It was wet in Atlanta today, so I couldn't work. I decided it would be a good day to run a few rounds through the Kimber, so I packed up and headed for the range. I knew I was in trouble when I got there because there were at least 25 Gwinnett County police cars around the building. I went in and they were lined up three deep at every lane - must be the qualification season. I never saw so many Glock 22's in one place in my life. It was a little scary for someone who doesn't care for Glocks so I left after a little conversation with the help in the store.
Hmmmmm....... 25 LEO's with loaded guns all in the same room? Yikes!

Very wise decision!
I went to the range last night and it was packed too.

I've run into that a couple times as well... then realized I should have checked the schedule before driving there.

If it were our local PD, nobody is safe unless they stand behind the target. In actual gunfights they score less than 5% hits and misses go absolutely everywhere. How can you shoot at a guy standing 15' in front of you and hit a car that's behind you? They did! Also the house next door and peppered the daylights out of this guys house from sid to side plus a neighbor's house.
If you wonder why they clear the entire block before approaching a bad guy, it is this.

Like Ron White says about an after shooting incident interview by the Chief of Police to the Officer involved in the shooting...
Chief: Well Murphy what happened?
Murphy: I emptied my 16 round service pistol at the perp and reloaded and fired 16 more shots at POINT BLANK RANGE!!!
Chief: Then what happened?
Murphy: He left...

It sorta make you wonder why they even bother qualifying. They were sure practicing up a storm today. You can hear the gunshots behind the building where I was parked, and there was a continuous roar of 40 cal's as I was leaving.

I went today also. The range is divided off into 3 sections of 5 lanes a per section. First section of lanes 1 thru 5 were blocked off for police today. I was in lane 8 so no problem. Did a little 25 yd shooting today with the CZ75 B and the Glock 26. Also took the scope off my Mini 14 and sighted the iron sights in at 25 yds. I'll have to wait to sight it in farther than that but at least it gave me a distance to start from. Sighted it in so POA is actually a little low from point of bullet impact so I'm probably pretty good out to 50 yds or more. Also took a 10/22 with me to do a little plinking with. Not to bad of a day considering it was raining all day.

I've run into that a couple times as well... then realized I should have checked the schedule before driving there.I know of two set reserved blocks of time, but still call ahead. I figure the Border Patrol and the Sheriff's need to practice more than I do.
Kidding guys, don't shoot.

If you wonder why they clear the entire block before approaching a bad guy, it is this. The FBI keeps stats on shootings and the norm is 20% of all fired rounds hit the intended target. Remember, guys are shooting back, shooters and their targets are moving, shooting through windows; it can't be easy.
On the other hand, I just read about a private citizen who competes and practices monthly, took out a guy robbing Walgreens in Omaha, Nebraska. One of his rounds went down the bad guys shotgun barrel! Not only nice aim, but proof the BG was pointing it at him. BG died at the scene. The shooter also captured his unarmed acomplice.

I really can't say anything about someone else and their shooting ability...I used to be a pretty good natural shot but in my old age I seem to have lost a bit of it and not sure why...
Went to the range last Sunday with my son and it was the second time shooting my new S&W M&P .40 and the third time with the PM40...The first time with the M&P I was all over the place mostly way low and left...This time I was determined to do better but started off awful...I know where the front sight was and where the bullets were going and they weren't in the same area code...
My 16 year old son picked it up and was just drilling an 8" target and making smily faces at about 15 yards so I know the gun will shoot...I pulled the target up close to like 5 yards and started again and was able hit and then backed it out to about 10 yards and was hitting there ok...
The PM40 was also low left but I could keep it on a target good enough to do the job...The trigger on the Kahr is so smooth I even accidently did a double tap that I didn't mean to do......The M&P needs an Apex trigger to lighten it up because the stock one is not that good and very very different from the Kahr...I going to get this shooting thing right yet or if not I'm going to take up a simple easy game like golf....:p

I sure wish I could shoot like I could in my twenties. I was on a military team and then qualified for the 68 Olympics, but went to Southeast Asia instead. I took my M&P Compact 40 to the range 3 or 4 weeks ago and couldn't hit a thing. I know from past experience it wasn't the pistol, so it had to be me. I didn't save any targets that day. :(
