highnoon I was going to buy..
Thanks all for the help and suggestions

My only gripe with the Stow-n-Go is that they only make them for right handed application.

Here are the two I use most often right now.

The one on the left is a BlackHawk size 01. The one on the right is a KNJ size 04. The MK9 and P9 are interchangable with the either holster with the barrel length being the only difference.

FYI the KNJ will also fit my P45.

Any idea where I can find that KNJ holster? I can only find the ones with the thumb break strap. I detest thumb break straps. Also is that a size 4 or 4a?

I know the people that have them luv them....but for me, I don't want Kydex and they are to big and complicated. I'm looking for a simple one clip, soft, thin and/or natural material design holster

I bought the BlackHawk one from BassPro shops. I believe it was only $14.95. Here's a link to the where you can find a KNJ without the thumb break. I prefer a holster without it too.

I do not like kindex at all, I prefer leather and as you indicated any "simple one clip, soft, thin and/or natural material design holster" and of course affordability into the formula.:4:

I've carried my P9 in a Crossbreed Super Tuck (horse hide) for the past 2 years and put all the other holsters in storage, not the cheapest but the holster still shows no sign of wear.

I had a concern that the kydex may cause wear on the slide, to date I have not seen any. It took a month to get the cant and depth seated correctly for me (the holster is adjustable for both).

A bonus for me was it also fits my K9's and CW9, one holster for 4 pistols and like everyone else that finds something that works for them, I think it's the best combination, in my humble opinion, of course.

They have a 30 day return policy and the one time I called customer service for new belt clips they were friendly.

That's my 2 cents, good luck in your search.

My vote is with the Crossbreed Super Tuck. I have one for the Browning Hi-Power and carried my new CW9 in the holster last Friday. The Kahr fits like the holster was made for the pistol! I think for a CCW holster it is the best for really hiding the pistol. I may trim the holster for a better draw for both the Kahr and Hi-Power.

I know people love the crossbreed supertuck, but like all holsters, it's a matter of opinion and comfort. I tried the crossbreed after all the great reviews and found it uncomfortable, it seemed to pinch my skin...just not for me.:behindsofa:

Holsters are so subjective, what works for one may or may not work for another, that's why many of us end up with a drawer full of holsters.....sad to say.

I do agree that holsters are a very individual thing. We all search for the perfect pistol, belt and holster. That's what makes it such fun. Sometimes my wife does not understand when I accessorize!

I could not pass up the deal on these holsters either. I have one for my CW9 and I used it for almost 6 months before I bought a www.jndtactical.com (http://www.jndtactical.com) holster. I still use the ACE when I am leaving in a hurry or when I feel the spirit move as such. I have on e for a few of my other weapons too. For 10 buck they are very good. Mine was very comfortable but I wear it at 3:30.

Just to update you all on this.
First the good: I found the holster I was looking for: Don Hume Clip-On IWB Holster with a Thumb Break (http://www.gunnersalley.com/product/H715MTB/Don_Hume_IWB_ClipOn_Holster_wThumb_Break_H715M_TB. html) I was able to order it in black, RH and custom fit for the P9 at a reasonable $35.

Now the bad: The Visa rebate card I planned to use didn't go through when I placed the order, when I called they are out of town at the SHOT show until Monday. Hopefully tomorrow, I can get this ordered up and wrapped up.

I carry my P9 daily in an MTAC. It is so slim and comfortable, it just disappears. It is great with slacks and a good belt, and if I am running out to the store with a pair of basketball shorts on it fastens fine to the waistline. Now I will say it would be tough to draw fast with the BB shorts on, but it is still comfortable and unseen.

I was able to complete my order and use my Visa gift card over the phone. Too my disappointment they didn't have that one in stock, it could take up to 3 weeks. I'll post pics and impressions when its here.

I have the Don Hume 715 *without* the thumb break for my XD9sc and like it a lot. I just ordered one for my CW9.

Up to now retention has not been an issue for me--especially with holsters like the Don Hume 715 which are molded to the gun--so none of my holsters have a thumb break. If I was in law enforcement or some other type of work where I was more active I might change my tune though.

I want the thumb break more for the "wrap" around the pistol it provides, to protect it from my skin and dings more than retention.

I ordered the Don Hume 715 because they're in stock, but yesterday I went ahead and broke down and ordered a:

D.M. Bullard Dual Carry (http://estore.websitepros.com/1565531/Detail.bok?no=408).

It will probably take a month or more so I'll use the Don Hume 715 and JIT until then.

I have a Bullard Bandit for my P238 and the build quality is excellent. I also own a CrossBreed MiniTuck for my P238 but I prefer the look and feel of leather so I'm giving this Bullard a shot.

My Don Hume H-517 black w/thumb break arrived last night. First impressions are good, it is a high quality piece with a formed perfect fit for the P9. I was settled in wearing sweats when I finally got to it and I want to allow for a little break-in time before I go shouting off about it ;)

Wearing this holster is super comfortable.....It is much thinner than the Desantis Stealth I was using and rides the pistol high, so it doesn't dig the muzzle in at all. I never realized how much difference a good holster can make.

I know...everyone loves the comfort and goodness of the double hook style MTAC, Crossbreed etc.....As I said in the very first post those types of holsters don't fit my carry needs and wants, so no matter how good they are I won't use one. This Don Hume, however fits the bill perfectly

I personally love the double hooks - but I also NEVER said that those are BETTER FOR YOU than the Don Hume. There's an amazing selection out there, and the Don Hume holsters are amazing for the money to get started into the decent holsters out there, and work very well. ;) Heck, I use a Don Hume for my P3AT - the hip holster works great for that, as well as for pocket carry.
