View Full Version : Slide stop lever options?

All,

Below is the manner in which I grip my CM9, I am having an issue with the snap of every shot where the slide stop lever rather sharply digs into my right thumb. Most of my other firearms' slide stop levers are more rounded and are not abrasive at all. Does anyone know if Kahr or another manufacturer makes different options for the CM9 slide stop lever?

TIA!

I hold my right thumb down and away from the lever with my left thumb overlapping the right.

Others have filed or sanded or used a Dremel to smooth down the offending protrusions. There are many posts on this subject on this forum.

That's what I did. My hold is very much similar to yours. I filed and rounded the stop and the issue went away.

As Wyn said a dremel or a file, whatever you got will do. Easy to polish up when you get what you want. If you goof, not that bad to get a new one and start over again.

On plus for the stainless guns, you can do this stuff without refinishing.

And it's shiny.

Here's the thread where I did mine. There are several others.

GB Greg did a real clean rounding and smoothing job in another thread.

Just search slide stop or slide stop mod and there are about a dozen threads.

Mine tore my right thumb up as well, but it is only after shooting 100 rounds or so. I sanded all of the sharp edges off, but it still hurts after 100 or so rounds. I figured I am only putting that many rounds down range once a month, so I just go with it. Chicks love scares....

The most simple and least expensive solution to the problem is to change your grip. I position my strong hand (R) thumb inline with the mag release and my weak hand thumb is positioned below the strong hand thumb. This gives me a full 1" of clearance. Neither thumb puts any side pressure on the grip. With this grip I am capable of shooting 2" groups at 21' and have no problem controlling the pistol.

TIA! :cool:I hold mine nearly the same except my thumbs point forward and parallel to the bore line. It sure looks like you are riding the slide. If so, slowing it down will cause malfunctions.

Wynn:)Does your grip style have anything to do with also shooting revolvers? Just curious.

I only have one... the H&R 929 and I haven't shot it in years.

No, I developed that technique to keep my thumb off the slide lock lever AND the magazine release button, which can smart on my PM45. It works for me. I never had a problem with the slide lock lever, but that danged mag-release button could hurt with recoil.

I just ran across this in the latest American Handgunner Digital Magazine Jan/Feb 2012

Maybe she went with the overlapped thumbs after dinging her thumb.

That is a very cool picture. For me, I have no problems with parallel thumbs, keeping my right under and barely touching the lever and my left forward on the frame just like I shoot my bigger s&w 4513

Wynn, I'm guessing this is the grip that Bawanna referred to as your "perfected" grip in another thread to help me teach my wife to grip her SP101. I never paid much attention to my own grip, but next range trip I'll see how close I am to holding my PM9 like this. Great pic!

Here's an intro video (http://www.sabretactical.com/Paul_Video/paul_video.html):Impressive. I like how this is so suited to inside a car in either direction. The reload technique looks very efficient. Great for cross dominant eye shooters. Any downside?

Anyone taken the training?
