For anyone who is interested in this kind of thing, here's my bag that I keep in my truck in case of an emergency. It's really geared toward me having to hike home in case of an EMP. Currently it is at 27.5 lbs and I still need to add a few things.

http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/2984/dscn2381u.jpg

Set of BDU's, boots, boonie hat, stocking cap, field jacket, underwear, chest rig, and drop leg holster. I need to get a few pairs of boot socks and thermal underwear.

http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/9348/dscn2373zy.jpg

Stuff to start a fire.

http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/8908/dscn2374f.jpg

Water storage and purification.

http://img830.imageshack.us/img830/6118/dscn2375m.jpg

Shelter

http://img638.imageshack.us/img638/5350/dscn2376s.jpg

Food - enough for 72 hours

http://img803.imageshack.us/img803/9229/dscn2377u.jpg

Miscellaneous stuff

http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/9691/dscn2378i.jpg

First Aid

http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/6739/dscn2380s.jpg

As soon as I find a Sub 2000, it plus 100 rounds will be added to the kit and of course whatever handgun I happen to be wearing at the time and extra ammo. Not pictured are my boots, machete, and 32 bottles of water that I keep in my truck.

Very impressive Melissa,
I can't tell, is the vest bulletproof?
I picked up a new light weight Bianchi IIIA police vest earlier this year.

We are talking Apocalypse/Red Dawn stuff right?

Awesome load-out! I'm in the beginning stages of getting together a bail-out bag myself. I need to find a good three day bag.

No, that vest is not bulletproof. I do have one though. Do you think I should keep the bulletproof vest in my truck too?

I don't know where you live.
But the vests don't do well with heat.
I wouldn't advise keeping one in your truck.
Mine's in my closet to deal with unwanted visitors.

I'm on an emergency search and rescue team.
We carry stuff like wrenches to turn off gas lines. Pruning shears, leather-man,
work gloves and other stuff. I've got a completely loaded EMT bag too.
Am Emergency First Aid/CPR Defibrillator certified as well.
Paramedics have training for civilians that's very good.

I'm just saying, between us Apocalypse types you and I - LOL!

Update:
Ordered a second Maglula UpLULA Pistol Magazine Loader for my bag too.
Midway is having a sale $25 expires 11/30

Melissa, hell of an idea putting the survival handbook in the bugout bag. It seems like a no brainer, but I never thought of it, just read em and put em away. The biggest difference between my bag and yours is I went with less food and more first aid gear. Where I live is rural enough that I could probably live off squirells and other critters for a while. I have heard you talk about that Sub 2K several times. Would you mind explaining why your so excited about it? Is it because it folds up? I keep my AR in my truck for work, so I have that, but I would definitely like a rifle with more than pistol caliber fire power. I am always open to new ideas ans others opinions though.

I like the idea of the Sub2k because it folds and because it can use Glock magazines. That means only having to carry 9mm for the carbine and for my handgun. I've got 3 33-round mags ready for the Sub2k. I can fold that baby up and hide it in my truck easier than my AR. Also, even though I haven't held a Sub2k, I would think it would weigh less than my AR. Hopefully, I can find one at the gun show next weekend.

I was too focused on the 9mm in a carbine, but thinking about it, I would much rather have an MP5 (amazing weapon system) in combat than my M&P 9, so a 9mm carbine would work. I don't have any glocks currently so the dual magazines wouldn't apply. I also have not held the 2k, but I would agree that it looks very light. I will have to go check one out.

Just a thought, but you could do either an SBR AR or an AR "pistol/firearm". I have both. I did the "firearm" when the ATF changed their interpretation of the rules lately on having front pistol grips for guns over 26"; and also stated that the buffer tube with a cap on the end is not a stock. You can set up a non-NFA gun that is pretty easy to shoot, but still as short as an SBR. Mine is actually 29", but still pretty handy. It gets me a full rifle caliber gun and of course shares mags/accessories with my ARs. No extra paperwork like my SBR required. I am not a big fan of the Kel-tec stuff. Just seems cheap in terms of materials. I know many people have Sub 2000s and do not complain. YMMV I suppose.

My wife keeps a "get out of D.C." bag under her desk at work, (5 blocks from the White House). One of the items she keeps is cash; $100 in her wallet as emergency cash and a couple rolls of quarters. My biggest fears for her are a dirty bomb, a truck bomb or a takeover by shooters. The heads of her business do practice drills, but being in D.C., she is unable to be armed. I can't wait until she's able to retire.

Knowing you a little bit from this forum I'm surprised no compact "Two Edged Sword" or maybe just the book of Psalms. Might mean more than all rest of the stuff combined.

I'm not really wild about Keltec either, but I've read really good reviews on the Sub2k. I'll also take a look at an AR pistol. Thanks for suggesting that.

I did some research on the Sub 2k today. I want one! It looks like a blast to shoot, and a capable enough weapon. However, I still think that you leave the pistol calibers for your pistols, and use your rifle to bring the heat and keep your distance. The AR pistol is a great option for the size and weight. The trusty old AK with a folding wire stock is small, but heavier. I think I found a neat compromise in the kel tec SU 16D. It is a short barrel 5.56 that folds in half, and weighs 4.7 lbs with 30 round mag. Only problem is I do not believe they are on the market yet, but their big brothers go for about $575. If weight is a big concern it might be worth looking in to. Just my $.02.

I bought three 22 round Big Sticks and a ballistic belt pouch for my G27.
That's my short barreled, pistol caliber, AK LOL!

Unless I missed it, I would throw in a decent compass.

My little truck bag is much smaller, but consisits of a S&W 642 and extra Bianchi speed strip, compass, magnesium fire starter, a WWII little can opener, a lockback knife, and a 200 lumen Surefire G2XPro flashlight. I figured that would get me started. I also keep other stuff in the truck that would go with me as well.

Definitley need to add a Bible.

In the 1st picture, the little key chain hanging from the bag is a combination compass and thermometer. Not sure how good it is though. Found it at the Coleman outlet.

Thanks! I've been working on that and have added a personal hygiene baggie with a sample size toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, deodorant, lotion, soap, and shampoo. Also, in the miscellaneous picture, the little purple packs are wet wipes.

Just added more to my food supply: packet of tuna, chewing gum, individual packets of coffee, creamer, sweetened koolaid, and butterscotch candy.

Added more to my first aid baggie: anti-diarrhea tabs, cold & allergy tabs, tweezers.

Decided to add a lightweight tent...2 lbs and ditch my folding shovel.

Melissa, here is a reply I got from Kel-Tec about the lack of availability of Sub 2000s, and my reply to them.

Hi Ericka,

Well, doesn't this backorder situation suggest that you increase production of this model? A lot?!

Thanks,

John

Hi John,

We’re still making them regularly; it’s just that there’s many on backorder. We divide them evenly between our 30 wholesalers every month, but they have long backorder lists that need to be filled before they can fill newer orders. Since we ship to wholesalers, then they to dealers, there’s no way for us to know where or when they will ship the firearms. If you’ve placed an order or are looking to, it will depend on which wholesalers your dealer uses (or hopefully, multiple), if they still have backorders to fill before filling newer orders, as well as how many the wholesalers have on order with us.

* Unfortunately, we only sell only to the wholesalers, then they to the dealers, so I don’t have the listings you need. I can only suggest online or the phonebook and calling them to find out if they carry or can order what you’re looking for.

Thanks,
Ericka

Jfootin, I would think they would increase production until they had a surplus in their warehouse. The sub2k seems to be a hot commodity at the moment. Hopefully, I will find one at the gun show tomorrow.

Melissa, If you are looking for a K-T sub 2000 as of last Sunday "Range, Guns, and Safes" 4025 Pleasantdale Rd Bldg 100 Atlanta, Ga 770-447-8900 had two of them 1 in .40 and I'm not sure of the other or the price...Not too far from you if you just have to have one...Was there shooting and saw one on display and they are a nice looking rifle and now I want one among with about a dozen other guns I can't afford...

They replied and said they can't squeeze any more employees into their present facility. So, they are looking for a larger place.

Great pics and info Melissa. I'm now motivated to put a bug out bag together.
I have a 9mm Glock compatible KT sub2000 and my son has a KT SU16 in 5.56. Both fold, are very light (about 4lbs each), accurate, very affordable and have been flawless thru about 500 rounds each. My other son's DPMS AR15 has also been excellent so far. All 3 would come in handy in a SHTF scenario. Of course we also have other assorted weapons/calibers in "The Family". BTW I recently saw where Kel-tec is in the top 3 in sales volume among U.S. gun makers.

Well, there were no 9mm Sub2k's at the gun show today. I did see one in .40 though. I sold my Colt OACP and my Beretta Jetfire .25. No, Bawanna, I didn't sell your grips with the Colt. :) Now I have cash for more race gun parts and the Sub2k when I find one. I did buy a few goodies at the show - a wicked looking knife (cheap and made in China), a tactical vest with pouches for AR mags, handgun mags, a holster, other pouches I'm not sure what to put in, a .50 ammo can, and a para-cord bracelet. The can will hold (20) 50 round boxes of 9mm. So I had a pretty good day. Hope ya'll did too.

Good to hear. I was able to fondle the .40 sub2000 and was very impressed with how light it was. Maybe I should have invested in Kel-tec instead of S&W.
