Hello,
I purchased a PM9 about a month ago for my CCW permit.

Went to the range and had 50 good rounds and then a series of FTF's and FTE's
also the slide would not lock.
Went home to clean it and the slide locked up when I tried to get it off.

Sent it back to Kahr, they returned it about 16 days later, saying it was fixed.
Went to the range today, tried a couple of different kinds of ammo.
The PM9 worked very well.
Went home, watched the disassemble video(I had done that before and also have a Kahr K40)to make sure I was doing it correctly.
The slide locked again after taking the slide lock pin out.
Now I cannot take the slide off.I saw a sticky about using a paper clip to try to move the cam.All that happens is the hook on the end of the clip straightens out.
Does anyone have any ideas how to unlock the slide?
Does anyone know anyone who works on them in Northern California?
I really don't want to send it back again. But if I can't clean and lube it it is worthless to me.I don't understand how Kahr can charge the price they do and make a gun that is so hard to break down and clean.

I noticed for myself the slide has a spot where the trigger disengages the slide, are you pulling the trigger at the specific point to unlock the slide?

I am a new PM9 owner myself and noticed this one one of the oddities I experienced while breaking it down.

Are you pulling the trigger while moving the slide forward off of the frame?

I try to pull the trigger but the slide is locked and will not come off.
I have a k40 and know how that comes apart(supposedly similar)

Forgive me if I don't have the situation right. I had my slide do that when it was new. What I discovered was to grab the slide and pull it forward while pulling the trigger. It had to ride over something the engage the cam and letting go of the trigger allowed it come the rest of the way off. The trick was to keep forward pressure on it and remember it is a 2 staged process with the trigger. One to get it part way and letting go of the trigger to let it come off.

If that's not it I don't know. But there's a lot I don't know so it's not unusual.

Is the slide locked up tight (no movement at all) or can you move it enough to get the slide stop back in?

Greg

Sorry for the confusion.
The slide is locked up tight. It is moved foward alittle less than 1/4".
when I pull the trigger the slide moves to the rear slightly.

...when I pull the trigger the slide moves to the rear slightly.
That sounds like the cocking cam is still engaged with the striker (or is caught on some part of the slide).
Try this:
Push the slide to the rear of the frame and hold it there (hopefully it will go back far enough that it's in the position it would be if the gun was ready to fire).
With the slide held to the rear, pull the trigger and hold it to the rear (again hopefully, you should hear/feel the striker go forward).
Continue to hold the trigger to the rear and try moving the slide forward and off the frame.
Alternatively, check that the plate on the rear of the slide is completely seated up into the slide. It should ride high enough that it will pass over the cocking cam when the trigger is held to the rear.

Greg

My PM9 will do the same unless I push down on the barrel hood while pulling the trigger.

I got it off!!! WHEW!!

Using a couple of well timed blows with a piece of Trex while pulling the trigger.

Man,I don't want to do that again.

Any Suggestions for future dissassembly.

Do I pull the trigger all the way back before I pull the slide stop pin out?

It's alot more difficult than my K40 to take apart.

Thanks for the Help Guys!!

"Do I pull the trigger all the way back before I pull the slide stop pin out?"
Yes, you do.
I did have the issue like yours once when I first disassembled my PM9 a while back but never again
These are the steps I do now and they work flawlessly:
1) take out the mag
2) pull the slide back a little to line up the "half moon" spot
3) push the "take down" pin out
4) pull the trigger back and hold it
5) move the slide forward to take it out of the frame.

Insert between 1 & 2 = 1a) Pull slide back to check for loaded ammo in the chamber.;)

That should be "No, do not", but the rest of kahrlover123's post is spot on, especially with IKeo74's addition.

So you end up with:
1) take out the mag and pull slide back to check for loaded ammo in the chamber.
2) pull the slide back a little to line up the "half moon" spot
3) push the "take down" pin out
4) pull the trigger back and hold it

Tip: If the pin comes out fairly easily, you can push on it with your right index finger while pulling the slide back with your left hand. When it hits the initial spot that it can move a tad, it pops out enough to hold the slide open to that point. Then you can change hand position and move the slide with your right hand and pull the pin the rest of the way out when it aligns. This makes the take down so easy.

Good News!
I reassembled my PM9 with a newly purchased Wolfe #20 recoil spring and some sanding and polishing.

The Wolfe spring is about 1/4-3/8" shorter than the stock Kahr spring.

The assembly and action of the gun was much smoother.

Went to the range and the gun ate 125 rounds of two kinds of ammo flawlessly.

Came home, was worried about disassembly , but the gun came apart almost as easily as my K40.

I'm very impressed with the Wolfe spring, the stock spring seemed to make everything so tight.I highly recommend it.

On Wednesday I'm going to add it to my permit.

Thank You all for the help and suggestions. They really helped.
