Hi all,

First I would just like to say thank you to all the member here at Kahr talk, you guys have been great and certainly made me feel welcome when I came here to ask questions before my purchase, the small community vibe going on here just makes this a fun place to talk guns.

I had done a lot of research regarding the Kahr PM9, and I must admit, I was a bit skeptical after reading all the threads of issues, but I decided to take the plunge and go for it any way. I went through countless threads discussing random things to look out for, springs, mags, lube charts, pre-prep etc, and I followed those pointers to the letter.

So today I got my PM9 in black stainless factory "Meprolights":

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v401/toxik99/PM9/pm9-4.jpg

resisted the urge to go take it right away to the range and instead went home and did the entire prep, I racked this thing prob 600+ times till it was smooth, then stripped it all down, cleaned with nitro and re-oiled, then racked some more till I literally had a blister on the web on my thumb and hand lol.

Aesthetics wise, the gun is perfect, the rolling is perfect, no hard edges, there is no oddities, and the sights look at picture great, I use the same sights on my HK.

I would like to comment, the mags that came with this gun are stamped "MK" and both the 6 round and 7 round drop clean on their own with no resistance. I have one extra mag I ordered stamped 9-6 and this one does not drop clean, I looked at the back of the mags and notice the welds are different, the MK have a smooth weld with no protrusion, while the 9-6 has a small noticeable bump running along the seem, I assume this is the cause of the slight sticking that happens.

I also tried loading the 7 rounder which looked like the bullets were not seated properly, after breaking the mag down I found the spring was installed improperly and the spring head was not the same angle as the follower and in fact was the opposite, so thanks the to the mag thread I promptly flipped it over and sealed it back up.

After everything was complete and ready to go I headed off to the local indoor range. grabbed 4 silhouettes and 200 rounds of 115gr PMC 9MM. I also brought a half box of Hornady critical defense 115gr and also Hornady TAP 124gr.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v401/toxik99/PM9/pm9-5.jpg

With that all said, I am completely blown away.. my range trip was flawless!

I used both the 6 round mag and the 7 round alternating between each both of 50 rounds. the both worked absolutely perfect, not a single issue what so ever.

I was running counts of 5 rounds so I could keep track and make a note of how each reload was and what count I was currently on. Out of all 200 range loads, I had "zero" failures to feed, "zero" failures to eject and not a single time did the slide not lock back at the end of the mag, the 200 rounds I put through was absolutely flawless.

During these two hundred rounds, I was even able to slingshot rounds into the chamber. I fired in both a standard two handed thumbs forward and a single right hand at varying stages of the two hundred.

When it came time to throw a few of the Hornady's down line, I had zero issues with either round, they both loaded, ejected and fired perfectly fine. This was my first time shooting the critical defense round as I usually edc the TAP round, but I was surprised at how the recoil actually felt more controlled than even the PMC range round, just interesting.

I brought it home stripped it down, this gun gets dirty! 200 rounds was crazy looking, it needed a serious cleaning lol, all is back to normal, I followed the lube chart and it looks great and like new again.

All in all, I could not have asked for a better range day with a brand new gun, I will say, the trigger as noted is a smooth deliberate pull, I am going to have to work on it, I was doing fine getting all my bullets at center mass, I did not work on accuracy much, but I did work on getting used to the trigger pull, I figured if I am going to shoot 200 rounds in the name of breaking the gun in, I may as well practice a little along the way.

I found all my shots to be high and to the left, with one mag I did try and be a little more accurate but even then I was unable to zero in a bullseye hah, I have to see the chart and figure out what high left means.

Here is a target, 50 rounds @ 7 yards during the first 200, both eyes open and a steady rate of continuous fire per mag, its enough to get the job done but clearly displays the high left pushing going on.

Anyway, thanks for all the info and most of all those threads of prep.

Thank you again all, now instead of all the research I can chill out and become a casual chatter.

Cheers!

Great report!! Seems the more folks do a solid job on the prep the better the initial reports are. Glad it is working for you!

sfla99..Congrats on the new PM9 and the great range report. I was skeptical myself, and had the same concerns as you. After 200 rounds on Thursday, I am a believer, as well. Glad to hear that you are a satisfied customer..Mike

Now if I can just learn to control the trigger with out pushing it, I am going to work on that, the double action only nature of this gun is easy to shoot, but clearly different than the DA/SA I am used to shooting ala Sig / HK.

Cheers!

Awesome report glad everything went good. I too was a bit skeptical since I've never owned a Kahr or non of my buds had one I could play with before laying down the cash. All manufacturers have people complaining about various things so I dove in head first after my first Kahr and wow am I glad I did. After a good clean and lube and a couple hundred hand cycles it performed flawlessly and continues to do so although I only have 75 rounds throgh it so far. Been really busy lately and it's killing my fun time but that's about to change soon and I'll have more time to devote to fun stuff like trying to wear out my new PM9:w00t:

I'm a Sig shooter and had an adjustment to make as well. But it won't take more than another 100 rounds or so and you will wish your other guns had as good a double action trigger. You'll be pleasantly surprised at how accurately the little gun can be shot.

Glad you like your PM9. Great report. I'm really not suprised that it shot flawlessly for you and shot everything you put through it. The trigger just takes some gettting used to and I'm sure you'll figure it all out with a little more range time. I'm left handed, I personally found that I was kind of pushing the trigger to the right instead of straight back do to the small size of the gun. I corrected this by feeling like I was to the pulling the trigger to the left or towards my hand. After a while it became a natural feeling when shooting the PM9. Larger pistols this is not a problem.

Good luck

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies! Yes this gun is definitely a keeper.

I gotta admit though, more range time is needed, out of 200 rounds I had good accuracy, but no matter what I was high and left, according to the chart thats pushing and trigger adjustment required.

I was using snap-caps last night to try and slowly watch the sight picture of each trigger pull and I did notice a slight push in the scope picture, I am guessing that slight push on gun this size is enough to cause 3-4" in accuracy.

I spent a while trying to adjust my trigger pull and see what could comfortably correct the issue and think I am closer, but no doubt, more range time is needed "not that its not a perfect excuse to go back to the range haha!".

With that said, the gun is great to shoot, it feels like the most accurate micro I have handled yet even with my pushing it. I shot yesterday only at both 5 & 7 yards during the break in period, I was mostly just trying to get through the 200 since the wife was sitting outside the window of the range reading and waiting on me to finish ;)

Now I just need to decide to laser or no laser also, I like the idea of the CT since it fits the gun so well, but have never used a laser and am not entirely sold on the fact that should I ever (hopefully not) need to draw or possibly fire, will my emotions completely take over and I will resort to basic instincts and training and just use the natural point and shoot or get a sight picture and shoot.

I am not sure I would even notice the tiny red dot unless it was a scenario of draw & command before action.

Thanks again!

PM9 is a winner all the way around. I've had mine over a year, and never had a failure either. Just put another hundred down the pipe yesterday without one hiccup. It's a great feeling, isn't it.

Well, you can improve your accuracy or draw a bigger circle! I shoot 5 dot targets and as long as it's inside the largest circle (6"?) it would hit the aggressor. I can shoot tighter but it takes longer and my own personal thoughts are that first one hit often looses even if it is 2" off center. I know all the arguments about accuracy but there's a point where it's good enough and time to work on speed to first shot and follow ups.

I cured my shooting low and left by sighting with both eyes open. That for some reason brought the hits to the center line.;)

+1 These are designed to be SD pistols, not target pistols. I practice point shooting with a couple mags every trip to the range as well as some target shooting for accuracy. The PM9 is a very good point shooting pistol with it's 1911 grip angle. Works for me very well.

I have only been shooting at 7 yards. With both eyes open and using a 2" red bullseye I can get 3 out of 10 in the red with most of the others in a 4" circle. I can consistantly do this with my CM9 off hand shooting 1 (one) handed and unsupported. That is pleanty good for my self defense.:biggrin1:

The silhouette I show in the pictures on page 1 I am guessing is about a 10" width, with that said the 50 rounds in the target are point and shoot with both eyes open at 7 yards. I actually feel rally good about the results considering it was the first time ever shooting the gun, and the grouping is basically within 4" but I would like to work on the control enough to get similar results but in dead center mass ;)

Like i mentioned, just need a little bit of practice with the trigger and I think it will work out to be n amazing little gun.

So far I am extremely pleased ;)

Cheers!

There's been several reports on the Forum about finding the mag spring was in backwards. How is this determined and what do you compare it with to tell that it is indeed in backwards? And is it very difficult to dismantle the mag to get the spring out?

Allen, you do need to take it down to check the spring. Once apart laying the spring along the mag the spring direction evident.

To take the mag down, which you need to do someday anyway, push the button while pushing the bottom plate toward the front. MAKE SURE you cover the opening because it is a spring under pressure and will fly away. The first time you do this you should slip something through the holes in the side near the bottom. This insures the spring stays in place but the inside bottom plate can still pop out. Putting it back is like loading one of those jack in the box type spring things. You have to push the spring in followed by the inside plate then the outside plate. Be sure to have the button pointing the right way.

It's harder to type than actually do it so don't be alarmed.
