View Full Version : Can I tell when my Kahr was made by serial #?
I just got a new PM45 in today and was wondering if there is anyway that I can tell when it was made by how the serial number is coded?

If you bought at an active dealer who had a hard time keeping that model in stock, odds are very high that the gun was made within 45 days of when you received it.
Give CS a call, they may be willing to tell you at least a month and year.

Theres a sticky by Cappy that lists some. Also something on Glock Talk I heard,(read).
Wanting to know the DOB of my PM9 purchased in July of this year, I sent Kahr CS an e-mail and received a reply with a couple of hours with the month, day and year of mfg.
Contrary to what some here may say or think, Kahr CS does know a little something about their products and they are glad to share if they can. ;)

I can confirm,
I called CS with a serial about a gun I was putting on order from a store outside of my locale, and they told everything I needed to know about the firearm I was purchasing.
Cheers!

I emailed CS and they got back to me within minutes with the born on date. I just got my PM9 last week, and it was made in Feb. so it is older than 45 days...Mike

Its odd,
The one I ordered is from a very busy store, yet was made last year.
Who knows why they have this one, but the price is right and I get to inspect before I pay the balance when I pick it up this saturday ;)

It probably depends on the supplier, not the gun store. The wholesaler may buy 100 or more at a time. Depending on how fast they sell, they could sit on his shelf for some time..It's all good, though..Mike

Every shop gets their guns from a distributor so there's no telling how they rotate their stock. Some shops have so much inventory they can't keep track of it and have stuff they don't even know about.
I ordered a gun from my local LE shop and they said 4 to 6 weeks. They called the next day and said come get it, we found one in the basement. New unopened package. Forgot they had it.
They seem to have gone computer now and have a better handle on things but I bet they still got a ton of treasures hidden in the nooks and crannies.
This is also why most new guns come all oily as heck. They never know how long they will sit in a warehouse or a dealer before they are taken out and given the love they so sorely deserve. Makes me cry, all these homeless guns I could be nurturing and loving and fondling with code words for hot chicks and well I could do all that. Might even be my forte. I gotta find a forte. The clocks ticking and I gotta find one.
